Online Backup

always chatty at the O!!
So, I had Mozy in the past for online backup and found out after the fact that it didn't back up my EHDs. So, I am wondering who you guys use. Currently I have found LiveDrive (thanks Suzy) and ElephantDrive. I would love to hear about your experience with it. Right now I am leaning towards LiveDrive but would love some feedback from everyone. I have been very lucky to have never lost anything major but if I did I would be devastated to lose everything I have. I lost half a birthday once and thought the world was ending so I can't imagine losing everything and right now I have everything on one EHD!! I don't want to get another EHD to back it up I just want to know it is in a cloud and safe. Thanks guys.

I wonder why Mozy doesn't back up EHD- when I used it all my EHD photos were backed up- and I retrieved them as well when the EHD went bellyup- haven't put it on this laptop, although I am paying for it. My EHD was always on, wonder if it depends on the EHD?

That's weird, Mozy always backed up my EHD. But I switched from them when they went to their tiered pricing plan because my back-up size was going to cost me $200 a month.

I use CrashPlan now and LOVE them. Can't say enough how much I love them, and can't count how many times they've saved my bacon. The software lets me back up to their online servers and then also to another EHD on my computer so I have an on-site copy. So when my little portable EHD failed I didn't have to wait to download it off the CrashPlan server, I just restored from my on-site backup on another EHD here on my computer. Took about 20 minutes and it was done.

It also does "versioning" so it saves versions of each file, so if I mess something up on a file I can go back and download yesterday's version - or last month's version. I've done that a few times. Like one of the template files I use to do ads/graphics for my new releases, I accidentally flattened and shrunk the original and saved it that way. Didn't realize until a month later when I opened it up again. On a whim I just went into my CrashPlan account to find the last version saved before that date and it restored it right away. The software encrypts and compresses the back-ups. I have a 2TB EHD that only holds my CrashPlan backups and it can hold all these versions and still only take up a small footprint on the actual drive. I back up my 2 internal drives and my one portable drive automatically every night and it all fits in the space of about 500GB on that 2TB drive.

In love love love.

I am using Carbonite, but I worry about my EHD. All of my photos on on my hard drive, only scrap stuff on my ehd.
That crash plan sounds very cool. Its probably out of my budget however.

Which plan do you use Peppermint? I am liking those prices and I saw good things about someplace else also.

Wow!! Looking at the prices makes me almost want to sign up for 4 years. Pricing is awesome. That may just be what I go with. Looks like they have a free trial...downloading now.

Okay...the backup has started. Whooo!!! I can't believe how much scrap stuff and photos I have...153.5GB. Eeeeek!! That is a lot of stuff. I can't imagine how much it was because I went through and did some major cleanup...although I haven't cleaned up my pics yet. That's next.

After Jeff's third HD failure of the year... I think we're going to sign up for CrashPlan also... the family unlimited... Just need to convince him! He's being a butthead!! But after the panic attack he had this afternoon over losing 1000's of bookmarks (his backup is probably corrupted) I think he'll agree $6/mo is totally worth it!

I've been on Carbonite...but have been thinking of a better back up plan.
It doesn't back up EHD's. This Crash Plan looks great. Think I'll switch when I have to renew!

Clara you should see if they have a referral plan and see if anyone is interested-maybe you could both get a perk for referring friends!
