(I hope this is OK to post - If not feel free to :whip: me & remove the post!)

I found an offer to beta test a new Lightroom competitor that is coming out & if you send them feedback before June 20th they will give you the full version FREE when it is released June 30th.

I signed up & have been playing with it & it seems pretty cool - But I would love some input from those of you that use Lightroom as to how well it compares if you'd like to try it out (HINT, HINT ;) )

I can also testify that I didn't get a ton of spam after signing up or have any computer issues with the file etc.

Here's a link to an article about it which includes the link to sign up to beta test it if anyone else is interested: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13845_3-2...hotodirector-2011-win-for-free/#ixzz1ODhEO948

ETA: I forgot to post originally that currently it is only available for Windows, no Mac version :(

Sounds interesting, Lisa. Being a Mac user I can't take part in the test, although I have been an avid Lightroom user for several years now. Am happy to talk turkey however I can help.

Thanks, Selena! I completely forgot to mention that in my original post, but I edited it now :)

I've been wanting Lightroom for a while now, but have never actually used it, so I just don't know how well this stacks up - It seems quite nice, but don't know if it is missing any "must haves" compared to Lightroom.

Funny this should come up now, because I was chatting with a big time photographer friend of mine recently who I'd introduced to Lightroom a while back and he loved it big time. However, he told me that he's just moved over to Apple's Aperture instead as it does all that LR does and more whereas LR tends to stop where Photoshop would be better eg: spot removal/cloning is clumsy in LR but brilliant in PS, so that would make you buy PS too and spend more within the Adobe family.

Of course, this is about as much use as a smilie on an elephant to Windows users. Sorry. :elephant

Oh Cool! I have wanted to get Lightroom too- but $$ is a factor there.
Do you know if you can use Lightroom Presets (is that the correct term?) in this software?

I just signed up and can't wait to try it out!

Boooo!! Not for Mac? So not fair. I don't get Lightroom because of cost too. Plus I couldn't figure it out when I downloaded the free trial and didn't learn how to use it. I'm a baby and wanted someone to teach me to use it.

As far as I can tell, Chris, you can't use actual LR presets in this software - It does use presets but apparently only those created in PhotoDirector. In fact, there is a link right from the preset panel in PhotoDirector that takes you to their "Director Zone" webpage where you can d/l more presets & where people can share presets they have made themselves. There aren't a ton there yet, but people are adding more every day.

It would be wonderful if there were a way to just convert LR presets to work since there are a ton of those out there, but if there is I haven't figured it out yet!

Love LR and since I already spent the bucks (but used a student discount which helped with the price), I'm content for now. I hope it works for you guys. You need to hook us up with some of your photos in this thread.

I have really enjoyed this software- have you found where to give the feedback to get the program for free after beta? Nevermind- I found it!
