Day 7 - This is December | CHALLENGE

the tradition of eating stollen

The Royal Infant

My family and my grandmother was very attached to certain Saxon traditions.
This also included the baking of the Christstollen, which is also known in Dresden under the name "Striezel".
The tradition of baking Christmas Stollen in Dresden is very old. Historians fond out that Christmas Stollen was already baked in 1400.
Religion aspects influenced the history of the "Dresden Christmas Stollen". The rolled form of the Stollen symbolized the wrapped in a nappy and lie in a hay box Christ Child.

For my grandmother, the annual baking of the Christmas stollen was a very important tradition, which she fulfilled with devotion. I was always with her in the kitchen and she kept telling me about the stollen - thickly coated with melted butter and thickly with powdered sugar to commemorate the baby Jesus in diapers.
She always spoke of the "royal child" - and
At the end she always said: “There it lies, the swaddling baby, covered in butter and sprinkled with sugar, white as freshly fallen snow, heavy with raisins, candied lemon peel and almonds, and surrounded by the delicate scent of vanilla.

Your page design is beautiful - the festive colours and elements, the masked photo and the word art that feels part of the photo. Love it!

Beautiful page and story. Here in Finland, our family eat Stollen as well during Christmas, isn't a tradition exactly, but part of our Christmas celebration. @pachimac the taste is a little bit different to Pannetone, actually a lot different although both includes dried fruits, the stollen is very rich in spices (cardamom, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon, etc), and includes rum and marzipan. My grandma (mom side) went from Italian background, she used to bake pannetone every single Christmas, and my sisters and I learned a little bit from her.
I'm gonna lift this page @Veronika I just need to take a picture of the stollen that I bought yesterday, and then eat a very good slice with coffee, lol.

I'm totally surprised that you also know and eat Stollen in Finland! I thought that was a typical German tradition
This is so interesting for me to read - and I'm really happy that you want to lift the page - thank you♥

Finns really LOVE many German dishes, actually our "traditional Easter eggs" are made from an old German recipe, that a factory bought long time ago. This was a great chance to eat a delicious slice of Stollen and scrap a page about a delicious bread, hopefully I won't eat all in just one day, lol.
Hope you and yours have a very merry holidays :xmas5::xmas8::xmas7:
