These are such happy colors and I think not commonly used together much. My school colors were blue and gold so I've been aware of this lack and watched for them for fifty years, and it's high time they got some attention. LOVE!
A wonderful and thoughtful card that will be treasured. Who knows what will be around a hundred years from now. This seems like the kind of thing that just might. Use archival paper. ;)
Wednesday was another bitter cold (six degrees) morning. Each day we saw more photographers at the good spots on the refuge and were glad we'd had it to ourselves most of the time before this trip. There were 7 vehicles besides ours, and long lenses in every sunrise photo I took.
The sandhill cranes (I think 23,000) come through Colorado and rest at the Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge in March. Dates are vague, nobody talks about this. It's a 5 1/2 hour drive for us. We saw three other vehicles today, none yesterday, but they have a Crane Festival that starts Friday...
On Tuesday when we got to the refuge, we found only a few dozen cranes where there had been thousands just the day before. The weather seemed pretty much the same. After a few photos, we moved to the south end of the refuge. There were many thousands and the sky was filled with them.
With a below-zero wind chill, we figured the cranes were hanging out on the ice after sunrise because they were cold like we were. It gave us a great chance to see their wings bathed in sunlight. They're communal and they huddled together, so we mostly got group photos of them.
On Monday there were thousands of birds, but not as many as in the fall. More would be expected each day leading up to Friday's Crane Festival. We loved the fog that lifted off the ice briefly, and hoped for a liftoff. We didn't stay til they flew. It was cold. 5°F, wind chill -3°F.
