Oscraps

This should be easy...

I want a simple, not grungy, clean border. Preferably a thick line surrounded by a thin line, like the border option in Word that I can get.

Like this....

I can't find a brush or an image or anything that will work. I tried to put a solid box and delete the inside of it, but it looked goofy.

*sigh* Suggestions?

Try strokes maybe? You can do a selection and do edit stroke, then do a slightly bigger or smaller selection and repeat. Or create the shape you want and use a layer style to do the stroke and repeat on the next size layer. You can set the layer opacity to 0 and then you'll just have the stroke.

Does that make sense?

You could also you draw your rectangle shape with the rectangle tool. Or with the square tool if the page is square. Draw a smaller one inside the other at whatever distance then add weight to the inside one with the stroke.

The rectangle just gives me solid boxes. And I apparently don't know how to use the stroke function. I couldn't get it to work. I gave up and just worked hard on selecting the inside of the solid rectangle and deleting the inside of it. It looks good. I'll post a picture later!

Petey, too late to worry about it now as you've worked it out but the menu should allow you to reduce the fill to zero. Easier then to see what happens when you add the stroke.

You probably know this but the stroke can be positioned inside/outside or centre depending on the look you want and you can make it thick or thin.

Glad you're happy with the result and good for you working it out

I will have to try again though with your directions and see if I can figure it out. It will be good to know for the future! Thanks! I will ask you for more tips once I get back on the computer tomorrow. :-). Thanks!

make a brush with the border shape you want (rectangle, blank spot, square?) and then make a path shape in the shape you want that border on (probably the rounded corners tool?) and then go to the paths panel, and from the menu select "stroke" and then "brush"... just make sure the brush you last selected is the right one.
