Oscraps

Hi from sunny AZ

Hello, my name is Jamie. Here are the basics: I'm 26; got married a year and a half ago; just finished remodeling our first house; I am officially converting from "old school" scraping to digital...and have no clue where to start!

Any suggestions? I have PhotoImpact Pro, but am thinking about getting PSE 8 because that seems to be what everyone else is using?

Thanks in advance and I'm so happy to be here!

Hi, Welcome to Oscraps!

I don't know your program, so can't help you there.
I guess the best way to start is get some freebies from the shop and see what you can do with it in your program. Just play!

If you want to try PSE 8 you can get it for a trial period at Adobe!

I can see your picture, you set it as your profile picture, if you want it to show up in the forum, just upload it as your avatar! (user cp page)

Hi and welcome!!!

If your profile pic isn't showing up- it could be too large- double check the size and see if that helps.

As for software, I go between ACDSee Photo Editor and CS2. But I always recommend Photo Editor for beginners. I find it to be easier to use that PSE, its cheaper- always nice- and still has a lot of great functions. acdsee.com has free trials.

Welcome to the O! You've been given lots of great advice so far. I don't want to give you too much and overwhelm you. But don't worry, while the learning curve is sometimes steep, it is also fast...and before you know it, you'll be scrapping pages in minutes! Its definitely addictive!

Welcome to Oscraps Jamie! You've come to the right place to start. There are so many helpful girls here! Can't wait to see what you'll make :D

Oh Jamie!!! Welcome ot the O!! We are always hanging around here and LOVE TO HELP!!! So ask any questions and someone will have an answer or find one for you!!!

Hi Jamie and welcome to the O!!! I made the switch to digi in July '08 and have never looked back!!! If you need a hand with anything please, just holler!!! There is a thread here https://ozone.oscraps.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=20 that may be of use, it has several questions/answers that members have posted. I use Elements 8 and totally LOVE it but it might help to download a couple of programs for a trial first and see what you like. So nice to have you here!! :)

Hi Jamie!!

I started out with a free program called GIMP, but found it was easier to give in and get Elements. So many tutorials and files, etc. that are Photoshop based...it just was easier for me to learn in the long run. Some sites even have beginner classes for learning how to digital scrap on different programs. (Not that I want you to leave the O, we have a lot of great tutorials here.) But hopefully, you can find something that fits! =)

Welcome!

Thank you all for your welcome's and replies!

I think I have decided to just start the "right" way and get Elements 8, which I have been looking on ebay for. While I was browsing ebay, I came across this: "ADOBE PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 8 VIDEO TRAINING 3 DVD" by Keyko Training. If anybody who knows Elements 8 pretty good and can take a look at the listing and let me know if it's worth it I would REALLY appreciate it!! I know there are quite a few tutorials online, but they seem more technique specific being a beginner-beginner it's hard for me to figure out all the steps they did to get where the tutorial starts!!

Thanks for your help!

Jessica Sprague of sprague.com has awesome workshops and a free one too! I use pse5 and fotofusion. You can also find all sorts of video tut's on youtube! I love the video tutorials are the best way for me to learn.

Go Digital Scrapbooking has online beginning classes too. I think Scrap Girls does too. I took the intermediate class at GDS and enjoyed it. Any one of those three places would be good. Jessica Sprague's stuff is amazing. I've also recommended these books to all my friends who are interested in starting:

Better Homes and Gardens Ultimate Guide to Digital Scrapbooking - http://bit.ly/62NhEy
Computer Tricks for Scrapbookers - http://bit.ly/4mKRdY

There is a second edition on these both, but I think the first editions are much better for beginners. Maybe you can get those on eBay or used on Amazon.
