Valentines Cards

clarabear

always chatty at the O!!
So, every year Ethan and I make something for Valentine's Day for his class. they can never make food so we make fun things for cards. 2 years ago we made treat bags and included homemade crayons, which were fun. Then last year we made these robots that somebody here actually suggested:

I changed them a little bit...the feet were starbursts and the arms were sticks of gum. They were a total hit. I had a mom call and tell me about it. Well, Ethan will be the new kid in school this year so we will be making something for sure. Ethan will not ever but Valentine's...he either makes something or he doesn't take anything. How it goes for us. So, i was just wondering if any of you guys have any great craft card stuff. I have a few ideas but want to see if anybody else does stuff or has ideas for their kids.

Like Diane wrote, no big Valentine-things overhere..

Why don't you make those robots again since he is new to the class?

Or something like this: (Or is this to girly? LOL )
Home Made Bath Salts Valentine Gift
Kids can make Mom or Grandma a special Valentine gift
My younger daughter made bath salts as a gift for me when she was in preschool - and then years later she made them for me again, when she was a budget-strapped college student!

Home made bath salts are easy to make and economical, plus they have no added chemicals and you can customize the fragrance. Make your natural bath salts extra special by adding a few drops of Mom's favorite fragrance or an essential oil to create a delightful aromatherapy experience.

Decorate small jars or canisters with a custom label, bits of lace and a ribbon, and you've got a lovely inexpensive Valentine's Day gift.

General Directions - Home Made Bath Salts
Mix up each batch of Bath Salts ingredients in a large glass or plastic bowl, then pack loosely into small jars (recycled baby food jars work great) or plastic bags with twist ties or zip tops.

Kids can use their hands to work the ingredients together.

Decorate the containers with a custom label or gift tag and bits of ribbon or lace, and you've got a lovely inexpensive home made gift perfect for Mother's Day.

Home Made Bath Salt Recipe
Mix ingredients in a large glass or plastic bowl, then pack into small jars or canisters (see instructions above).

Fragrant Bath Salts
1 cup Epsom salts
2 drops of essential oil or perfume
3-4 drops of red food coloring (optional) - makes salts pink for Valentine's Day

Mix all ingredients well; store in an airtight container. Package in an air tight jar with the top decorated with fabric or lace; attach a small scoop tied to the jar with a ribbon. Include directions for use on label or tag (see below).

To use, sprinkle a generous tablespoon of bath salts into warm running bath water to dissolve the crystals and release the fragrance.
I made it once at a b-day party from a girl from my class. Waaayyyy back, when I was little:nod:

I remember these from last year....so cute!!!

I will have to put a thinking cap on.....We never did a big deal over Valentine's day...just the simple store bought cards, because it's Traci's Birthday...I never wanted to take away from her day.

Can't help I'm afraid as Valentine's has absolutely NOTHING to do with children here! It's a very adult thing.

Do American kids give each other Christmas cards? That's getting bigger and bigger here in the UK, but definitely store bought and as cheap as chips, hopefully!

Ok. I just went through the website and mag quickly. Here are some that caught my eye:

http://familyfun.go.com/valentines-day/valentines-day-cards/kernels-of-love-671630/ (But it's food...)

And they had a "Dragon Glove" that was really cute and easy, but is probably too young for Ethan. And I thought I could get gloves probably cheap now at Wallyworld.

The last thought I had was to look at some of my die cuts at school for some ideas. We have this set that I could use. http://www.accucuteducation.com/Manipulatives-Set-2-P2448.aspx You could see what the closest scrapbooking store to you has in the way of die cuts.

There are some of my ideas!! :)

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe pixie sticks for the antennae? There was also a flip cell phone that used the button candy for the dial pad. And the saying was something about unlimited minutes...that was cute too.

I liked Sara's link to the valentine's paper airplanes (link #2). Those would make great valentines for a boy to give out.

Another idea is to make your own play-doh at home and cut them out with a large heart shaped cookie cutter. If you can find a cookie cutter that also have a message stamp on it that would be even cuter. The heart could then be placed in a cellophane or ziplock bag.

Being a teacher, I find that so many candy are given out during the holidays and I love the creative parents who find other goodies to share with the class. We can only eat so many conversation hearts at a time.
