Journaling
At the end of WWII, in 1945 General McArthur moved into the Dai-Ichi Life Insurance building. His office was on the 6th floor. Here he administrated Japan until 1951 when President Harry S. Truman dismissed him. At that time General Mark Clark occupied the office until 1952 when the San Francisco Peace Treaty went into effect. The Dai-Ichi Life Insurance Company has preserved McArthurs office as it was during his time there. Until the attacks of 9/11, the office was open to the public for tours. Now it is only opened for special occasions.

McArthur had a view across the mote and over the walls of the Imperial Palace and Gardens. His office is relatively small at 581 square feet. It contains McArthurs desk, which had no drawers, three green leather chairs, and a few paintings. The insurance company has added a bronze bust of McArthur to the office. Otherwise, it is as McArthur left it in 1951.
