I just don't understand ...

I posted a freebie in the So Happy thread yesterday and although there have been 24 "views" of the post, not one person has commented - even to say "thank you". But there have been lots of downloads, so I know forum members are getting the freebie.

As I look through the list of freebies posted by our designers — and there are lots of them — it's the same thing. Some freebies have over 1500 views and only a couple of comments.

Please help me understand why our members are not taking the time to say "thank you". Is it really too much to ask?

Designers are taking the time to create something for our members, but no one seems to care. I'm so depressed about this and I'm sure other designers are too.

No, it's not much to ask. You have wonderful freebies, I know, I'm subscribed for your newsleter. And you deserve one BIG thank you!!!

This is very interesting question, as I don't left thank you notes too. I'm not sure why. I know in some cultures have tradition to send thank you cards when you receive gift, but we don't have it.
I guess when you used some freebie this shows your appreciation. Now you definitely made me think.

I understand your disappointment very well Vicki.
It is only a small effort, but I have the feeling that everything goes like this nowadays, people want a lot and preferably all for free and think it is normal that it is all done, but a word of thanks is too much to ask

I am always grateful for your newsleeter freebies. If I haven't thanked you or any of the designers (and I am sure that I haven't...)- please accept my apologies and know how much I appreciate all of your generosity and kindness xo

Thanks for your replies ladies. I appreciate that you took the time to do that.

I don’t really expect a thank you for my newsletter or challenge freebies any more — although I’m always happy when a someone does take the time and I always thane the time to reply to them. It’s rare (except for challenges — participants are good about thanking and using them altho most that download don’t participate) to see my freebies used on pages. Makes you wonder what people do with them.

But I like to think of the O forum as a community where we support each other and share. But when I see all of our talented designers taking time to make a freebie for our members but get not even the slightest sign of appreciation in return, it feels demoralizing.

Look at the list of freebies in the “so happy” section of the forum — there are tons and tons. Then look at the number of views and replies on the right side of the list. It’s shocking to me that’s people can’t be bothered with even the tiniest amount of common courtesy. If someone stood in front of you and handed you a present I am 100% percent certain you would say - almost automatically - “thank you”. You wouldn’t take the gift and turn around and walk away and imagine how you’d feel if someone actually did that. I don’t understand how this is different.

sorry .... Maybe the stress of the lockdown is starting to get to me

No Vicki i don't think it is because of the lockdown, because i would react the same as you .
I think there are a lot of people going through all kinds of forums looking for freebies, i don't know.
I never did that myself or very little (can't remember it actually, maybe because i don't have that much time to search everything for freebies)
But i certainly understand your displeasure!

I love your freebies Vicki and if I haven't commented than I am truly :sorry: I think that Vera is right, everyone expects things in life for free all the time and they are not appreciative when they get them. We are a bunch of spoiled brats aren't we!!

Also there is people who pretend that they makes gifts just because they like it, and answer things as "No problem", "Be my guest", "Oh it's nothing!", like your thanks are unnecessary for them.
I respect people who admit that makes gifts not simply because of act of giving, but because wants other to like them and show appreciations. Most often generosity is selfish in its heart, I'm pretty sure in that!
It really makes me happy when someone answer me on "Thank you" with "It's my pleasure" or "You're welcome" :brushteeth: !

Now, Trudy! NO need to apologize ...lol! I'm truly trying to understand why our efforts seem to go unnoticed by so many.

I try to respond to everyone that thanks me for something ... it just seems the right thing to do.

I'm sure you're right and there are people who have ulterior motives in their gift-giving. After all, designers freebies/gifts are samples of our work and we are hoping to entice people to buy — but does that mean there it's not necessary to be polite? I find it all very confusing.

I didn't start this discussion because I want the attention though. I'm truly trying to wrap my head around this issue. It seems to be a problem where digi freebies are offered and I just don't understand it. I don't really have expectations that anything will change

I know that must be so hurtful and frustrating. You make me want to take extra care and thank everyone for their sacrificial & kind gifts. Thank you for the reminder, Vicki!

Well, that's so sweet of you. I'm sure all designers will appreciate any small token!

I honestly don't know the answer, Vicki. I'm on vacation and just popped in, but I think it was the lovely tag that you're referring to. I can see that it's bothering you and I wish I had words of wisdom for you.

I really think that everybody is so busy and has so much on their minds right now with all the crazy stuff going on - maybe that's why. I had somebody tell me this just a couple of days ago and I believe it's true. That's no excuse, but it's all I can come up with right now.

Hugs
