Wacom Bamboo Tablet... or should I get a new lens??

So, I need to return the *wonderful* printer my honey got me for Christmas -- he spent WAY too much and it was something I had suggested he get for himself, but he understood that as I wanted it.

ANYWAYS, he's wanting me to still pick out my own gift... I'm debating between a wacom pen & touch bamboo tablet, or a 50mm 1.4 lens for my DSLR. I'll end up selling the software bundled with the tablet, since I have photoshop already.

What do you all think? Are the tablets useful (I do a lot of graphic design aside from scrapbooking) or should I splurge on the lens?

i can't help, but I have to share that i got the Bamboo Craft- touch and pen- and I cannot WAIT to rip into that. I have an old wacom, but really want to get started using the touch screen.

Either gift sounds great for you!!!

Oh, I've dreamed of a bamboo tablet - they seem to be promoting 2 models Pen and Touch Small Tablet and Pen and Touch Craft Tablet - the latter being more expensive -
I'll be interested in all comments - so please let us know what happens -
mind you have a difficult choice - for me it would be easier because I have an older camera so no lens needed....
have fun lucky meg!

The only difference between the pen & touch and the craft tablet is there's more software bundled with the craft, specifically digi scrap tutorials, and it's silver. Whereas the pen & touch is black.

Sigh... I think I'm leaning towards the lens, just because I see that paying off more in the long run, especially if I don't have time during the semester to scrapbook!

I got the tablet and cannot wait to rip into it either. I haven't had a chance to sit down and really check it out so therefore haven't opened it yet. I am totally stoked about it though.

I'm like Selena. I have both...thought I'd really use the tablet a lot but never have really. Of course, I'm not very artsy so that might be the problem...and I'm sure that they have improved since I got mine several years ago.

But a good lens...I love my camera and that's the lens that is most often on it. Couldn't stand to be without it.

hee hee!

I can't use a regular mouse/pad anymore, esp when I am scrapping- I love having that pen for good brush control.

I am so lazy with my camera that I almost never change my lenses out.

wow seems like lots of our respective gift givers were on the same page!! My brother got me the wacom bamboo craft pen and touch......no idea how to use it, dont really kno much about it,........ just hoping it will help me with extractions. cant wait to tear into it either and check it out........as soon as i have 5 free seconds all too myself..... does anybody know when that is????

VERY HARD DECISION!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would want both....I am no help at all...but how totally awesome for you either way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jessica Sprague is doing a tablet class starting mid Jan. I signed up before Christmas. I think the class is still on 20% off for another couple of days. I find her classes a bit pricey for me usually but as this was on offer and I don't use my tablet at all (as I'm not really sure how to) I figured that this was a small price to pay to learn how to get the best from it.

Check her website.

Fun, Selana and Linda.:)
Part of the Bamboo bundle was a free tablet class at DSP. It also starts in January.
we'll have to compare notes!

5 seconds? Good luck! I could probably find 4 seconds.....

I didn't see the free class at DSP but I did see the free PS Elements and Corel Painter Essentials. I wonder if I could sell it since I already have Elements and no desire for Corel. Hmmm...
