CHEERY O
Welcome to April 2025, and a new Art Journaling Challenge!

First, some housekeeping. You may notice that I am doing the first week instead of Sonja. Unfortunately Sonja informed us that she is taking a break from being part of the CheeryO team, and she is not going to be doing the Art Journaling challenge with us. She has been an integral part of our team, and her introduction posts have been amazing. I can only hope to keep up with the challenge that she has left me with, as I will take over the first week. She did pre-write up the intros for the ENTIRE MONTH before she left, so her hard work will still be used! How can you improve on perfection?

VickyDay will be joining us and will be doing the third week. Please welcome her! She is somewhat new to art journaling, but she is willing and excited to learn and grow right along with us all! None of us are experts here, and we are all growing together!! Don't ever think that you can't join our challenges because you feel you're "not there" yet. Again, we are ALL growing!
When we first started this journey, I posted this:

"The first thing I want you to know is that I am no expert. I am learning right along with you, so don’t be worried that you aren’t “good enough” yet or that you are too new to do these challenges. I'm pretty new to this style as well, having started in the last year or so.

I PROMISE you that if you play along with us, and give us half a chance, you will find yourself growing in the art journal style. Pretty soon you will notice that paint and gesso are your friends!

Do you know why I can promise you that? I can promise you that because the biggest secret of art journaling is this:

THERE IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG WAY TO DO IT!

Yes, you heard me correctly. There is no right or wrong, no grades, no “more talented than me” or anything else of that kind of thinking. Stick with us, and you will find yourself enjoying yourself more than you ever thought. Throw away your critical self. Put her in a box and tape that sucker shut!!!

The only rule is to be inspired by the topic we provide. You can scrap it in any style you wish, with any oScrap kits that you wish. You can get deep with your journaling. You can have no journaling at all. Remember that this is for anyone who wants to be inspired by the topic!

------------Now, to the challenge----------

This month, we invite you to explore the theme of "Resolve" in your art journal. Resolve is about determination, commitment, and the strength to move forward, even in the face of challenges. Through this challenge, take the opportunity to reflect on what drives you, what you are committed to, and how you stay resilient in your journey.

How can you explore "Resolve" in your art journal?

  • Reflect on a time when your determination helped you overcome an obstacle. How did it shape you?
  • Create pages that symbolize inner strength and perseverance. What colors, textures, or imagery represent your personal resolve?
  • Journal about a goal or commitment you’ve made—how do you stay focused and motivated?
  • Use this as a chance to embrace growth, persistence, and unwavering dedication to your dreams.

Tips for your creative process:

  • Don’t be afraid to express struggle and triumph—both are part of resolve.
  • Experiment with bold colors, strong lines, and layered textures to symbolize determination.
  • Include words, affirmations, or quotes that reinforce your commitment to your goals.

Some inspiring quotes about Resolve:

"The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack in will." – Vince Lombardi

"Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, ‘I will try again tomorrow.’" – Mary Anne Radmacher

"Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." – Theodore Roosevelt

"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts." – Winston Churchill

"You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it." – Margaret Thatcher

"A river cuts through rock not because of its power, but because of its persistence." – Jim Watkins

Words to Inspire Your Creativity:

Depending on how you interpret resolve, here are some words to help guide your journaling:

Strength & Determination:
Perseverance
Commitment
Endurance
Willpower
Focus

Overcoming Challenges:
Resilience
Breakthrough
Persistence
Grit
Fortitude

Personal Growth:
Self-discipline
Dedication
Growth
Unwavering
Conviction

Take this theme as an opportunity to reflect on your inner strength, embrace your goals, and express your unwavering resolve creatively. We can’t wait to see how you bring "Resolve" to life in your art journals!

Here's a Mood Board for you:

Here is my page. I took the idea of a vertical half cropped picture and paper pile from Marilyn on Rachel Jefferies CT and made the rest my own. All items are from Rachel Jefferies Lynn Grieveson "Begin", available HERE.

Challenge Guidelines & Template Info:

You can choose to do a single page, double page, tag, or TN each week, or use a divided template—one part for each week. If you don’t have the Divided Template and would like to use it, you can get it here at Dropbox. Thank you to Ona @wombat146 for providing the template choices for us!

If you use the template, we encourage you to post it incrementally:

Post one section in the first week.
  • Post an image of the two together on the second week.
  • Post three sections on the third week.
  • Share the finished page on the fourth week.
Note: The template is NEVER required—just a fun option if you want to try something different!

Challenge Rules:

  • You have until 11:59 p.m. CST on April 30 to complete your pages for this challenge.
  • To qualify for the drawing, you need to use 80% Oscraps products currently in the store (non-Oscraps products or retired O designer products can be used whether the designer is selling elsewhere or not).
  • You need to credit all products used on your page.
  • You cannot use a page created for this challenge in another Oscraps challenge.
  • Upload your page to the Art Journal Gallery and then add your layout to the challenge thread. (Instructions below.)

How to Add Your Linked Layout to a Thread:

  1. Upload your layout to the gallery first.
  2. In your forum post, click the Gallery Embed icon (little camera).
  3. This will open your gallery—click on the layout you want to embed.
  4. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click Continue.
  5. Your linked layout is now in your post! The image will appear once you click Post Reply.
Everyone who participates in any of this month’s challenges will be entered into a drawing for a $5 gift certificate to Oscraps. You can receive up to four entries into this month’s drawing.

We look forward to seeing your inspiring pages on Resolve! Happy journaling!

Oh man, what a beginning for April.
Sonja, we will miss you!!!! @svanderhaegen Thank you for all the amazing work you have done to start us off each month and all the behind the scenes work you did. We appreciate it all and thank you!
@vickyday Welcome to AJ.
@pachimac Susie, I think you described me to a T. The "put her in a box and tape that sucker shut" is perfect!!!! AJ is intimidating at first because it feels so "exposed" and to do it "right". Will we be open and bleed over our pages or will we strive to make it "pretty". I took all your advice in the beginning and threw "pretty" out the window and just allowed it to flow. The journey (so far) has been amazing and I've loved seeing all the amazing layouts that come from AJ.
Thank you to all who put so much of themselves out here for us and lead us in the process of self expression. I haven't gotten the love of paint yet but working on it :heartpumppink:
Now, the theme for this month........ WOW what a word to dive into.

Thank you so much, Susie, for a great start to April. A project I've been working on, Decluttering, fits this month's theme perfectly.
