I need PSE help!

I'm using PSE 2023. I had this problem a while ago, but it's back. For some odd reason, I'm now getting "Grayscale" instead of "RGB Color". When I "pull" anything from a kit, or a photograph, it's grayscale. It's making me crazy and I'm not sure how to fix it. I've gone into preferences, but it just isn't resetting.

Anybody else, who uses PSE, having this problem????? Here are screenshots. I'm using this color photo and when I "pull" it up onto the canvas, it turns to grayscale.

Cheryl, I have the same version. Let me look around in the settings and see if I can find anything out for you.

I use photoshop, but I know under the dropdown menu for images there is a color setting where you can go in and pick grayscale, 8 bit color etc, but Vicki will be able to give you the help you need.

Cheryl,
When you open a photo/etc and go to Image>Mode, is RGB color checked? If not, check it. Then bring in another photo to see if it stays checked.

Thanks, Jeanne. It just started doing this and it's so frustrating.

Vicky, it's SO weird - it shows that RGB Color is checked, then when I "pull" it onto my canvas, it's grayscale. There has to be a glitch. I'll try what you suggested, but I didn't change anything.

What happens if you right-click and "open with"? Does it open in gray scale that way too?

Amy @mimes1 I think that fixed it - I'm not holding my breath, but I just went to do two screenshots, and the second one (when I pulled the image onto the canvas) was in COLOR!!!

I use PScc. This isn't about color, but sometimes when I drag a photo for instance onto my workspace, it opens teeny tiny and unusable. If I right click and "open with" photoshop, it opens just fine.
These programs are looney tunes sometimes, I swear. This just started happening and I don't have time for this. "Ain't nobody got time for this". :floorlaugh::floorlaugh::floorlaugh:

Cheryl, in some cases it might not be your pc or program at all but the product itself. Like Amy mentioned above, when dragging a file into PS for instance it doesn't behave like it should. I have found that on a few occasions its to do with the file itself. I always just drag my stuff into PS from the File Explorer and in some instances, it just doesn't appear at all!! So I use the Open with.... options. Other times I will drag the item and it won't open in my open PSD file BUT, if I drag it in as a new file it appears, then I can drag the layer into the open PSD file. Go figure! :homer:

Suggestion, make a note of the kit and designer somewhere......... then try another kit by the same designer, does it work? It could well have something to do in how the designer saved the file and also the program they use as well as the operating system itself (ie, Mac or Windows). So a lot of things can happen with a file between the saving of it by one person and the opening of it by another person on an entirely different computer. I have a little notepad next to my pc that I write that stuff down in so I can refer back to it if need me. :)
