Technique: Misting

VickiSTips & Techniques, Tutorials

As a previous paper scrapper, my favourite technique I would employ on my pages was misting. As a result, I had a large collection of stencils and misting liquids. I simply love the misting effect on paper. Now as a digital scrapper, I yearn to employ the same technique but without all the mess and inky fingers! I came across how to do it while surfing online.

Instructions:

1. Find a suitable mask and drag it onto your page. I made use of Anna’s ArtPlay Palette Blooming Marvellous brush.

2. Then hover your cursor on the thumbnail image in the layers palette and press control(PC)/command(Mac) and click. This will select the outline of the mask.

3. Create a new layer.

5. Click on the ‘eyeball’ to turn off the mask layer.

6. Choose a brush. I made use of Anna Aspnes’ Script Tease Love No1 brushes. Select colour and stamp on the page. Your ‘misting’ will appear on the inside of the mask. Feel free to create more layers and play with the different brushes/colours.

7. If you want to mist outside the mask, after step 2, go to Select, then Inverse. This will allow you to mist outside the mask.

8. Once you are done with misting, deselect the mask (press control/command D).

9. You can stamp in black and apply a gradient if that is easier than playing with the different colours.

I can’t tell how how much fun I’m going to have now. I’m going to explore the endless possibilities of misting and really play with them on my pages. Do share yours in the gallery!
