East Coast USA Earthquake

I see lots of people have posted up the east coast that they felt it.
Cait was at a friend's house across the street and felt like she was swaying. Gary and I didn't feel a thing. We'd gotten several phone calls of "Did you feel that??" but nope, we didn't.;)

I know Nana Linda is close by, hope she and everyone is OK.

So far, all of my local reports are saying no damage in NJ. The nuclear power plants nearby registered the shocks but no damage to them either.
Of course, Gary is worried- i don't think I posted this- but we have structural damage in my basement walls and foundation and he is worried that the wall might buckle. I think it should be fine though. And if it does buckle, then the homeowner's insurance can pay for it instead of us

We are outside of D.C. where it was a 5.9. We felt it pretty good here. The whole house shook for 30 seconds. I had so many thoughts as to what it was. It was pretty scary!!!

Thankfully, Taylor, my daughter 4.5 yr old was at day camp and didn't feel/notice a thing :-)

Tina

Oh my goodness, Tina, that sounds so frightening. Glad to hear you're OK.

Hope all our other O family members in the region are OK too.

Take care all - and for all of you on East Coast Hurricane Irene is on the way too....

West Coast is quiet, phew!

both my sons were in DC- one felt it in a building he was in and the other felt nothing as he was driving at the time!

Nanna posted something on Facebook about feeling the quake too. But she didn't post after that. Hopefully, we'll hear from her soon. :-)

YEAH!!! I AM HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SCARED THE PANTS OFF OF ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was sitting on the sofa and the whole house started shaking...for about 30-40 seconds...I knew right away it was an earthquake...because NOTHING had ever made the house shake like that....Mike was off and down at his hunting land (about an hour away) so I called him immediately and he said he felt it too!! My Mom and Traci were in the car and Traci called me and asked me if we had an earthquake, they felt it while driving!!! I watched the news consistantly for the rest of the day and night....the epicenter was about and hour and half from here and it was a very small town of about 400 people...there was quite a bit of structual damage there...but no deaths reported..THANK GOODNESS!!! and everywhere else it was just felt and some some cracks in foundations or broken glass! It was mild compared to the others in the recent past...like Japan....but they say it was the strongest one ever on the East Coast!!!

It's just weird that there was one the night before in Colorado!!!!!! WOW Mother Nature must really be pissed off with us all!!!!!!!!!!!

I was actually on a ride at Storybook Land in Southern NJ by Atlantic City when it happened so I didn't notice but my DH is a police officer in south central NJ and he said for about 30 seconds the guys in the station felt giant - what they thought were sounds like really bad wind - and he said the water bottle on his desk was all sloshing around. Then all hell broke loose - 911 went crazy with people calling and alarms starting going off, building evacuated because of the alarms, etc. No one was hurt or anything but if course not expected.

When I came home there were pictures that fell down in my bookcase but other than that, haven't found anything else, thank God!

Scary and now we wait for the hurricane this weekend!!

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh this just sounds so scary. So glad you're OK Nana & Suzy.

Come and live in Britain! Our "earthquakes" are so minor it takes the scientists 2 weeks to work out if it actually was a real earthquake and not some big truck rumbling past. Our only "volcano" is so old & dead that's it eroded down to only 800 ft high now and people walk their dogs & kids on it. We don't do horrendous natural disasters here, thank goodness - a hurricane every 50 years or so but not on the US scale and increasingly winter flooding, but that's because we've run out of spare land and now build on our flood plains.
