It is hard to believe that today is the first anniversary of us adopting Charlie! He grew from a 29 pound pup to 105 pounds! He is a big boy! We have been doing some training with a dog trainer as Charlie has "stranger danger". He is a good boy and very smart but is wary of people he doesn't know. That may also partly be due to the breeds he is. He is half German Shepherd and half Great Pyrenees. We are hoping to help him so he doesn't get so anxious when we have a house full of company over for holidays. Have any of you faced this with your dog? If so, do you have any pointers?

That is a big boy!!! For visitors, I always give them treats to feed the dogs and then our dogs love them. Food always wins in this household.

Yes yes!! We got a pup a week before the Covid shut down. He's now 5, and a good boy, but very reactive to other dogs especially, and people walking by. I actually stopped walking him because it was too stressful for the both of us. Anytime anyone came unsuspectingly around a corner, poor dog would go nuts. WE got cornered by a neighbor once, who had no dog sense. She totally trapped us. Our dog was going beserk. I actually escaped from this situation by going through the middle of another neighbors yard. Now his playtime and exercise time is in the backyard. With all that said, we have him on a couple supplements for calming. Our vet recommended them. He's been on them for a couple years, and they do make all the difference. He's a much calmer, happier more playful dog. He's even fine with company in the house. (Still reactive to other dogs though) He's not as big as your dog, he's 78 pounds. I highly recommend these products.

Here are the products: Both are non prescription.
VetriScience Composure Calm & Confident Clinically Tested Chicken-Flavored Chews Calming & Anxiety Supplement for Dogs, 60 count Our dog gets two in the morning and two in the evening. If he's going to the vet he gets more on top of that. No drugs - all natural. Mostly B vitamins, theanine and Colostrum. You can see calming effects right away.
Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets Calming Care Liver Flavored Powder Calming Supplement for Dogs, 30 count - This is powder that goes in the food once a day. It takes 6 weeks to see much difference. This is a pro-biotic, also no drugs in it.
Both have been worth their weight in gold. We are all happier with these products on board. Check it out.

Thank you so much, Amy! I appreciate your suggestions! I will have to get those for sure! The shelter we got him from had a grant for free dog training so we contacted them a few weeks ago. He had one session last week and we learned some tips but he has so far to go. She said he has stranger danger. He also reacts to people and dogs going down the street in front of our house. We love him and want to help him with these issues.
