Getting to Know You: What's your favorite holiday?

We are entering the time of year when we have so many holidays within a few short months. Do you have a favorite holiday? How do you celebrate it, with lots of family and friends or in a smaller gathering? What food do you eat?

My favorite holidays are Christmas and Halloween. I love Halloween because I adore all things spooky. My house is full of skulls and pumpkins and ghosts right now. Gary decorates the yard and we end up having people stop and take pictures of it. The first one came by last night. But I think Christmas is my favorite because I love giving presents to my family. I usually make a lot of gifts and while that can be stressful trying to finish them on time, it is also really satisfying to give something so meaningful.

I can't wait to hear about your favorite holiday!

I'd have to say Christmas; partly because of all the imagery, traditions, etc., but also because that is the one time of the year that my rather large family really tries to come together.

It must have been so hard on all of you last year not being able to be together. Will you be able to do that this year?

I also love Christmas! Love to decorate the tree/trees and the front porch! Not sure what it will be like this Christmas though, hopefully our son and family will be able to join us. Sure different from a few years back when we had a total of 12 for Christmas and all stayed for 3 days!! The house was full !!

Well it's not a holiday for others, but it has to be Mardi Gras time for us (Feb-April time frame) depending on when Easter falls. That means usually warmer weather because January is one of our coldest and worst weather months. It also means crawfish boils, beginning of seafood season, festivals, music, food and fun. Lots of family gatherings that pop up for months. It is the time when we see the friends together in a casual setting whom you may not see for months. Thanksgiving and Christmas are usually too high family stress and I don't enjoy the drama that comes with them! With my mother in law home after 2 years away and my BIL moved here, the holiday season will be a real mess I fear. Based on the events of the summer, it will be interesting for sure!!! lol

I'm with you. My favs are Halloween and Christmas. At Halloween, I loved handing out candy to trick or treaters before I moved to Florida. Here, I live in an area that is less developed and not a lot of small kids trick or treating. I also love Halloween decorations. I just love everything about Christmas. I love putting decorations on my lawn. I love doing the Salvation Army angel tree. I love finding the right gift for others. I also love the religious meaning behind the holiday.

Christmas - because it's a time for family and just to relax and see each other (even though it can be stressful). Halloween is a close second!!!

Thanksgiving is my fave. Since I will be "un"available this year for a big celebration, having just transplanted my dad to my home, my friends and I had a large Thanksgiving celebration, with all the favorites, a couple of weeks ago, on a Sunday. I'm so thankful for friends who think ahead and make things happen, even during stressful times.. When I was near family, Christmas was my favorite. Now, with one daughter & family in Florida and one in NYC, its hard to all come together. It gets kinda lonely here on holidays.
