Calling all Mac users........

My 5 yr old 20" iMac is behaving a little erratically, actually, I think it's PSE that's behaving badly, but it's affecting the way the whole Mac works - my Finder just completely fails to display anything in CoverFlow after PSE has crashed out. So far, re-starting is clearing the problem. But as my DH heard me cursing yet again last night, he said did I want a new Mac. WAHHHHH!

Actually, he's said this before - the kids could have this one so it wouldn't go to waste - but I've stopped him before because it feels like an excessive way to spend money when it works well enough most of the time. We are in the process of buying a house right now, but as my DH pointed out, if I want/need a new computer I have to do it now before we commit to the house.

BUT... my question you girls, is, do any of you have the 27" screen? And if you do, can you have two programs open and on display at once, ie: side by side, eg: PSE and Bridge to view your photos/stash? Or would one need to do this with 2 screens? Also, does anyone have the 4GB RAM? I'm currently running on 2GB, which I think is PSE's problem and why it's crashing. If you have the 4GB, does your scrapbooking software work seemlessly and fast? Mega fast?

I'm such a tight fisted person money wise that I can't bear to spend money unnecessarily, but I don't know if maybe I'm biting off my nose.......

I only have desktops in my lab at school. And I don't scrap with those. :-) My coworker had a 27 inch, but she used it to display her PC and her Mac. I don't use Bridge because it doesn't play well with my PC server where all my scrap stuff is stored. That said, my laptop has 4 Gig and it usually works great. :-)

I say get the new computer and go to the Apple store and make them show you how it all works to see if it will work for you. Our friend Dave have the 27" and loves it.

Hi Selena - I have the new 27inch :) LOVE IT LOVE IT

Yes, you can do side by side and also 4 quadrants and see them great-I will do a screen shot for you. I was used to doing this in windows so I use a program to make the windows "snap" to the sides/corners of the screen. It's free and it's called Better Touch Tool.

In fact now, it dwarfs my 24inch PC screen :)

I have 12GB of RAM now (I upgraded it obviously) and I also got the faster processor which is the 2.93Ghz Intel i7.

It flies and I am one of those people that have 25 tabs open in my browser, run CS5, ACDSee, AIM, Yahoo, Lightroom and 3-4 finder windows all open at the same time.

Think of it this way-get bigger now because you won't ever say "oh darn, I should've gotten a smaller monitor". If you are going to spend that much money, get what you want is what I'm thinking.

Also, at Apple store they have a book that has organization discounts for specific products so if you belong to any organization, ask them if it's in their book. One discount might be better on a product than another. For example, I work for AT&T and we get a discount but that discount is different by product (a laptop might have a better discount than a 27in) and my husband is in law enforcement and they give a law enforcement discount and the law enforcement discount may be better for an iphone than the AT&T discount is. So what I'm saying is ask them to check on any/all your eligible organizations and then ask which one of those has the best discount for the product you want.

Be back with a screen shot for you.

Suzy! You are my hero!!! :drum:

That totally answers my question and more, and I reckon DH is gonna have to write a stonkingly large cheque to the Apple store very soon. We're pretty lucky here in that there's a large store just 3/4 mile away - d'reckon I'd get a 27" iMac home on the bus - :hurt:

good for you!! Our Apple store is at the mall and the box was so big that I had to go out to my car and drive around to the back of it so the guy could put it in my SUV. I also had to take the hutch off of the back of my desk because it didn't fit inside it. Although it's a 27inch screen, you have to add the extra inches onto it because of it being raised.

When are you going to get it? Oh Im so excited for you!!
