Need reading input

I just finished some guilty pleasure reading...Heat Wave and Naked Heat...the tie in novels to the tv show Castle. I'm looking for another book sort of like it maybe. Strong female mystery-solvin' character. I thought about picking up where I've left off with Stephanie Plum. I also have always heard good things about Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta, and of course, I've heard lots about Sookie Stackhouse.

I'm a little torn. I'd like some input. :)

I'm terrible, I've been reading romances lately... like Debbie Macomber and Robyn Carr. I'm addicted to the Blossom Street series and the Virgin River series.

I also have the first books to two different mystery series related to crafting and knitting, I need to find them. I honestly haven't read anything since the beginning of October.

I really want to try this series:

Sara, i am a huge Stephanie Plum fan, and I love Sookie too. But I have ot admit if you are going for pure guilt pleasure- Stephanie all the way!

I would be reading and Gary would be watching TV in bed and I be laughing so hard I would have to read parts out to him.

Of course, being a Jersey girl makes all the more funny;)

You read the Hunger Games series too? That would be another good series, but its definitely not "light."

I agree...Stephanie Plum for mindless pleasure. I really did take a break from reading when I got home with Sydney. It was almost a year before I picked up a book and it was the first of the Stephanie Plum series! Oh my goodness...it was perfect because I could put it down whenever I needed to (like when my darling daughter would wake up because I had gotten out of her bed...another story for another day) and it was funny! Now, I never miss a Stephanie Plum novel and wonder why she can't get them written faster.

I love Sookie and Stephanie Plum has been on my list for a long time to try. I also like Kay Scarpetta a lot too, but those books are more intense than I have the energy for these days. For a lighter mystery series, have you ever read any of Diane Mott Davidson's books? They are culinary mysteries and Goldy the caterer is the main character. I like them - they talk about food a lot. hehe. But they do get really formulaic after a while.

I LOVE the PJ Sugar novels by Susan May Warren.
Disclaimer - she's a christian author....if that makes a difference...

They have the same humor as Stephanie Plum without the bleck....
I really like her "voice" as she writes these novels....

An author I enjoy is Laura Childs, both the Theo Browning tea shop mysteries and, of course, the scrapbooking mysteries set in New Orleans. My favorite mysteries though are forensic anthropology ones such as Jefferson Bass and Kathy Reichs (the "real" Temperance Brennan.)

A series that I've enjoyed that are mysteries with comedy and sweet recipes are the Joanne Fluke books.

She runs a bakery in a small town and there is always a murder surrounding some type of yummy bakery item.

Awww man!! Now you guys are ratcheting up my list!!

I have also read the Kiki Lowenstein ScrapNCraft Mysteries...those are guilty pleasure too.

I think I will get the next Stephanie Plum right now. But I'm putting some of these others on my list. Though I'm a little concerned what a culinary or bakery mystery might do to my diet!!

Oh I love Kay Scarpetta!! If you're open to something else, although it has a little spice added to it :biggrin1:, is the Highlander series by Karen Marie Moning. Don't think too much about how it's possible or not, just read.
All 8 books are pretty much to do with a woman living in the now, and for some reason they get plunged back into 1300-1500 Scotland etc. It's spicy romance novels you don't need to think about but juicy they are! :biggrin1:

Petra--Oh yeah!! I forgot about those books- I read three of them... maybe. I tried to read an offshoot, Sir John Grey or something like that and couldn't get into it. I should see if there are any others I have missed.

Petra - I love fantasy. It's probably my genre of choice. So I'm sure I'd love Highlander!! And spice is always good...

OK -- So I just finished reading "The Kings Gold"... the first book in the "Storm Syrell" series. It's kind of like National Treasure, but with a female lead. I really liked it, it had it's flaws, but I liked enough to order the sequel (The Black Madonna) instead of waiting for it on Paper Back Swap.

I just finished the New janet evanovick- Diesel is the main character and a girl Lizzy in Boston. Similar style to Stephanie Plum- very light, fun reading.

Adding that to my library request list!

Me too. I have just engulfed the next three Stephanie Plum's though. And I volunteered to be part of the committee that picks the nominees for our state children's choice awards. Ugh...lots of kid reading ahead!!
