I didn't use extraction for the photo - the original has a white background and so applying Multiply blend mode was enough.

I have no idea how many layers my page has - I started with the painted edges and then just kept adding bits of color and then texture to 'patch up' the 'bold' spots...

Wonderful! Great reason to have a white background. Makes it so easy to blend without all the time sometimes necessary to do an extraction. Love the colors and the element choices.
