Christmas Dining?

Danesa

Danesa
Since this is such an unusual and unprecedented Christmas, how are you all handling your Christmas meals? Are you going to still have a large Christmas meal or have you toned down because of the inability to gather together?

It's just me, but it's so hard to think of not cooking for my neighbors and get together throughout the day. I am going to still cook a spiral ham with all the trimmings and then freeze individual portions to eat throughout the coming weeks. At least maybe it will seem somewhat "normal" in this abnormal season. I seriously considered ordering a take out for the first time ever. haha

What ever you do, I hope it will be merry and that 2021 will be brighter for us all.

Danica, I will be alone this Christmas, too. The family have chosen to stay safe and stay within their bubbles. I have been busy the past couple of weeks and have cooked some different meals, divided them into single servings and froze them. I will get one of them out for Christmas dinner. I have a choice of enchiladas or Cabbage rolls... or I can nuke a packaged frozen dinner of turkey, dressing and potatoes/gravy.

Whatever you have for your Christmas dinner, enjoy it and be thankful that you are well. May you all have a wonderful and safe Merry Christmas.

We will be staying home and just eating like we normally do every other day. I'm thinking of everyone who will be alone and I hope you all can look forward to better holidays! Maybe we should all plan on Christmas in July for real next year....

I normally gather for Christmas with my daughter-in-love's big Italian family, but not this year. Our state only allows a gathering of ten anyways. They are going to split it up this year some together on Christmas Eve, some on Christmas Day. So, I will be here by myself. I'll be having homemade soup, as we're supposed to have our first snow on Christmas day. I may go to my son's on the 26th for homemade pizza, we'll have to see if that works out. I'll be thinking of you Kay, as you'll be alone on Christmas day too. I just pray everyone stays safe, and that you all have a Merry Christmas, no matter what the circumstances with hope of next year being better. Vicki, Christmas in July is looking better all the time. ♥

I have my family complete at home, 4 of us
and we are planning a 4 course dinner.
each of us makes something, nothing to fancy but just together as a family.

we start with carpaccio
then mustard soup
roastbeef, patatoes and vegetables
tiramisu and icecream

and only the tiramisu will be homemade
so I hope to enjoy it!

happy holidays to all !:hungry:

I'm honestly not sure what we're doing - dining wise - we are moving the morning after Christmas, but we're opening our gifts on Christmas evening. We'll probably just have snacky stuff.

Merry Christmas to all!!!

Merry Christmas, everyone. I ended up making a baked potato for my meal. I just can't get out of my funk, today, so keeping it REAL simple.

Diane, that mustard soup sounds intriguing. I've not heard of that one. I'd love to hear about it.

Stay safe to all.

we had snacks at 4PM, a bit too much!!
so by dinnertime nobody was really hungry, so we skipped the carpaccio and soup and went straight to the next course and tiramisu!
so the soup (new to me too) will have to wait for another day!

My "normal" two-day holiday feasting was turned upsidedown but we tried to keep some of the main traditions close to "normal."
NB: The word normal is getting a lot of leeway here!
Christmas Eve is normally split between my parents' house and then at my BILs- lots of snacks and quiche. My mom cooked a quiche and spinach dip and sent it up here and I made some appetizers to eat while we did a Zoom call with my BIL and ILs. Christmas Day my kids requested some of our traditional dips and snacks and I made them even though it was only the four of us, my DS's girlfriend and her mom. They are the only people in our bubble other than the 4 of us immediate family. I have so much food leftover. It was strange only cooking for 6 instead of the crazy full family it usually is.
