May Art Journaling Challenge Week 1

I solemnly swear I am up to no good!
CHEERY O
Welcome to our May Art Journaling Challenge - and our topic we will be delving into is the prompt RENEW.

Select a word that represents renewal and transformation. Use your art journal to convey a sense of renewal, perhaps through images of butterflies, fresh starts, or rejuvenating landscapes. There are so many ways you can take this word. I am choosing to focus in on the positive aspects of renewing our commitment to ourselves and our health - physical, spiritual, and mental.

Here are some quotes I found while surfing the web:
"Every day is a renewal, every morning the daily miracle. This joy you feel is life." -- Gertrude Stein

"Every single cell in the human body replaces itself over a period of seven years. That means there's not even the smallest part of you now that was part of you seven years ago." -- Steven Hall

"Hope is not pretending that troubles don't exist. It is the trust that they will not last forever, that hurts will be healed and difficulties overcome. It is faith that a source of strength and renewal lies within to lead us through the dark into the sunshine." -- Liz Chase

"Renewal requires opening yourself up to new ways of thinking and feeling." --
Deborah Day

"Transitions are a part of life, allowing for perpetual renewal. When you experience the end of one chapter, allow yourself to feel the emotions of loss and rebirth. A bud gives way to a new flower, which surrenders to the fruit, which gives rise to a seed, which yields a new sprout. Even as you ride the roller coaster, embrace the centered internal reference of the ever-present witness." -- David Simon

You can choose to do a single page each week, or do a divided template - one part for each week. If you don't have the Divided Template and would like to have it, you can get it here at Dropbox. Thank you to Ona @wombat146 for providing the template choices for us! If you do the template, we would love it if you would post it incrementally. Post one done in the first week, post an image of the two together on the second, and three on the third, and then the finished page on the fourth week.

Again - the template is NEVER a requirement to use, just something fun and different if you want to use it.

Everyone who participates in any of this month's challenges will be entered into a drawing for a $5 gift certificate to Oscraps. You can receive up to four entries into this month's drawing.

I can't wait to see what you have to share about the prompt RENEW.

Challenge Rules:
You have until 11:59 p.m. ET on May 31st to complete your pages for this challenge.
  1. To qualify for the drawing, you need to use 80% Oscraps products that are currently in the store (non-Oscraps products or retired O designer products can be used whether the designer is selling elsewhere or not).
  2. You need to credit all the products used on your page.
  3. You cannot use a page you create for this challenge for another Oscraps challenge.
  4. Upload your page to the Art Journal Gallery and then add your layout to the challenge thread. (Below you will find instructions on adding your page to this thread.)
Adding a linked layout from the Gallery to a thread:

Upload your layout to the gallery first. In your forum post click the Gallery Embed icon (little camera).

This will open your gallery, simply click on the layout you require, then scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click the Continue button.

Your linked layout is now in your post, the image will appear once you have clicked the Post Reply button.

I have done one AJ project in my life. I am totally intimidated by all these beautiful layouts. I'm totally stumped with renewing. I love the inspiration board. Oh man...... where too start. But I am going to start. :heartpumpred:

Tracy perhaps just start small and use one of those templates I created, like Anne-Marie above. Each section (week) do not have to match up with the rest, each can be a mini layout on their own. Also, browse through the art journaling gallery to see what style of art journaling 'speaks to you' as well and perhaps use it to give you some inspiration. :) I am going to use the template and going to start it today, thinking of the word 'renewing', for me, it makes me think about how doing the 100 day challenge has renewed my interest and passion in creating physical art in my art journal. :)

Alright. I didn't see your comment @wombat146 Ona until after I played. The one time I did AJ I was told to "feel" and that is what I did with this one. All credit are in gallery posting. With practice I will get better at this. Its way less crowded then my first ever AJ and so that is a start to getting better LOL
yay! that is awesome Tracy! So happy you had a go at creating an AJ page, love it! ♥ While art journaling can be about feeling, it's also about art, simply telling a story through art itself that is meaningful to YOU! It does not need to make to sense to anyone else!! :) Just have fun and go in whatever direction you want to. :)

Curious, since y'all started something here :floorlaugh: I think I read that we can do as many layouts as we want but it only counts as one entry into the drawing, correct? Cause now that I've unleashed this beast I have more ideas that fit renew and I dont know if they can wait for next week cause they might not fit the feel. Oh dear someone stop me my minds spinning with ideas and who knows what will happen.

You can get one entry per layout up to four entries per month. If you go with the template, you get one entry per part of the template completef.
