Daily Ooos: August 16-17: Weekend Edition

It took me three tries to get the date correct up there ^.
Three. Sheesh!
(It is correct now, right??)
First, I typed in August 17-18. Then I changed it to 16-18. Third time was the charm, 16-17. LOL

I had a great day yesterday! I loved seeing the kids again and they were so dang excited to be back, too. They were having a blast in the water-- many of the kids went all the way in. Of course. :p
We found some cool things and since they were so engaged, I stretched that activity out a little longer and scrapped the game after lunch. Making the frog egg slime was a hit! A very messy-sticky-hard-to-clean-up-but-100%-fun-hit.

I also made my goal for this summer. dance4
I had challenged myself to hold a millipede. I was always scared of them as a kid and it took me a while to get over the fear when Scott would show them to me when he was little. Now, he has one as a "pet"-- he has a vivarium set-up with an entire ecosystem. In the past, I have touched it and have touched the ones we find in the woods. But could never bring myself to hold one, nope. In the spring, I told myself that I was going to do it by the end of this summer, so when one of the kids found one yesterday, I was ready! I kind of made a big deal out of it, to show them that you can overcome your fears. I told the group that I had made this goal and why. Then asked the boy who found it if I could take a turn. My coworker got a picture and I was sooo excited when she sent it to me.
What made me very proud was that after I did that, almost every kid wanted to hold it. I was able to show them how to carefully let it crawl on their hand and how to gently put it back on the ground when we we done observing. Hopefully, they can take that experience with them.

After we were done with the field trip, we had a mini-meeting about some directions that we want Weis to work towards- the big one is that we want to host a nature retreat. Next week we will have a more structured meeting about it and I am thrilled to be part of it.

Things should be quiet this weekend here.
It will be nice to have time to relax. (Says the lady who has a difficult time relaxing even when she has time LOL)

Big hugs to you all and have a fun weekend!

@vickyday Believe me, if I can get a picture of the bear, I will share it.
Have a safe trip home today. It has to be bittersweet to have such a short time together.

@BrightEyes I need to post my week 3 AJ pages too, and then I have to work on my week 4 challenge.
Glad that you are having improvement with your shoulder/foot, hope that it continues!

@Terri M Even as a dog lover, my son says one of the most frustrating things as a park ranger is dealing with off-leash dogs. The owners always say, "But s/he is friendly." But it's not the point-- dogs can be friendly until they are not. Or the dog might meet up with another dog that is most definitely *not* friendly. Not to say anything of hikers who might be cautious around dogs.
I hope that DD's family vacation photos give you lots of scrap inspiration!

@mimes1 oooh have fun on the zippy-fast computer! Thanks for the suet suggestion, that is what we did, grabbed a block from Tractor Supply. I am always LMBO at the "poses" the red-bellies make when they eat.

xoxo

I would love to be one of your students, my friend! But to actually hold a millipede... that would take some work!

Yes the time spent with family always goes by so quickly! We left a little after 8.

Good morning,
Headed home after a few short days with the family, seemingly. Isn't that the way it always is when with your family? The time passes much too quickly! Thankful for our time together even though short.
Have a great day!

Good Morning Lovely Ladies

@AK_Tracy Do you have any "before" photos of the glacier?
I do not. It was my first time to visit this glacier. Hubs had been there but it was way back in the good ol days of film cameras LOL so no photos. But between the two of us we took 196 photos that day.
What made me very proud was that after I did that, almost every kid wanted to hold it. I was able to show them how to carefully let it crawl on their hand and how to gently put it back on the ground when we we done observing.
This is awesome. What a fun goal and to show the kids you can overcome your fears. This will resonate with them like nothing else.

Long day yesterday helping some friends, never made it online. email box was packed. Good things its digital cause otherwise I would never have gotten the mailbox open :giggle4: Weather is turning to fall. Cooling off at night but so far the window is still open at night. Wont be long before we have to add a blanket or shut the window. Not much to report. Have a wonderful weekend.

Guess who??? Yup its really me, back from never land LOL. Just wanted to pop in and say how very much I am missing all of you here at the O!! Things have been very good here and we are busy keeping up with the yardwork and planning our winter vacation, probably to Mexico for a few weeks. Then the big trip planning will start for next spring to Croatia and Italy. Family has kept up busy also, we had such a wonderful time with the kids while they were home! My brother's service went very well over 250 people attended and I was the first speaker, followed by my DH. and then many others who wanted to speak about my brother Tom. I was surprised that I did not break down or fall apart during my tribute, but I am sure everyone heard my knees knocking behind the podium! It has been a good break for me and I think that probably sometime this winter I will see if I can perhaps come back to the O and all of you wonderful people! I know that I will miss the creative time. My DH has transitioned nicely into retirement and keeps himself busy puttering away at this and that. We are fully involved with doing the Cowichan Valley Wine tour this month, DH got tickets for part of his retirement gift. We also had a lovely time at Heather's out East and helped them out with many chores that needed doing around their place. The weather was hot and humid, but that's par for the course out there. We have been very warm here also with so many wildfires, but the last few days have been cool and wet, such a welcome relief. Anyway I will pop in again one day and I do stop by once in awhile to see how things are doing here. I haven't forgotten all of you and hope that each and everyone of you are doing well and keeping busy! :grouphugyay:

I have got to spend a couple hours reading my book for Wednesday's book group meeting. It's quite a slog, as it's translated from Norwegian or something, and the structure of the sentences is awkward (I think that's on purpose, echoing the original) and the names are so confusing to me. Not quite as bad as The Brothers Karamazov but not easy.

It seems like it's been a dull week, because of David being ill we haven't gone out to do anything. I had some trail work and biked a couple times by myself. But eating dinner in separate rooms really cuts down on conversation. On the other hand, I was able to binge the entire third season of The Gilded Age in one week.

I have laundry started, and my Kindle sitting next to a glass of iced tea, so I'm back to my reading. Or it could be napping.

@taxed4ever Glad to hear retirement is going so wonderfully for you both!

I'm going to enjoy some time at home over the wkend, no big plans so I can focus on all the little things I want to do. We will be booking a hotel for a few nights next month so we can all drive down to Waterton Alberta (we'll bring the dogs). I'll check with my photog friend to see if she wants to come with us. I don't want to leave the hotel booking too long b/c Sept is a busy month there b/c of the larch trees turning yellow and all the wildlife (elk rutting season, bears stocking up on berries before they hibernate). The scenery should be gorgeous.

I am enjoying the cooler temps the last few days, I prefer the 70's more than the 80's but it will warm up again after the wkend. The dogs like the cooler days too, they have been more playful out in the yard.

@faerywings Good for you, holding the millipede (not me yuck). I hate bugs.
@AK_Tracy Us too, the weather changes quickly to fall here and winter can start by end of Sept. I can already feel it in the early morning, the dew on the grass and the crisp cool air. By 10ish it starts to warm back up to the 70/80s so daytime is still quite warm.

Time to hop in the shower and get out with Remi.

By 10ish it starts to warm back up to the 70/80s so daytime is still quite warm.
Yep, by 10 its warmed back up but not that warm :giggle4: We might hit 65°F now but not much over that if at all. But the coolness at night is nice for sleeping.

HelloO O-fam!

I am halfway through the weekend and have pretty much nothing to show for it. I said I was going to relax, right?
Nope--I said:
It will be nice to have time to relax. (Says the lady who has a difficult time relaxing even when she has time LOL)
I had time to relax.... I just didn't.:rotfl:
I am not even sure *what* I did other than walk around saying that I should do *something.*
It looks like the 2nd session of camp isn't going to happen, since only the two kids have signed up. It is just as well since it is Tom's car's turn in the shop. He will be driving Cait's car and she'll need mine.
My mom had been saying for months that my dad was thinking about giving up a lot of driving and was giving his car to me. The rough estimate for the timeline was "end of the summer." Now that it is the end of the summer... can you guess what isn't being discussed? :p
I can't blame him at all and for his and my mom's sanity, they need escape hatches with each other. Gary has been talking about getting a second car now that I am working a lot more. I just have no idea how we will pay for it.

My plans for today are kind of similar to yesterday, except I have to prep my meals and grocery order. But I can't place the order until I know when I have a car to pick it up.

Yikes, I am tired-- I woke up a little after 4, couldn't get back to sleep, and got up for coffee at 5.
I guess that means I have extra time to relax today.
*snickers and snort-laughs*

HAGD!

I would love to be one of your students, my friend! But to actually hold a millipede... that would take some work!
If I can do it, you could too-- baby steps! It took me years to get over this. Last year I got close, by touching them when they were on the ground, but it took me almost an entire year to reach my goal. :)
(Although I recognize/respect that this is not for everyone!)
Good morning,
Headed home after a few short days with the family, seemingly. Isn't that the way it always is when with your family? The time passes much too quickly! Thankful for our time together even though short.
Have a great day!
It's a good sign when the time flies when you are with your family. It would be much harder if it dragged and everyone was looking forward to going home.
I do not. It was my first time to visit this glacier. Hubs had been there but it was way back in the good ol days of film cameras LOL so no photos. But between the two of us we took 196 photos that day.
Isn't that the truth! Trying to line up the perfect shot and then waiting until the roll of film is done and developed before you can see them.
Weather is turning to fall. Cooling off at night but so far the window is still open at night. Wont be long before we have to add a blanket or shut the window.
I want to say that I am sorry about this, but I know this is how it is supposed to be for you. So enjoy the cooler temps and cozy blankets!
Guess who??? Yup its really me, back from never land LOL.
HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have missed you! I was seeing some photos and pages of yours on my FB feed and then nothing. I never can tell if it is the *%@ algorithm or that you weren't posting. It sounds like you and your Gary are having a fantastic summer with the family. I mean, how could you not with the Cowichan Wine Valley tour? :drinkbuddies:
Your brother's service must have been difficult and heartwarming to experience. How many lives he had touched is a true testament to the kind of person he was.
As much as we all miss you here, I am very happy to here that the break is doing you good. Of course, I am also going to be counting the days until winter when you start scrapping and posting here again. :waiting: :multitasking:
Big hugs to you and your family!

I have got to spend a couple hours reading my book for Wednesday's book group meeting. It's quite a slog, as it's translated from Norwegian or something, and the structure of the sentences is awkward (I think that's on purpose, echoing the original)
What is the book you are reading? Is the storyline good enough to keep your interest despite the sentence structure?
I hope that you and David can spend time together soon.

This sounds amazing!! Remind me when you go so I can stalk your FB photos.

Yep, by 10 its warmed back up but not that warm :giggle4: We might hit 65°F now but not much over that if at all. But the coolness at night is nice for sleeping.
That's so cold!!! :brrr:

Wow Lady-O's I have missed so much.
We were in the Shenandoah Valley and there was NO service. It was fun and relaxing but maybe a little too long with no service. I did sort through photos and even did all the laundry. Now we are TN but going to NC today for a few days. So out of boredom on our 4+ hour drive yesterday I started a list of the museums and points of interest we have been to--- well it used up 3 pages with 2 columns on each. That does not include living in Germany, cruises, dive vacations or the US National parks. I guess I need to make scrapbook pages with the lists. I will wait till I'm home. We have a 3 hour drive today so I guess I will make another list. It was fun talking and remembering all the places...oh caves that could be another list.
The last campground we were at had domestic rabbits all over, there must have been 40 or so OMG they were so much fun. I gave them a bowl of water so they loved that. they go under the camper in the shade a lay down to sleep. I fed them lettuce which they loved.
In PA we stayed at Pine Grove Furnace SP where there was an iron ore furnace we have one in CT so it wasn't totally new to us but I still love to see what they did in those days.,We went into Staunton VA to a fabulous museum-Frontier Culture Museum we really enjoyed it. We spent hours there and I could have stayed longer. It really helps you appreciate how our country was started with the brave people from Europe.
Last night we went to dinner at Riverside Seafood Company here in Kingsport TN. Internet said reservations suggested...well good thing we made some there were people waiting...Food was excellent, window by the river and waitress was fast &efficient. I highly recommend it if you like seafood. I had cold water sea scallops cooked to perfection, Jay had Jambalaya which was excellent and w both brought home leftovers. When we came out the wait line was out the door and across the porch. then after we went to find another roadside attraction one of the Muffler Man, this one is holding a hamburger. This is the 3rd one we have found. People we met in Dodge city told us about them. What are Muffler Men if you want to see what they are about.

DD just texted they will be home from Greece around midnight tonight. They had a fabulous trip.
Grandson Tyler's finger is ok, has to work left handed but is doing it ok and even mowed the lawn last night. I miss the activity of being at our son's but it is nice to have a slower pace now.

I need to start getting ready to leave so I will check back later when we are settled in our next site.
I hope everyone has a wonderful rest of the weekend.

Morning, all. Some how I missed posting here yesterday.
Guess who??? Yup its really me, back from never land LOL. Just wanted to pop in and say how very much I am missing all of you here at the O!! Things have been very good here and we are busy keeping up with the yardwork and planning our winter vacation,
dance3 :wavinghello: So glad to see you popping in here.... You have been missed so much!!! :hug3:

Almost afraid to say it above a whisper... "shoulder and foot are improving"....Been staying in the recliner with the heated rice bag on shoulder and keeping an ace bandage wrap on the foot. Managed without pain meds last night and not limping when walking around this morning!!! Will take it easy for another day or two...

Uploaded the FWP LO this morning. Now I need to check on my challenge. Then get dressed and get more :coffeedrinker:HAGD

Good Morning O Fam!
Happy Sunday. The sun is out. The trees are not moving! Its gonna be a fantastic day!

Yikes, I am tired-- I woke up a little after 4, couldn't get back to sleep, and got up for coffee at 5.
I guess that means I have extra time to relax today.
*snickers and snort-laughs*
This cracked me up!!!!
I totally get and have done the wander around, muttering so much to do, need to do and yet suppose to be relaxing. Just a girl thing I think. When hubs sits to do nothing he does nothing. I dont get it.
one of the Muffler Man, this one is holding a hamburger. This is the 3rd one we have found. People we met in Dodge city told us about them. What are Muffler Men if you want to see what they are about.
This is super cool!!!! How fun to track them down and see them. I remember a burger joint having one like that. Not sure what happened to him. He probably froze and broke :giggle4:
We were in the Shenandoah Valley and there was NO service.
I love having the forced break sometimes. No service can be so nice. But yeah, too many days and you feel overwhelmed coming back and getting caught up. Emails alone seem to stack up like mad.

Dogs are bugging me. They are so demanding when it comes to breakfast. Dont they know its early! Just cause I showered already doesn't mean they eat! :floorlaugh: Not much happening here. will attempt to catch up on personal scrapping. Have a wonderful day!

Good morning ladies. I should never have tried to organize my day yesterday b/c it all went to hell! I went out into the garage to get something and saw a dark stain on the floor that looked like a big oil spill or something. Remi ran over and started lapping it up. I yelled and thankfully she immediately backed up and left it alone. It was chocolate. When we went to Costco the day before I had put the big huge box of icecream sandwiches on the top edge of the garage freezer and then forgot about it. the whole thing melted and that's what started leaking all down the freezer, pooling and spreading across the floor and it even splattered into my rubber boots that were sitting next to the freezer. What a mess, trying to scrub it and remove the congealed chocolate. It took a lot of scrubbing and bending on my part so of course I really hurt my back. I ended up in bed for the rest of the day and night. Haven't had that much pain in quite awhile. I think the BP is really ramping up again too, constant headache for 2 days, blurred vision and fogginess. I'll get it checked again today and might have to start meds this week although I have been putting that off for the last month or so. I really don't want medication but I also don't want a stroke either so...

I think tonight will be a pizza night. I really need some comfort food :)

Remi is whining at me, I need to get her out into the yard, take a nice hot shower and then maybe I can make it over to the pharmacy to check the BP and see if there is a headache remedy better than tylenol to get me thru the next few days. Ugh. Not the wkend I was hoping to have, that's for sure.

My friend walks at a park with another friend, the most annoying part being unleashed dogs that the owners seem to want you to pet. She says when owners say, "He's friendly" her friend says, "But I'm not".... :rotfl:
