Hunger Games

I just posted in Sara's Reading thread, and that reminded me-- The Hunger Games is going to be a movie. I kept thinking how amazing it would be as a movie, so I googled for it, and it is going into production in 2011.

How cool!

The only downside is that some of the sites are saying that Kristen Stewart might be Katniss. If that is the case, I refuse to see it. She is a horrible actor and would make an even more horrible Katniss.

WHo could you see as characters?

Hmmm ... interesting. I guess they are trying to bank on her "Twilight" fame. Who did they say will play Peeta?

ME- there were a lot of names being tossed around that i didn't recognize.
Someone thought Hugh Laurie as Haymitch. In my head, Haymitch was stockier, but I could def. see laurie being a good drunk haymitch!

Oh gosh....please not Kristen Stewart....BLECK.... and if they make that Robert Patterson Peta... I'll boycott...

I think Hugh Laurie would be a GREAT Haymitch.....

Ok, hot "tween" actors right now...for Katniss (not that I'm voting for ANY)
...Miley Cyrus
...Demi Lovato

they would be better going with an unknown...

LOL! I agree...I saw Haymitch has more rotund, but Hugh Laurie would be EXCELLENT... Though someone also listed Jack Black which I think could be very interesting if he doesn't overdo it.

Katniss - Hmmmm...I think an Unknown would be good too probably. Someone with whom we have no preconceived notions. It will be interesting!

I just googled again- and read this....
But the more I think about it, the more it seems like a Hunger Games movie will inevitably miss the point. First of all, you won't be able to get inside Katniss' head and see how every time she shows emotion, she's inwardly calculating exactly what to show, in order to win over the viewers. (And after a while, she can't even tell what she's really feeling, because she's so busy putting on a performance.) On the movie screen, we'll be as taken in by her performance as those viewers, without any of the undercurrent.
The author has a point- part of the intensity of the books is the mind games, the emotion. How do you portray that? Definitely need a much better actor than kristen Stewart.

heres a link on the casting possibilities

Voice overs might do some good.

Certainly the inner angst is going to be missing though. Think about the end of the series...how could you even begin to portray all that?

Sara have you seen the new Harry potter movie yet? I haven't but I would imagine it is kind of similar. All of the thoughts and decisions made by Harry, the Horcrux influencing him and Hermoine. It would be interesting to see how that is shown on screen. That technique might work for this too.

And yes- that last book, Mockingjay- how intense..... especially the end.
