It took me three tries to get the date correct up there ^.
Three. Sheesh!
(It is correct now, right??)
First, I typed in August 17-18. Then I changed it to 16-18. Third time was the charm, 16-17. LOL
I had a great day yesterday! I loved seeing the kids again and they were so dang excited to be back, too. They were having a blast in the water-- many of the kids went all the way in. Of course.
We found some cool things and since they were so engaged, I stretched that activity out a little longer and scrapped the game after lunch. Making the frog egg slime was a hit! A very messy-sticky-hard-to-clean-up-but-100%-fun-hit.
I also made my goal for this summer.
I had challenged myself to hold a millipede. I was always scared of them as a kid and it took me a while to get over the fear when Scott would show them to me when he was little. Now, he has one as a "pet"-- he has a vivarium set-up with an entire ecosystem. In the past, I have touched it and have touched the ones we find in the woods. But could never bring myself to hold one, nope. In the spring, I told myself that I was going to do it by the end of this summer, so when one of the kids found one yesterday, I was ready! I kind of made a big deal out of it, to show them that you can overcome your fears. I told the group that I had made this goal and why. Then asked the boy who found it if I could take a turn. My coworker got a picture and I was sooo excited when she sent it to me.
What made me very proud was that after I did that, almost every kid wanted to hold it. I was able to show them how to carefully let it crawl on their hand and how to gently put it back on the ground when we we done observing. Hopefully, they can take that experience with them.
After we were done with the field trip, we had a mini-meeting about some directions that we want Weis to work towards- the big one is that we want to host a nature retreat. Next week we will have a more structured meeting about it and I am thrilled to be part of it.
Things should be quiet this weekend here.
It will be nice to have time to relax. (Says the lady who has a difficult time relaxing even when she has time LOL)
Big hugs to you all and have a fun weekend!
