Tip – Between the pages
Irene here with a quick tip for you! I always look at elements so see if I can use them in a different way. So for instance the open book that you can find in nOvel, the September Oscraps collab. But you can find books in many other kits.
What I like is if I can place something between the pages of the book and not just on top of it.
So just open a new canvas, place a background and the book element.
It’s a wonderful element already and nothing wrong with just adding things on top of it, but I like to go further. If you want something between the pages there are different ways to do that. What I often do is copy a part of the book. So looking at this sample book I have to make a selection of the left pages on top.
I used the rectangular marque tool for it, because those pages are pretty straight. I think this is the easiest tool for this particular selection. When I finished the selection I rightclick on the layout and choose Copy Layer. It now only copies the part that is selection. Make sure you highlighted the book element in your layer palette first!
As you can see there is an extra layer of the pages now! Select both layers in the layer palette, rightclick and link those layers so they will stay together when you want to move them.
Now comes the fun part! You can place elements or photos between those pages!
You see! And if you understand this simple technique, you will see you can use it with many other elements too! You can place someone in a box or in a bucket in the same way. Just look at your element and copy just the right part so you can place someone/something in between those layers!
thanks for the tip Irene, that’s very handy to know and not difficult at all.
Ooooh … why haven’t I ever thought of doing this before?!?!? The result look fab! Thanks, Irene!
What a great idea! I never thought of doing this!
Wow! This is a great tutorial. I was having a hard time erasing elements with this idea. Now I know what’s the easiest way 🙂 Thanks.
Amazingly clever, Irene, thank you!!
