Hi everyone, ummm, hello, August?? already!!! Can't believe how quick the days and months are flying past!!

So what has everyone been up to in the hybrid/mixed media/art journal area of your life? Have you tried anything new? Experimenting with anything different? Enquiring minds would like to know so please post your projects here............ they do not necessarily have been created during the last few months, they can be older projects that you haven't shared before if you like. :)

Here is one of mine that I completed earlier in the year......... on the left I was trying out a page with a border and just going out over the border in certain areas, while on the right I tried something different...... but I did use similar colours so the double page would have some cohesiveness. :)

This is how it looks as a double page:

This is the left hand side:
LEFT-SIDE.jpg

and the right hand side:
RIGHT-SIDE.jpg

I used a variety of stuff, magazine pictures, pieces of fabric, acrylic paints, alcohol inks, posca pens.......... the little pics of the birds from an old calendar I bought years ago at a quilting shop! its amazing what you can incorporate into a page like this! lol! also used stamps and stencils. I prefer the left hand side with the border, with just some things sticking out, want to do another one but with different colours.

Just gorgeous, Ona! I really havent had the time to do anything! Well, that's not true - I did have a layout of Asher put on a canvas at Walgreen's in Florida and she picked it up there. It was for her birthday. She loved it!

I thought you might like these. I start Christmas on my Momma's birthday 1st of August and I make all my cards in batches of 4, so that they are not all the same and it breaks it up and makes it less tedious.
I used a strip die to get these little strips and then I collaged them to get these fun bright backgrounds.

@ wombat146: Ona, what a dreamy double spread! I love the borders as well and it gives me instant input and ideas that - and how - you can creatively incorporate the border into the page

@ ClaireG : I like your cards a lot, I like the pattern

Really great texture, @wombat146! And gorgeous colors!
@ClaireG - I’m in awe of your cards! Fabulous!

@jlholden15 (Jana Holden) and I video arted a couple of times recently. We had a five hour session where we each did a journal spread — here’s mine, which makes use of my extensive use of my vintage paper ephemera stash, acrylic paint — and my current crush on my gold Signo pen for my journaling.

After we finished our journal pages, we tackled the first week of an Insta mixed media "scavenger hunt" challenge. We were to use something pink, a cat, dots, letters or numbers, and scribbles.
vrd-jana-session-02.jpg

Then yesterday — August 9 — we did the second week's challenge. We each put our own spin on Jana's cute idea of using up some of the (seemingly thousands) of die-cut flowers we’ve had forever to make these bouquets. Mine ended up being in a “teacup” when I found a circle-punched bit of the Kraft envelope on the floor. So what started out as a journal page ended up way more “crafty” than I realized it would be and a way more literal interpretation of the challenge (use blooming flowers, teal, fabric, tissue, and stripes) than I intended — but I love it. The friggin' (and apparently never-ending) family drama we are presently enduring is really draining, so arting is a welcome relief.

I LOVE everybody's projects - I haven't done squat for a couple of weeks. I'm slowly replacing my stash - I got a set of paints, brushes, stencils, distressing inks, and thank goodness, I still have all of my Copics. Now, I just have to use them. Hahaha

Loving all the creative work here!
I've been working in multimedia with collage and watercolor pencil in a small watercolor pad. I've posted a few here before. I got down to the last few sheets and wanted a new one but the store didn't have it. I tried their online store and it wasn't there either nor any other in the same size spiral bound. Instead I ordered one smaller and one larger. All three are different brands but the paper is 140 lb, cold press in all. But it differs. The new small one is only 5" x 7" including the part in the spiral. It isn't the same texture and maybe thinner. I had to try it out with different types of paper in the collage, ink, and watercolor pencil. I like what I did but the paper didn't hold up as well as it should, I think. The small size means it will be easy to carry around though, so I'll keep using it that way.

OHHHHHHHHH!!! Gee, I just LOVE your work Jean!!! This is so awesome and FIRST thing I saw was a bird in all it's gorgeous beauty! Love the softness of it all! So very beautiful! And isn't it a pain not to find what you were looking for, I have several journals and while they might 'say' they are same paper weight, they certainly are not! lol!! :)

I'm a newbie to the mixed media crowd. I never thought I could do it with "real" products! Here's my latest in my journal...

For those that don't use Instagram Susie, you may like to to just attach your picture here. :)

I tried to - it kept telling me it was too large. I squeezed it down to 600 pixels wide and still no go! Since my IG is public, I thought the link would show. It doesn't?

Trying again with a smaller pic...apparently I had to go down to 400 pixels/72dpi to make it work!

Very cool, Susie - love the "feel" of this! I post 700 x 700 images on IG all the time. Yours is rectangular, isn't it? I use an app called Liner Upper when I have something rectangular. That might be your problem. You shouldn't have to go down that small.

If people are on IG then it would work, they would see your pic, but not a lot of people actually use IG is what I meant. :) and yeh, I normally resize anything I want to post here in the forum, just like you would for a layout to upload to the gallery. It looks a fantastic page by the way, I like how she is looking out of the window, deep in thought.

That is so true about the papers! And my piece is based on a bird, just not it a really literal way.

I love your style! I have pretty much gotten collage down, but I can't seem to get the layers thing going! I don't have many stamps, and I just don't seem to get the look I see in my head. I know also that I don't do gesso well - it's too bold!

How do you know WHAT to layer? When you made this page, did you know what the end product would look like? Did you pick out what you were going to use, or did you just feel it and grab it?

These are both so wonderful!!! I especially love the kitty cat and the fun strips of paper with doodles on them of the first one. The second just screams "Pick me!!"

On another note - laughing and loving Is what gets me through the hard times. Our family has had much tragedy and upheaval in the past 5-10 years. I've yet to scrap THAT much!! UGH!
