Organizing your Fonts (font book)

I am not too familiar with Font Book. I basically just load them in and not don't bother to organize. But I am getting an increasing amount of fonts and would like to organize them. I see that you can make collections but does that show up in PS? Or do you FontBook users just switch back and forth between FontBook and your program?

Hi! If you organize your fonts into collections, they are not linked to PS. They still show up in PS in alphabetical order. I think that is what you were asking. If not, ask again and I'll come back :)

I use Font ExplorerX and it has a WYSIWYG window in it so that is the way I choose which font I want to use. I pick the one I want to use and then go into PS and find it in the alphabetical list and choose it that way.

I do what Suzie and you both say. Find what I want in Font Book and then look alphabetical in PS. :)

Me too, although in all honesty, despite having hundreds of fonts loaded, I routinely only use about 10 of them!

Thanks for your answers. I was thinking that maybe they woul dbe organized in PS - but I have done some organizing in Font Book and it didn't show in PS. I wasn't sure if I was doing something wrong.

I guess I will just have to use Font Book more. I do like that PS has the little preview but sometimes it just doesn't do a font justice.

always chatty at the O!!
I have had the same question. I saw that font book shows the sorting in Word and Excel and was very bummed it doesn't show in PSE. I am lazy and don't mess with the font book stuff since I was so bummed about it not correlating with PSE. I guess I might try it though.

Suzy/Sara - What does font explorer do that font book doesn't?

You can type in the actual text that you are going to use and see it in that font. Like a preview. More than just the alphabet in that font. That's the biggest benefit to those products.

In Font Xplorer I can select the fonts I want and see exactly how they will look-see the screen shot to see what I mean. I highlight the fonts I want to see and the window shows them all on there which, for me makes a difference because I want to compare them all at the same time, not look at one then another. I love this about the program. I just found out another way to see the font on the layout but to me it still isn't as good as this is - I'll explain that in another post but here is the screen shot:

Oh. That is really cool Suzy. I love that you compare the exact text but with different fonts. Is Font xplorer free? I am definitely going to look into this.

Yes Clara. In Font Book, you only see the alphabet and characters.

I thought Font Explorer was only PC though...Suzie are you using it in dual boot?
