I'm a new CT member for Ronee and would love to get to know everyone, and be known!

So.......

I'm Michele (aka Chele). I live in Temecula, CA - which is a little big city an hour straight north of San Diego. I'm a single mom to two teens: Keegan (my daughter) who will be 18 in January *YIKES* and Brendan, my son, who will be 14 in December. I adore them and love spending time with them. I'm lucky that they like to spend time with me, too! Very Happy

I teach 5th grade. This is my 22nd year. Wow.

Besides Digiscrapping, I'm wrapped up in my MA in Humanities program, but taking this term off to get my daughter's college applications together, etc.

So, what else do you want to know? I love answering questions (I'm a TEACHER, silly!)

Chele :)

Hey Chele! and welcome to Oscraps!!!

so... I wanna know... how do you get a 15 yr old and a 17 yr old to still want to spend time with mom? LOL! You must be one cool mom!

Hi, Vicki... and THANKS for the welcome!

As for your question, welll.... I don't really know. :D

I do go to ALL of their events, so they've "learned," I guess, that I'm gonna be there no matter what. If they don't like it, they have to deal. :D

I get to know their friends. I drive them and their friends places they need to go. I stay on top of the "gossip" by taking these road trips: teens talk in cars. ;)

I think it also helps that dd's boyfriend's parents and I are good friends and we like to hang out together. Most of the time we drag the kids along. We even have been on vacations together (Lake Mead/Laughlin, Vegas, etc.)

We play games together. We share a love of tennis together. Neither is particularly "crafty" like I am, but Keegan (DD) has shown an interest in digiscrapping and has done a couple of school projects using digi stuff.

Perhaps it stems from us being a "mom-only" family, and we've truly developed a sense of *TEAM*.

Have I rambled enough?

I think you hit the nail on the head... being involved and being there!!!

Good for you!!!!!!! That is so hard for a lot of parents and to do it as a single mom - well... I applaud you!

*insert cool clapping smiley here since I don't know where to find good ones*

Hi all!

And thanks for the welcome!

I wanted to add that Lucreceb ;) I LOVE your stuff. I *almost* applied for your CT call, but I don't think I'm badass enough.

Heehee. Reminds me of Christina Aguilera's new-ish song.

Just peeking in from work. Off to the copy machine I go.

Hi there and welcome!

Any ideas on how to make a 10 yo boy keep his desk and homework more organized? *eye roll*

Can't wait to get to know you better on the CT team.

YES!

This works great for underorganized ;) kids:

Get him a two-pocket folder. No binder with dividers, etc., that's much too overwhelming for someone with organizational issues. The folder is to become his best friend, his buddy, his pal. Wherever he goes, it goes.

On the pocket on the left write "NOT COMPLETE" and on the pocket on the right write "COMPLETE".

ANY paper that he gets goes into the folder. PERIOD. If it's to be worked on, or to be given to you, it goes into the left pocket. If it's done, it goes on the right. That's all he should need in his desk, in his backpack, at home - besides any books.

I hope it works for you/helps. It has helped LOTS of kids over the years, especially boys... and believe me - I HAVE one. ;)

Hey Chele I think you need an Ask Chele forum all to yourself!!! lol

and btw, I'm thinking your folder plan might work for me ahahahhahahaha. But, um, what am I supposed to do with the stuff in the complete pocket?

I think you're insinuating that I'm the aged wise one. ;) Well, I am probably one of the eldest digiscrappers around. Ya'll are so young.

As for your *completed* pocket, I think you should just give it all to Ronee.

That's my job -- to get her more work, right?

Chele :D

Buhahhahaha!!! Poor Ronee!

He is required to have a binder, and folders, and a planner and everything else that makes his backpack weigh more than me.... but what I think I will do, is use your idea to keep all of his *loose papers that he tends to shove in his backpack never to be seen again at least not in some recognizable fashion* in. Thanks!

Hi Chele

Another one of ronee's crew. I am lapetite aka jongleuse and really Katey. I am a SAHM, though self employed in relocation assistance with partner, 2 boys 11 and 14 and we live in France, though English by birth.

I am an older scrapper, but refuse to say just how much over 40!! Still 26 in my head though. Hopefully we will all be chatting away and viewing LO's!!

See, now, that bugs me. Why would teacher *require* a child to use an organizational system that doesn't work for him.

Grrrr.

I'm busy for one evening and ya'll are adding to my to do list?

You know what though, my husband teases me for how organized I am. I'm always saying I have to get organized, and he's like, um what are you doing with all the binders with separate pockets and customized file tabs if that's not organized? LOL!

I did have trouble when I was a kid though because the way the school made us do things was not the way it worked in my head. Chris, that sucks that his school makes him do that. I would honestly (and this is just me) tell the teacher that he's not going to do it their way, that you and he have chosen a way that works for you. But I should warn you I'm kind of an anarchist, ahem....

And Katey, you can be 26 if you want to girl!

Hi Chele,
Nice to meet you!

Sometimes I feel mature too - here amongst these ladies with little ones. (I'm 40 with a 17 yr old who has a boyfriend & a job). And mine will be graduating in the spring too.

Congrats on your CT position. I've just joined PDW's CT (Vicki sells over there - and she's just awesome).

I'll be 45 in December and my daughter will be 18 in January!! Eeek! But, she's very level-headed and mature, so there are no worries there.

Keegan also has a boyfriend - they've been best friends and "together" for more than 4 years. They're at Knott's Scary Farm tonight with a bunch of their friends. They're an awesome group of kids. Pretty much all of my layouts feature them. :D

No *paying* job for my girl, although she does some piece work for a friend of ours who own their own insurance group. She also babysits, but carries 4 AP courses, plays tennis, is editor of the school newspaper, is a student athletic trainer, is involved in CSF and NHS, and is President of the *Red Wave* - the student booster group. She has enough on her plate.

I'm glad my son will be entering high school next year, because I'd miss all of the fun!

I'm glad that you're so shy & reserved like me Chele! :D We can be the 40 something group.

My daughter works as a certified nurse's aide & I'm so proud of her - that's hard work & requires a lot of patience! Mine is way mature too (having had diabetes since she was 9 - she injects 3-5 times per day + watches what she eats. I'm not sure how well I would handle that). She is also on the yearbook staff this year. And funny! my lo's feature her too ... and can be seen here at DST

For my day job, I supervise 7 library sites & do admin stuff with the staff involved as well as public relations, etc. I love it! As you'll agree, I'm sure - reading is important!

Very nice to meet you!
