How will you be bringing in the new year?

How's everyone planning on bringing in the New Year tomorrow night? We do a big get together here every year so I spent my morning planning out the menu for that and tomorrow I'll be cooking the biggest part of the day. I never know how many are going to show up because we invite everyone we love and it's a big party till right after the ball drops! Today I'll be cleaning up in the house and maybe I'll go ahead and fix the cookies today to save some of the cooking from tomorrow. Brent always fusses because I cook so much but it's almost always all gone and I'd rather have too much than too little. I will have five crock pots going tomorrow with a couple of desserts and some appetizers too! :der:

This year it will be the first time for us in 27j final that we celebrate alone. That happens when your kids become teenagers.
So i think we will have a quit night. We always did gourmet, but with just the two of us, we keep it simple with some snacks and drinks (champagne).

Wish you were just a little closer we'd come. I think we are either going to a friend's or going to First Night in Raleigh.

It sounds like several of the family will be coming here ( at my dad's house) we'll be with 15 altogether but out here you never know who else might turn up.
There will be some snacks , oliebollen , a drink or 2 and we'll watch the fireworks outside without spending a single penny ourselves.
They 've been lighting fireworks for several days now which turns me into a grumpy old woman. Such a waste of money going up in the air.:boom:

Last year we had a big family party - but this year, it's just us, my in-laws and my brother-in-law. So 8 in total. We'll be having a turkey dinner, watch some tv, play card and board games - and then at midnight we'll be blasting off some fireworks with the rest of the country. Last year I missed the fireworks because my youngest was so afraid of all the noise, but this year I'm determined to enjoy them and get at least one good fireworks photo LOL I've already made a deal with my father-in-law that he'll keep my youngest company inside if he's afraid again :)

We celebrate old-new always with our neighbors, together 6 persons. And at midnight we walk to the highest point of the village, which is situated in a nature reserve and there we drink a glass of champagne and watch the fireworks from all the villages around us.

Clara I'm right on the border of NC but still a few hours from you or I'd tell you to come on up and enjoy the evening with us! The guys are always good for a laugh :biggrin1:

ummm - just me home, maybe watching on tv, likely getting to bed early. My husband is going to be away. Maybe I will have the basement clean up guy here- but if so, he won't be here till midnight, I am sure!

I cannot bring myself to spend the money on fireworks. The good ones are sooooo expensive and then your money literally goes up in smoke...BUT I sure am glad other people do because I love to watch them.

Andrea - yeah. You live a few hours away but maybe one of these days we'll meet up in Raleigh or someplace north of here...any chance to get out if Fayetteville works for me. :)

We've never been big celebraters. :) My brother-in-law's birthday is New Year's Eve, so many times, they have a party. We used to be the party poopers who left by 10 or 11, but the cop side of my husband also didn't handle watching people get wasted and be stupid well either. :) Now that everyone is older and has kids, it's a much calmer, low key party. Last year, I think we put Ben to bed and watched Big Bang Theory reruns until it was midnight. This year will be even more low key as the brother-in-law and sister-in-law just had a baby on the 23rd. I think they were a bit crazy because they hung out with family on the 24th and 25th. She even said yesterday that they had yet to spend a whole day at home since the baby was born. (Nutso people!!) We were going to go out to lunch as a family, but then people had to work...la la la.... So that was moved to Friday night. We probably will stay home; it's going to be cold and snowy tomorrow night. But if we dare to venture out, the city does a huge fireworks event downtown at 7 p.m. So we'd sit in a warm car with hot chocolate and watch it, but that's assuming we can find somewhere to park.

I'm a bit more excited to New Year's Day. We are having just a few people over to watch our bowl game and have Bloody Mary's and what not. :) Woo-hoo!

I think I am the only one who never liked New Year's. Even as a kid I thought it was a silly concept. As a teen, (I mean over 21, of course!) it was a good excuse to go out and get wasted. Now I am too old and tired to do that!!

I used to be all hopeful that the close of each year would bring in a better year, but "better years" have been kinda scarce in my house the last few LOL

Both of my kids will be at parties with their Significant Others but will be off of the roads. Gary and I are heading over to our neighbor's house as we did the last few years. I doubt that I will make it to midnight. I have to work today, then take the kids down to the mall to meet my godson for portraits (45 mins away, why do I live so FAR from everything!!), then driving Scott to GF's house-- 35 mins from mall) and then home (another 45 mins). I hate being so tired all the time.... but the good thing about tonight is that its not a big deal of I only hang out for an hour and then walk home.

We just celebrate "in family" like every year... I'm always surprised that my kids love New year's Eve (here in Germany we say "Silvester") so much, because I never was too fond of it... but they love the fireworks, the great food, and of course the freedom to stay up until long after midnight.
We have Raclette on December 31st (everybody has a little pan and can arrange his own food the way he wants, cheese topping, ready), a little firework later, and we usually watch a movie. Mom's crying because she wants to be in Brisbane so much (HEEEEEAAAAATTTT.... I need it), but the rest of the family thinks 2°C is perfectly fine.... meh.

Years ago we went to DH's aunt's, played cards, stayed overnight to avoid crazy drivers, and had her wonderful cooking for New Year's dinner. It was always so nice.

These days we get our annual quota of alcohol by splitting a split of champagne and watching the ball drop on TV. Pretty tame! On New Year's day we like to go out birding to start a new list of birds seen for the year.

We are rather boring and just stay at home for New Year's Eve. Hubby offered to take me out to dinner, but I thought it would be better to just stay home and have a couple of nice steaks on the BBQ along with some scallops :hungry: Then we will spend the night snuggled on the couch watching a good movie with a couple of glasses of wine. My hubby makes the best wine ever and so no need to head to the liquor store to purchase expensive wine or champagne. We used to be big partiers but those days are behind us and all of our friends are about a boring as we are now :becky: Too much of an expense and we are waaayy too tired to stay out all night long. So not too much excitement happening here!!

One of my dogs is scared for fireworks, The favorite pastime for kids in my neighborhood love t. He doesn't want to leave the house. So I have to stay home. I watch some television eat some snacks and that is it.
As a kid I loved "oud en nieuw" because you stay awake until 1,00 am and I love fireworks

Nothing special for me either. I will be quietly celebrating with my sister. Her kids are celebrating on their own with friends and sleeping there, so she's arriving in a couple of hours and will stay for the night.
Wine and dinner are ready, just have to pick a good film and we're almost done!

Have a nice evening everyone :)
