I'm here.
Somehow, I am here in one piece. Physically yes, mentally--- well- I guess that is up for debate :giggle4:
I have to apologize upfront, I don't think there is any way that I can catch up with everyone/everything. My little mini-vaca turned out to be anything but. *wink*

The OG plan was just me and my mom, Monday through Wed, leaving right after lunch. I'd drive from PA to my house, then she makes the 45-minute trip to her house. On the way up, she mentioned that my dad was coming up on Thursday, so I texted him to see if he wanted to come up Wed. instead to I could get a quick visit. (Backstory: The last time I was there with the two of them and Scott and Caitlyn, it was an utterly miserable time there. The two of them fought horribly and the following week is when my mom ended up in the hospital for a week the first time. I think I was subconsciously hoping for a small reset there). We'd have a quick lunch together, spend a little time visiting, and start the trip home around 3.30/4 pm.
My dad met us at the house on Wed, right around lunchtime. We were having lunch and he looked great, was answering a question I had asked when he tipped over in his chair, shaking and mumbling "Don't let me fall." My mom and I had run over to make sure he didn't fall until that whatever it was passed. That lasted a minute or so.
He felt a little woozy for another 10-15 minutes and then after that, you'd never know that anything was wrong. He insisted he was fine but there was no way we could leave him on his own. H felt perfect the rest of Wed and overnight. So we had breakfast and headed out. My mom has an appt today with her vascular Dr to check her renal stents and carotid artery so she had to get home. My kids- mainly Cait cuz she can get away with the most with him- have been texting him and my mom and I called, he sounds perfect. We are concerned about him driving home so my mom and I or Gary and I might go back to get him and his car tomorrow. He's stubborn. pfft. And independent. double pfft. Doesn't like to accept help. :banghead:

Hmm, is that where I get it from?

After all that, it was great to be home with the four of us. After dinner, we played a new game that Scott had picked up which was confusing but fun. He said the first time he played it it was confusing to him too but now that he has played a few times he's gotten it down. Can't wait to play again.

W is whining at me, BRB!

Oh my goodness @faerywings, what a trip you had. I'm sure that last night was a relief to be with the kids and just eat and play games and feel normal. How far is the drive for them? That episode with your dad would have been really scary. Aging is not easy. Having parents aging is not easy.

Not a lot going on here. Hoping that Shaun gets to sign up for classes this weekend. Since we were late figuring out that we were moving here, he was late getting admitted. That's done but it has made the registration process kind of crazy. He did meet with an advisor earlier this week and he found out that many of his classes will be online. He is anxious to find a job but I've suggested that he get a school schedule first so that he can then find something to fill in around it.

The cardinals were fun to watch this morning. I have the pair that come multiple times in a day but this morning there was an unpaired male who came. My male had flown away from the feeder and the female was still there eating. Another male came flying over and you should have seen how quickly her mate came swooping in and caused the other male to take off. And this is my life...it sounds a bit pitiful but I actually enjoy it.

Need to go make sure that they have plenty of food left. I'll be back later today.

BTW-- there were some highlights of the trip, we went to the beach one afternoon, I weeded the front area, and I fed a deer crackers by hand. My dad got a picture of that :)

@vickyday Everything is working out with the freezer? Yay! Was your visit with Ilene the first time you saw her, hope she is all better and that your headaches have been better too.

@LSlycord That is so exciting about the furniture getting put together. Are you all settled into your office? Everything with the house seems to be falling into place, I am so happy for you!
Thankfully, we didn't have any flooding where we were. It rained every afternoon/evening but they passed through quickly. Gary said it didn't rain here at all but it did last night. But sheesh, the people in VT are getting slammed again and again. :brokenheart:

@tanteva What happened with your BP? I am going to have to look. Hope you are doing ok now.

Hi Linda!! :waving1
My internet dropped for some reason. Gary did the config/release bit and it still wasn't working. Then he wiggled some wired and it worked LOL!
And I am going to sign off and shut down. It's pitch black out there and thundering hard. The last thing I need it for my computer to get fried.

Hugs!

:thud:

My morning is off to a *great* start. /s
LOL-- it's fine, really. The sky was literally pitch dark and you could see the clouds "boiling." But it's passed and the sky is clearing, my internet/computer is working so it's alllll good!

@Cherylndesigns Alyssa must be a sweetheart, and how wonderful to get some one on one time with her. Do you think she wants to be a chef someday? That would be cool, I'd love to have someone in the family to cook for me.

@BrightEyes It's so good to hear that you are sleeping in and catching up on the "good sleep" since I imagine when you were sick/in pain you weren't getting much healing sleep. Stay cool!

@vickyday I bought ant moats on Amazon. The ones I got were 3/$10, simple red metal ones. They had pretty plastic "gem" ones but I didn't want to spend the $$ since I don't know how long I'm keeping the feeder up. But the plain ones-- they work!
Wild Birds sounds like I store I would like to shop in- and I hate shopping LOL

@tanteva OH MY!!! That is scary high BP! I am glad that the meds are helping bring that down. Sending good ehalth thoughts to you so you will be able to enjoy your vacation! And congrats on the NATO Invite, I bet that you are happy about that. I hope it doesn't take too long to get officially approved.

@bcgal00 I read this book and thought that it might be interesting for your book club: A Day Like This: A Novel
It definitely had me guessing.
Yay for the muffin baking :rotfl: How did the meeting go? Bet you had a nice time.

OK, it's after 9 am and I really need to catch up on some stuff around the house.
I missed you all and it feels great to be back ♥

Ilene and I had a short but good visit yesterday. It had been a month since we had been together. Hard to believe how time flies! She is doing much better. Our friend, Carolyn, has been having some issues. Yesterday the EMS had to come. They told her the episode was caused by premature atrial contractions. I figured it sounded like heart issues. It is. She has an appointment to see the doctor on Monday.

Freezer is getting fuller and fuller! It's a lot bigger than I remember it seeming to be with no lights on the showroom floor! I'm using it for the veggies and misc stuff and keeping the meats in the side by side fridge. I didn't know it but, according to the store tag, this freezer can convert to a fridge! I like that! Especially since our fridge door is loosing it's ability to shut and actually be shut. There have been several times that I've gone into the kitchen to find the door ajar.

The headache continues but it is dull and just a nuisance mainly.

Talk about a turn-around... I woke up at 5:30AM and couldn't go back to sleep!!! UGH!!! Finally got up at 6 AM and opened the house up - It was 76F then and has already reached 80F at 7:30 so had to close it up. Going to be another scorcher - 102-103!!! Just wish our 'normal' monsoon rains would start...that would help cool things off.
Guess what??? I am drinking :coffeedrinker:- 1st cup I have had in 2 months!!! And it tastes so good!!!

@faerywings So sorry to hear about your dad... that must have scary when he almost fell. It sounds like he had a TIA (transient ischemic attack) aka mini stroke. It would be good is someone could go up and drive him home. My hubby and Dad both had TIAs. I know from what you said... he is stubborn but he should be seen by a doctor especially if he has another episode. Glad your internet is working again. Your Gary is so good to get it working for you again. Hope to see the photo of you feeding the deer soon.

@LSlycord Hope Shawn gets the classes he wants and then can find a job that works around the classes. Had to LOL over the male cardinal coming back to run the other male cardinal away from his mate!!!

@vickyday Glad you have got a good start on filling the freezer... but a bummer about the fridge's door not staying closed! Glad you got to visit with your friend Ilene and that she is doing better.

@bcgal00 Wow.. baking muffins (or anything that has to use the oven) is out for me until the heatwave breaks. Bet yours were delicious. Hope you Book Club was fun.

I have been re-reading a lot of my books lately. I remembered reading a Navy Seal book and thought it was one by Susan Brockman but I couldn't find it my collection. Turns out it was "True Devotion" by Dee Henderson. I really enjoyed re-reading yesterday.

Think that DD#3 will be coming down this weekend. I will get her to help me do a couple of things while she is here.... change the sheets on my bed, climb on the ladder to change the master bedroom ceiling fan to a higher setting, etc. The DDs were very strict on things I shouldn't be doing without help and I have been good about not doing them.

:floorlaugh: This year is NOT THE USUAL JULY/AUG!!! Here in Rio Rancho/Albuquerque the NORMAL temps in those months is an average high of 91°F and low of 65°F. The high temps we are having are breaking all the records.

Good morning ladies. I will be heading out in a minute to the dog park, I'm hosting a pool/BBQ/game night event tomorrow. Just a small group, probably about 6-8 of us. We'll hang out in the pool/back yard for a few hours and then have a BBQ at 5, followed by game night. One of the gals is bring dominos so we can play mexican train (new to me). I will host another one in August, as 4 of my friends are away on holidays this time. I'll get groceries later, I think I'll make deviled eggs and get hotdog buns. I'll grab some snacks and crackers. We still have cream cheese/chili sauce spread left over from the book club mtg. The others will bring some side dishes and hotdogs. Should be fun.

I watched the two hour finale to Blacklist last night and enjoyed it. Sad it ended though.

@faerywings Sorry to hear your get-away wasn't as relaxing as you had hoped. Hope your dad is ok. That is scary.

@LSlycord I spend lots of time watching the birds, it becomes like a soap opera LOL. Watching how they interact.

I have to cut this short, Remi is antsy, she needs to get to the park. Gotta go. HAGD everyone.

Good morning all,

I finished off a LO for Sweet Doll this morning and got it posted and have one to do for Joyful Hearts today, also.

Did it ever rain here last night - almost all night and it kept waking me up. We have a metal roof (I know I've told you) but the rain sounds even louder on that. It really blew, too - every time I'd get to sleep, a big clap of thunder would wake me up. It's pretty nice by now, but it's been cloudy and trying to rain again until about thirty minutes ago. At least I don't have to water my flowers and plants today. I NEED to go pull weeds while the ground is soft - hope to get to that later today.

Chris @faerywings what a scare your dad must have given all of you. I'm glad he pulled out of it - was it vertigo? I thought I saw that on one of your quick posts. That's the worst - I've had a couple of them and you feel like you're losing control. Mine were caused by inner ear infections. One morning, I got out of bed and literally ran into the wall. I had been asleep and was having a vertigo attack and didn't know it until I hit the wall. We were talking yesterday about trying to get all the deer around here to be friendlier. They're all over the place; we saw two of them in our backyard - from Adrienne's house and Chuck saw three of them up on their back deck looking in the windows. The other day when I was watering in the back, Chuck said there was a doe just standing by the little shed watching me. I didn't even see her. He tried to take a picture, but taking through the screen isn't effective and if he raised the blind to take it through the glass, it would have scared her. We see them every night now and a herd hangs out right by our house. You can always see their eyes reflecting.

Kay @BrightEyes yay for getting to drink coffee again! I don't drink it anymore - never thought I could give it up, but it just wasn't agreeing with me. I've switched to tea and it's much easier on my tummy. I drink it every once in awhile, like those cold coffee drinks that we get at Starbucks, but the last one I had didn't agree with me at all. Alyssa doesn't know what she wants to do. She has tossed around the idea of going to culinary school, also into the military and also the FBI. There's a school not too far from here that trains people in all kinds of forensic sciences and then helps them with the pathway to the FBI. She's just going to be a senior, so she has time to decide. She just loves to cook and prep food - whenever we have a party, she fixes most of the food and fixes really unusual things.

Rae @bcgal00 have fun at your pool/bbq/game party - sounds like fun.

Vicky @vickyday glad Ilene is feeling better and you got together. Hurray for the new freezer.

Hugs to all and HAGD.

I took time this morning to look through some boxes of my Aunt Mary's that were filled with lots of photos. This is Aunt Mary & Uncle Jim who took me traveling with them when I was just a kid and gave me my love of traveling and exploring. There are a lot of photos of when they lived in Kabul, Afghanistan in 1959 and 1960. There are also photos of going over the Khyber Pass from Kabul to Peshawar, Pakistan plus photos taken at The Golden Temple located in the city of Amritsar, Punjab, India. Also found a photo of my mother's father who died before she was born that I have never seen before!! Talk about treasure chest/boxes of family memories!!!! Guess I will be doing a lot of photo scanning before I can work with them...
