Looking for something to keep my brain from turning into total mush!

Please help me and my family. We have been saying often that our brains are disintegrating. We are thinking that we need to do something either individually or as a family to learn new things. One thing that I keep reading.seeing advertised is The Great Courses.

That seems really neat but also since no one in the family has a job at the moment, it is (waaaay) out of our price range.

I am looking for something like that- but for free. It has to have some sense of structure to it so I can follow it easily. If there are online questions or discussion guides that would be even better. If there isn't, I will "read" the info and not pay any attention to it. Which would further my brain mushiness.

Are there any course like that out there? Or any other similar ideas or suggestions for us?

TIA!

Oh good grief! There's always somebody trying to make a buck. Now, off of Covid. Have you tried just searching on the internet for whatever you're interested in? There's a wealth of information out there. Also, look on Amazon. I decided I wanted to try to read Cherokee and there are actually sites that teach it for FREE. I got a workbook from Amazon on not only learning the symbols, but there are practice pages. It's like when I wanted to teach myself Calligraphy. I bought a book with practice sheets in it. I'm convinced that whatever you'd like to learn is "out there" and you don't have to pay a ridiculous amount of money.

Cherokee- that is something neat to learn! I have listened to the pocast "This Land" by Rebecca Nagle who is a Cherokee Citizen. She is learning to speak that too as it is a disappearing language. Good luck!!

Diane- thank you for that link- that is a great resource.
A new language, hmm. I took three years of HS French, but there isn;t much use for that. ASL might the a really helpful idea. My best friend from my early childhood's brother was deaf and I talked a bit to him with that. I still know a (very) few words bt that might a great idea.

Ohhhhhh, I'll have to find that podcast! If you think of it, shoot me the link. It is a dying language and the Cherokee are trying valiantly to keep it from that. Even a lot Cherokee (the younger ones) can't speak it. I'd love to at least be able to read it. It's symbols - I studied Chinese Calligraphy too and although that's way more complicated, it reminds me a little of that. When you break down Chinese symbols, they all have a meaning. Very interesting!

Here's the link to the podcast- LMK what you think if you listen to it.

I listened to the final/updated episode yesterday after the Supreme Ct decision came down. It was fascinating and illuminating
Pretty cool about the Chinese characters too- I would be interested in that!

Jeanette- thanks for the link as well. Now I need to sit down and pick something to learn ;)
