My Facebook Account Got Hacked :(

Today a friend sent me a message telling me they got a fake friend request from me. I made the mistake of clicking on the link she sent and I think that is the way they got into my account. I had messaged her on Facebook and she said she had sent the message. I am not sure how else they would have gotten in. They set up two step verification using their information. Therefore I could not change my password as it kept sending them the code to reset it. Since I was still logged in, I was able to delete the account. I also had to delete the scrapbook layout page associated with me account. I have spent over six hours trying to save my old account, finally deleting it and then making a new account. I have slowly been trying to add my friends back to my account but Facebook will not let me add any more at this time but friends can send me requests. I have been bummed about it. :sad2:

Such stupid crap!
Nobody needs that kind of trouble!! Did you have any help with this? I would be completely lost! Don't get angry. The main thing is that the criminals couldn't get into your account to withdraw money! That would be a nightmare!

Thankfully, I had deleted the bank information previously. I had to delete my whole account plus my scrapbook page since it was linked. It was a nightmare. I was sure to set up two step verification on my new account.

Oh I hate to hear this. It's so sad how easy it is. My poor Dad was just scammed out of $2,000 because of an Amazon scam. I really hate social media these days. If I weren't so reliant on it for keeping in touch with family, I would get rid of it. Big hugs my friend.

It is sad to think there are so many crooked people out there.
Heartless, unfeeling, criminal. I'm sorry about your scrapbook page. I'm sure a lot of work and joy went into it. Apparently there's hardly any way to protect yourself from such criminals.

My goodness! This lazy rabble always manages to do it all over the world! I'm so sorry for your father, Laura! The "grandchild trick" is very popular here in Germany. My DH was also called on his cell phone by "his son". He asked my husband in a whiny voice to hand over a deposit of xxxx euros because he had run over someone and could only go home on bail! Imagine the impudence, the unbelievable callousness of these criminals! During the course of the conversation, DH calmed down and asked the supposed official when his son was born... the phone was hung up.

I'm so sorry you've had to deal with this, Evelyn. It's SO maddening and frustrating! That stinks that you had to delete your whole account! They should be able to assist us in a better way than just making us delete an account. It was nothing you did wrong, after all!! I'm liking social media less and less. I'm having issues with Instagram right now. Seems like ever since they became "Meta" stupid stuff like this is happening more and more. GRRRRRRR

They tried that with my FIL in the states. He was told his GS by name was in jail and needed bail. FIL said he got himself in jail he can get himself out. They hung up. we laugh but thankfully he knew better but I hate they prey on the older generation thinking they'll do anything for grandkids.

These criminals have no conscience! I hate it, too!

I hate to hear about what happened to your dad. These people have no conscience. It's terrible! I had a friend who lost her 16 year old daughter to cancer. Hackers took over her Facebook page that had so many photos of her daughter and then set up fake sales such as Play stations and Yorkie puppies. They would take money from people and then send them to Michelle's house to pick up the bogus stuff they bought. The people would get mad at Michelle because there were no puppies or Play Stations. She couldn't get her Facebook account back so she had to start a new one. I wanted to shut mine down once it was hacked because I didn't want the same thing happening to me.

Oh, Susanne! That is terrible! I'm so glad your husband was quick thinking and asked for his son's birthday! So many people fall for these scams!

You're so right! I hear of more and more people getting their accounts hacked. I tried for hours to find a way to keep my account and there was no way to keep it without risking them doing fraudulent activities on my account.

I am so glad your FIL was so witty and had the perfect come back!

Jen, it sounds like you have two step verifications on your accounts which is great. That will keep your accounts secure. I made the mistake of not doing that.

I'm so sorry to hear this, Evelyn! My sister's Facebook account used to get hacked all the time. She has an aol email account and I heard that used to be one of the least secure systems. The two-step verification is so annoying at first but when you consider the alternatives.....

I also have some relatives and friends who are always sharing the cute animal posts, or inspirational/religious posts, or whatever. Doing that can open the door for hackers to get into your account. If you see a post you'd like to share you should always check the profile of the original poster--sometimes the profile was just created the day before, or there are no other posts, and that's a huge red flag.

Take all of that evil intelligence and use it for good, maybe we could find a cure for cancer. Part of the reason I don't use FB anymore than Messenger to keep up with a few people. 4 of my 5 sils share links to this that and the next thing. I've lost track of how many times one of them has been hacked.

I remember years ago I was on Vinnie Pearce's CT, she lives in New Zealand. One morning when I turned on the computer there was a message from Vinnie asking if I was alright and where the heck was I???? I'm like :thinking2::wow2: what???!!! When I saw my FB post, I had supposedly gone on a holiday to some island and had been robbed and was asking for my friends to send me money! :lol23::lol23: Luckily another friend of mine, who I had lunch with the day before, posted a comment saying not to believe it as I was not on holiday at all and to not send any money to anyone!! haha! Thanks goodness for her!!! I changed my password, deleted the post and reported it to FB but of course they did not reply!!

So now you know, if you get a FB message to ask you to send me some money........... don't!!! :lol23::lol23:

Evelyn, I currently have a friend request on FB from you? is it safe to accept, is that really you? just thought I would check first. :)
