*looks out my window and cries* It is so cold and ready to rain. I hope that I can still do beautification day. We are supposed to be meeting att 10 for b-fast,

Oh uh-- kitty is here saying good morning, and now trying to drink my :tea:

Bad kitty!!

Have a fabulous day!!

Chris- long johns- it cooled off and winded and rained here last night too- but the bright side- the grass is a whole more beautiful shade of green! Yeah spring- poking through- my pear trees are getting ready to bloom and all my roses made it through the winter despite not being covered- now the azaleas- not so much.

Well 30 min to take off and I am sitting in my jammies and have not had breakfast- catch you all later!

good morning ladies!

Chris, I've given up on warm weather in NJ - this has to be some sick joke from mother nature at this point..

Laurie - you aren't conferencing this weekend? It must be so nice to look out and see the beautiful flowers - Mine are all close to the house that when I look out I can't see them. Hopefully I'll be looking out at sparkly pool water soon but the way this weather's been going who knows!

Hope everyone has a safe and happy weekend!

Good morning. Hopefully no one was hit by that horrible weather in the south. Clara keep safe today!

Clara: Photographers charge so much. I was stunned. I want to become one, but I want to be affordable for the average family. If I set my rates low though I will have every other photographer in the area breathing down my neck. As for using her for free, see if she can do a double shoot with another photographer. Or if you want to use solely her, make sure you check out her current portfolio and find out how long she has been shooting. I was asked to do a wedding this fall for free. I'm not sure if I want to agree. It is a lot of work and time. I will do a family for free, but a big event I believe I would charge, or like I said be a second shooter to get experience. I wouldn't want to mess up someone's big day!

Monterey: I've been there! Love it! DH LIVED there for several years when he was younger. Lucky duck. His mom just moved away from there about 5 years ago. I say who would want to move? But she moved to Wilmington NC. So another beautiful beach town. Much more Hippiish to her liking!

I am off to try to make these hats as pretty as I can, with the help of my DD. She is so excited to start. my youngest ds wants to make a mini top hat. We'll see how that turns out!

Oh and sad news. I am no longer getting a horse this year. Or at least not right now. Our septic has backed up so bad that all her money is going to fix the septic. Hopefully the offer to lease the horse I currently ride is still open.

Good morning! Well just barely morning here. So, Ethan was also supposed to do some beautification but because of the storm warning it got cancelled. We didn't get the message so he went out and did it on his own. He rocks!! It isn't storming at this point but I can sure hear the winds blowing. We were going to go to an air show this weekend but with the storm coming I don't see that happening. I was excited for something to do this weekend.

I have had a headache for a couple of days now. I am about to resort to painkillers, which I never do, but it hurts and I want it to stop. I'm just not sure how functional I will be if I take one. We are also battling a dishwasher that doesn't want to work today. That is very stressful. My kitchen is destroyed because I hate handwashing and am holding out for the dishwasher to work. Derek is at this moment sucking the water out so that he can check it out. I really don't want to deal with the property management if I can help it. They are nice but I hate being troublesome.

Chris - I hope that the weather help out for you today. I know how much you enjoy Beautification Day. Sending good weather thoughts to you.

Laurie - I'm glad you found happy things about the rain. Enjoy your day.

Suzy - I hope you have a great weekend too. As beautiful as Washington is the rain and gloomy weather gets a bit old by this time of year. That is the only bonus of NC right now. I get to wear flip flops all the time.

Katrina - The lady offered to do a free shoot to build her portfolio. I know of a lot of photographers that do that. It is hard to get paid experience if you don't do that. People want someone who has experience. Although after talking with Meg and Elisa processing is almost as important as the photos themselves. I found someone inexpensive but the pictures were not good. I say do the wedding you were asked to do for free. Although them asking to have you do it for free is a bit rude I think. The free photographer offered to do it for free. I by no means asked her to do it for free. I'm still waiting to see her wedding photos that she is doing this weekend. I've see her landscape stuff which is nice, but we'll see. We found someone who is just starting out and charging significantly less than many others. My brother spent thousands on his wedding photographer, or rather his MIL did...and they were gorgeous, but man, that is a LOT of money. They had a $40K wedding though. We'll see how it goes.

Alrighty, I am out of here. Have a great day everyone. I'm sure I'll be back again.

Good Afternoon- nope- no conference this weekend- catch up and basement work- once finished, we will have a place to practice dance or just dance for fun- the old game area of the basement that had a pool table and bar in it. Since the housing market dropped and we bought high when we moved here, we will be here a while so might just as well enjoy it! This afternoon- the rain came back so laundry, cookies for ds bday visit tomorrow, and paperwork!

Holy weather!!! We had a tornado warning here. It was pretty crazy. The kids were silly and nervous and did not entertain themselves well without power. It was crazy. Now Derek is bored but idealess.

Chris -- I hope you ended up having a nice day aside from the rain!

Suzy -- How are you doing?? I hope you're also having a great weekend!

Katrina -- it sounds like to me that you need to give up the whole horse thing for a year or more to get on better financial footing and get the experience you need to become a professional photographer. So build up an emergency fund for all of these things that keep happening (furnace, septic, etc) and decide - horse, or photography? Right now you're still on a very basic camera -- and you're going to need a better camera and much more equipment to even do basic family portraits (IE reflectors, external flash, prime lenses, etc.) So it comes down to what do you want more? Do you really want to dedicate your time & money to a potential career, or to a weekend hobby? I'd also ask a local photog if you can be their unpaid backup for large events... just for experience. You'll be surprised how many experienced professionals will allow that. Also, I'd take several classes and workshops. You can't learn everything online, and learning with others really helps a whole lot.

Clara -- aw that sucks about the dishwasher!!! I hate handwashing too. Is it just not cleaning things well? Did you know that they don't allow phosphorus in dish detergents anymore... so things aren't getting cleaned as well as they were nine months ago. I use the finish packs with the red ball, because I guess the red ball still has phosphorus on some kind of technicality.

Laurie -- that's awesome that you're getting a great new use out of your basement! I guess the flood was sort of a blessing??? Everyone is in that position right now... today I actually had my first appraisal since 2009 where a home had gained significant equity. Even then, that doesn't mean at all that we're recovered... it just happened to be the neighborhood.

Clara -- I'm so glad you guys are OK!!!!

Well ladies... tonight I had the first really bad stomach attack I've had in months! Ugh, I hope it isn't a sign of more to come :( I'm still way too far behind and super exhausted. I need a vacation!!!! My EHD also got misplaced, and I haven't found it, so that means I couldn't work at all today.

I'm excited... tomorrow is prep-day, I need to make my packing list tonight and figure out what we need to get at target. I know the weather is going to be pretty lousy, but I'm just glad to get away with my hubby! We were going to have a picnic on Monday after whale watching... but it's probably going to rain, so I think we'll just have to have Pizza My Heart instead! Wooo!!!

When we get back -- Jeff's cousin from Texas will be here!!!!!! She's the one expecting twins. I have a ton of coupons and steals for baby stuff... so I'm going to give her gifts now, since Texas is pretty far away to attend baby showers.

Wow!! I m feeling unbelievably blessed today. The storm here where I live was brutal. It didn't get horrible at my house. We had a short spurt of hail and we lost power and cell phone service for a little bit and we still have no cable. I wish we would have had cable now. My husband got antsy and wanted to go somewhere and do something so we drove around and ended up at Wendy's. The line was moving really slow due to some major short staffing and lots of people called in apparently. It was then that I started hearing about how bad the storm actually was. It seems that about 10-12 tornados actually touched down. Fayetteville had some major destruction within a couple of miles from my house. I think it hit on post, but am not 100% sure about that. I know it hit some roads right off post and demolished hundreds of homes. The lady I talked to in the line at Wendy's had come to this area to rescue her friend from inside her house and saw an apartment complex that was 16 buildings but is now 2. Another area a few miles from there and about a mile from where my friend Dave was at was also demolished. And that is right near me. Many other tows, including Raleigh were also hit. I got ahold of Andrea (mrsaboyer) and she was in Raleigh at the Natural History museum. They had to spend an hour in the basement of the museum. Her children handled it really well. Everyone I wanted to get ahold of I did and I am so thankful. Tomorrow we will go to church and see if they have anything going on to help. Derek is just waiting for a call to go into the hospital to offer any help they need. We only have 1 large hospital in the area plus the military hospital, which isn't a huge military hospital. I have never been anywhere that tornados have effected before and I am feeling just sick over the whole thing. Me and my kids prayed together and I held them close and thanked God that we were fortunate to not be affected by this. I want to help people who need it but don't know what to do. I think about it being cold and dark outside right now and there is no power in the affected areas and people I am sure are trapped in places and it breaks my heart that I am sitting here about ready to go to bed in my own bedroom. I'm heartbroken over this.

Okay, I think I got everything out.

Oh wow, everyone has such sad and scary stories with the weather. Are tornadoes that common in your area Clara? I always think of them in the Midwest, I guess. But I am glad that you and Andrea are safe. I wish i could come down and just hug you all so tight and help the people who need it.
If anyone in your church is looking for clothing donations or anything like that, let me know. I have a few bags of stuff I was going to donate to the school for their clothing drive, but I can send it down to you if anyone needs it.

meg- oh no, hope that stomach ache was a one time only deal. Were you ever able to find you ehd? Hope that you have a wonderful, romantic and relaxing trip- enjoy every minute!!!

Laurie- That is a great idea to do for your basement. Good for you to be able to make the best of the housing mkt and enjoy what you have. Happy b-day to your ds!

Clara- good for Ethan! That little man makes me proud. If we lived closer we would do Beaut. Day with you. I told Scott yesterday how I respect him very much b/c he wants very much to give his time and effort to making the world a better place. Sounds like your guy is the same.
How is your head today? Is it allergies?

Katrina- so sorry to hear about your septic and not getting the horse. We have problems with our leech field and b/c of all of the abx we are are on, it just makes it that much worse. Then add the cost of a new septic into the equation and its just horrific!

Suzy- i have decided that NJ and Spring are just not going to happen, this weather is brutal!!! when we were down in Ringoes (past Flemington) last week, I was amazed at how much more green it was. Up here, everything is still brown and muddy. I have a few daffodils that have popped up, but they are still closed up tight. What did NJ ever do to Mother nature, huh?? LOL

So I shouldn't complain about the weather at all in light of what everyone esle was going through yesterday. But dang! It was freezing!! Ii had on 2 pairs of socks, 2 thermals, the t-shirts we are given and a sweatshirt. I was wearing one of my terrorist hats too, plus the work gloves and I was numb ;)
We worked for about 2 hours, and found some good stuff. Scott found an old metal shopping cart. I dragged that sucker all the way to the picnic, and as soon as I got there, they were calling the winners.
So bummed!

If you find anything cool, you bring it to the picnic and they have winners for Most Valuable, Oldest and Most Unique. That cart would have one most unique in a heartbeat. The "winners" were two icky pairs of underwear. That is not unique. A shopping cart- now that is unique dammit! One year i won $35 to the local garden center. This year that had these wooden collectible bears worth $200- I was thinking ebay!!
Oh well, what can you do?

By the time we got to the picnic, it was just pouring rain and cold which was why they called the winners so early. On the way home, there was a dog- golden, I think, just running up and down the main road, which was on a really bad curve. So what does the kooky faery do? I pull over, grab my spare leash that i keep in the car, leave Cait and two of her friends in the car and Scott and I run up and down trying to find the dog. She was going to get hit for sure if she stayed on the road. People drive super fast plus its all curves and hills. And the poor baby was terrified- just frantic. We weren't able to catch up with her and we think (hope) she went over into the woods. Scott and I were soaked to the skin, and it was around 40*... but we had to do it. Wish we could have gotten her ok.

The funniest part tho- Apparently, while Scott and I were gone, a lady drove past my car parked but running on the side of the road, flashers on, sees the 3 kids in the back and no one in the front, slows down, peers in the car and then zooms off. What was that about? what if the kids needed help? weird people in this world!

Today is the last day of "spring" (ha!!) break, and I have to catchup on life. blergh!
Hope everyone has a great day!

xoxo

Thanks for the advice. I am taking classes in the fall for photography.

However horses are not just a weekend hobby. I plan to make them my career one day. I am trying to get into riding seriously 4-5 days a week, and showing. I ride dressage and my goal is to one day make it to the Grand Prix. Ever since I was little I have wanted to run my own stable. I want to give riding lessons. But I need experience and knowledge first. So I will be leasing a horse this year until we get everything squared away. I am currently training to become a therapeutic riding instructor which will become a part time career. I have already done 3 lessons! It is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done.

As for the wedding photography. Basically what I meant is that I know I am not good enough to do a wedding so would rather second shoot with someone. If i ever do a full wedding by myself it will be when I consider myself to be professional quality and will then charge for it. But I can't see charging thousands! Right now I am doing freebies just to get experience. I am also on the lookout for local workshops as well. I am a member of 2 local photography groups who have been giving me tons of good advice.

Hope everyone is ok after those storms. I am off to church and then a long fun filled day with youth group.

Chris - what do you mean you have problems with "your leech field"? You have a leech field? I'm not exactly sure what that is but am assuming it's like a fish hatchery for leeches where you grow them on purpose?? Uh, afraid to ask next question but will anyway bc you are a Jersey girl and you can take it - do you grow leeches and then put them on you to suck out bad Lyme's toxins?

I only know about leeches from Fear Factor and of course they're used to terrorize people..

Oh I bet she meant leach field- where septic water goes to dissipate before going into the ground- a type of non municipal septic system! We have wind here today, but ds came home, took a fridge, helped move furniture and heavy stuff (treadmill now in the cement room as is tv- one step closer to remodel weekends. Now too windy for hot tub so I will turn it back down. Indoor barbecue chicken tonight.

Glad everyone is safe.

Morning "O" family! My goodness I am away for one day and look at what happens to everyone!!

Chris - You crazy lady chasing someone else's dog all over in the pouring rain!! At least you probably saved him from being hit by a car, hope he is ok! You are such a kind hearted animal lover!!

Clara - I am so glad that you and your family are alright, how terrifying for you all, my heart goes out to all those affected by that terrible weather! Sounds like it was way to close to home for you! Perhaps all you can do is volunteer to help out in any way you can, I am sure that your church will be informed as to where the help is needed most of all.

Meg - Hope you find your EHD!! Sorry your tummy is acting up, lets hope its just a one time thing! Have a wonderful time with your hubby!! Hope you get to see lots of whales!

Laurie - So glad that you are going to get lots of use out of your basement now!

Katrina - So happy to hear that you are liking the therapeutic riding !! My daughter just adored all of her teachers at riding therapy!! It was the best thing that we ever did for her. She no longer goes, but she often still talks about her wonderful teachers and her wonderful patient horses. A truly rewarding experience for both her and her teachers!!

Suzy - Hope your weekend has been great!! I think the leech field that Chris is talking about has something to do with septic. I think that they are used to remove contaminates that emerge from septic tanks.

Nana Linda - Where are you?? We miss you!! Hope everything is ok with you!

Well I hope to get one of the challenges done today sometime, then I have to get ready for the week , I am pretty much full time all week long ugh. Two more people left the store and now I have to cover some shifts until they get the new people hired, hopefully just this week of full time. I have made an appointment for my evaluation that should have been done months ago, so will tell them I don't want all this extra time and I want a raise!!! Wish me luck!!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone, its sunny here today so I have to get out for a walk for sure!

Hey girlies!! what a jam-packed-full-of-info thread!!!

We have had a wonderful "Take it easy" weekend. My mom came by yesterday and asked, what did we do to warrant a take it easy day??? I said, I got up at 6:30am and took my PACKED excursion (yep, completely...the back seat was out and the middle seats were down!!)filled to the gills with garage sale stuff to my friend's house so that our church youth group could have a garage sale. Then I had to unpack all of the clothes bags and boxes of stuff, including (and I"m not kidding here!) a dishwasher box FILLEd with toys!!!*whew* I left at about 8am after unpacking everything. I told the people running it I didn't want anything back that I left there...just sell it or give it away to goodwill if it didn't sell. Our darling friend (lead guitarist in our band and best man in our wedding) told Mr Gorgeous that they tried to sell Quentin because I left him there, too!!! Luckily he wouldn't sell, and Mr Gorgeous got there before they took everything to goodwill!! teeheeee!!! anyway, the garage sale was a success... the youth group made around 400$ and that's without any big big items!! :)

...and when Quentin got home, I gave him the day off of his chores since he stayed until 2pm!!! he was blessed!!

Today, Mr Gorgeous has decided he gets to just relax and take it easy!! (He soooo rarely does this!!) So we are going to hang in our room and watch episode after episode of Bones and play on our computers!! How fun are we???? LOL!!!

Hope you all are seeing some springy hope in your futures!! If not, move to Texas. We are in our three weeks of Spring (maybe at the end!). Soon it will be too hot to do anything outside, so we are enjoying it while we can!! but that's all i'm going to say! LOL!!

love you all!

LaurieW - I just saw the ZigZag scrap newsletter and your layout for the font challenge got the GLOW award and you get a prize! It's a very cool awesome layout!!!!

Clara: So glad to hear that everyone in your household is ok. Sad to hear about all the destruction. There were over 100 tornadoes produced from that storm. There was even one an hour nw of us. I think it's even scarier when you don't have tv to know what's going on! My weather channel was on both days.

Yeah, there were 62 tornados just in NC. We took water to a neighborhood near us and it was great. People were out working together and had amazing attitudes. It was a very blessed experience and so good for the kids. It was fun to hear my husband say he was there on behalf of the church. Tuesday and Wednesday I am doing some shifts at a shelter where a lot of people without homes are staying until they figure out what is next. We got dropped off in front of an elementary school that is now closed. It will be closed for the rest of the year and the kids will have to get re-allocated to other schools. the schools here are so big so they will have 900 kids to find new schools for. Thankfully they will have the displaced teachers to go with them. Now they just need to find classrooms. It is such a mess. I’ve been praying a lot. It is just dumbfounding!!
