Everything Everywhere All at Once: A Movie Rec

Last night, my hubby and I watched Everything Everywhere All at Once and we both loved it. It is on Netflix only until August 22 so if you have Netflix, watch it if you can.
I had added this to a Want to Watch list a while ago and when DH asked me about it, I couldn't remember why I did. We figured, sure why not? It was either this movie or yet another NCIS or whatever else we are watching.
I can't really describe it and it doesn't fit into any specific genre. It's got a bit of sci-fi, a lot of action, all sorts of comedy, some family drama all mashed together. And somehow- it works. That acting is incredible and the choreography was literally jaw-dropping to watch. And yet, there were some really heartfelt and touching moments.
if you are bored with everything that's on TV, give this one a try. You won't be bored, I promise!

Thank you!! I have been wanting to see this, but we cancelled Netflix a few months ago, so like Cheryl, I am hoping it will end up on one of the ones I have...Hulu, Peacock, Prime...and Tubi has a lot of great movies, too!! I was able to watch Aqua Man on there with the hot Jason Momoa

If it shows up on another streaming service, definitely check it out. And don't be concerned with the run time (over 2 hours) it goes by fast!

Well, it DID win a ton of Oscars.......

I watched it some time ago on one of the streaming services. I can't remember which one, but I don't have Netflix, so it was obviously one of the others. It took me a while to catch on to what was going on. I loved the tender heartfelt bits the best. And Jamie Lee Curtis is a treasure.

Did you finish it? Crazy good, right?
finished it, oh my I laughed so much. I won't spoil here the movie, but kind of absurd - comedy that worked out great. It started a little bit slow, but around the min. 20 all gets better and better, and Jamie Lee Curtis is a gem. Thanks for the suggestion. You have a very beautiful day! :heartpumplove: :heartpumplove::beatingheart:

I am so glad you enjoyed it!
I am not a huge movie fan, neither is hubby so the fact we both enjoyed it so much is saying something.

One of the most bizarre movies ever made, but so much fun we've watched it several times, Certain substances which are 100% legal here in California made the experience even more enjoyable. [giggle]

Somehow we missed the boat. I got it from the library and we watched it last night. We were so riveted that each of us fell asleep at some point. Alas, everyone can't enjoy the same thing. Maybe it helps to have a daughter? Or maybe we were in a different part of the multiverse. :spinningchair:

Same here with my husband, it's very rare that he watches a movie, but since philosophy is his specialty, he understood it from a philosophical point of view, what really made it even more interesting, and it was nice to watch a movie together. I'm a real movie fan. It's an unusual interested movie, because is full of symbolism although seems to be just a weird absurd movie.
SPOILER ALERT
(highlight to read, is written in white)
Joy representes the pure nihilism, product of the fragmented, nihilist and cruel mind of Evelyn, while Waymond represents, as opposite, the humanitarian emphatic absurdist; the fight thru the years between both have produced an existentialist toroid (that appears as a donut), at the end what saves everyone is empathy, and the correction of errors on different levels, something similar to the idea of the Buddhist trilakṣaṇa.

@GraceJ First--what a smart idea to write the spoiler in white, I never heard of that before and it's such a neat trick!!
I don't know much about philosophy but it is fascinating to me. Your DH's perspective draws everything together (all at once LOL) so well. Wow!
