Thanks Susan! This is a downy, which is very, very similar to a hairy but downy is quite a bit smaller. Don't think it's a juvenile (not sure I have ever seen one). This is in our backyard the other day

That's a great shot! We heard one this morning and it turned out he was atop a telephone pole. No way to get a shot of him but the sound he was making was wonderful (maybe not if you were trying to sleep). Beautiful framing!
