My favourite plants are blooming and I can't wait to see all white snowballs everywhere,

but I have some unexpected visitors too

lots and lots of hungry animals all eating away all the leaves.

normally when you walk under the flowers, it snows on you,
but now, I am afraid to touch the plants
scared something else falls down on me!

I get so upset when critters eat my plants. The last 2 years, I have had infestations on my lilies. The first year, I had to cut them to the ground and treat the soil they were so bad. Last year, I had to remove the larvae by hand before they ate the leaves completely so it was not as devastating to the plant (although my stomach was :puke: )
I hope that you are able to enjoy your snowballs from afar!

you can put diatomaceous earth at the foot of your hydrangeas, or spray water with a spoon of black soap

I lost part of an Alberta Spruce a couple of years ago to spider mites, and a 20-year old climbing rose to some sort of virus the year before that. It just breaks this gardener's heart to have that happen.

What is black soap? I used regular dish soap and water to wash the leaves of the lilies and sprayed them with neem oil. I am open to any new ideas.
Scott "raises" praying mantises- he orders egg sacs online and then when they hatch, he puts them out in gardens.

Angie- I feel your pain. I was devastated when I had to cut my lilies down.

I use also "SAVON NOIR" in french ! lol .... black soap ....
it works well ! and is natural !

I dilute the black soap in water and spray it on the roses or all the plants attacked by the aphids

My plants are as big as trees, flowers from 1.50 metre to 3.00 metre high, and 3.00 metre wide, so spraying is not really an option.
We had a lot of rain and storm last night, but they did not wash away.
for now they are eating the leaves, not the flowers. I just hope the plant stays healthy!
