New Jersey needs good thoughts

As well as rain. Honestly, we need rain more than anything. The whole state is erupting with brush fires and wildfires. yesterday there were three, now there is another one, 0% contained, just a few miles from my house. There a a large fire two towns south of me, and one in Mahwah which is the town where my DD works. Those are just the ones near me. There are more in Central and South Jersey.
We haven't had measurable rain since September. The forecast calls for a slight chance of light rain tomorrow night but who knows how much more is going to burn by then?

I'm with you, Chris, we sure do need that rain. I saw another few fires erupted today, at one point I could smell smoke and my neighbor said it was from one of the recent ones. It's unbelievable how they keep erupting all over the state and the winds we have had doesn't help at all.
Holding good thoughts for you and us all, thanks for starting this and for everyones's good wishes.

Thank you! My FB feed is practically nothing but photos of the fire closest to me (~3 miles away). As of the last NJ Wildfire update, it is more than 2000 acres and still 0% contained.
It feels literally and mentally very close to home. Several state and county parks are closed, including one county park where my son, a Park Ranger, works. There is also one death being reported, a forest ranger died when a tree fell on him.
All day yesterday we heard the helicopters overhead and sirens. Roads and part of the highway on both sides of my town have been closed. This is not normal :(

I read that too- that some of the "older" fires are resparking. I am not sure how that works but it it so bad. All good thoughts to you that the Livingston one doesn't restart! :hug2:

Wish I could send you the much needed rain Chris!! I can totally relate to how you feel and it sure is scary when it is that close to you!! How terrible for the young forest ranger volunteer, my heart breaks for his family :brokenheart:. Stay safe and hopefully you get the rain you so desperately need!

Oh no, the Livingston one actually is still burning, it never stopped but is contained in the center with the borders held ok so far. It really IS so scary and so sad that the forest ranger who died was only 18 years old. My friend's husband who's a firefighter got called out while i was there tonight but back fairly quickly. I drove home now with some drops falling but that was it, only drops. Take care, Chris. :heartpumppink:

Oh no, Chris. I haven't had time to see the news yet this morning. I'm praying you and yours will be safe. I remember what it was like having wild fires around here, so scary. ((( BIG HUGS )))

Please keep the good thoughts coming. We got "rain" overnight but it didn't amount to more than making my sidewalk a little damp.
This was posted by a wildlife rescue org that is asking for possible help relocating animals in case of an evacuation:

Where it says Hewitt is where I live, my house is 1/2 mile from the bottom tip of the lake. The Rescue is in blue. The fire-- in red (duh LOL!)
Please, please keep all of the firefighters, first responders, and community members in your thoughts too ♥

So scary for you locals please know I am thinking of you. When we were out near Yellowstone this summer they had some huge wildfires. Where we were in Cody WY they had a camp set up for the firefighters to rest. The helicopter was flying over with buckets of water and the air was filled with smoke depending on the wind direction. So sad for the wildlife.
Ladies please say safe, I'm doing a rain dance for you.

The news said that the East Coast was supposed to get a ton of rain and I was so hoping that your area would get drenched. I'm so sorry what rain you did get wasn't enough.

Being born and raised in California, I totally understand the fear of wildfires and the feeling of drought. Prayers!

I appreciate all of the good thoughts you have sent. Still no rain in the forecast until the 21st.
The one good thing is the fire is right next to Greenwood Lake so the helicopters have a plentiful water source nearby. I hear them non-stop overhead.
