I have had no art experience. I did marry a graphic designer who is a graduate of Art Center College of Design, so he has taught me Photoshop and design principals.

we are having differences of opinion now that I am getting Into Art journaling. It’s much to messy for him.
This make me smile!

Until I discovered digital about 8 years ago nobody would have called me creative - I can't draw - stickman is a challenge and I'm not joking, paint, scuplt or even mix and match my outfits. I was a straight A student at school and their pride and joy star pupil... languages, math, science were all easy and there was not a question I couldn't answer...but I was so hopeless in my art classes that I was the only one allowed to finish my projects at home on the ground of compassion... I think everyone - including the teacher - knew that my grandma drew most of the stuff becuase I just coudln't do it no matter how hard I tried... lol... I was not very good at paper scrapbooking either and even today in this digital world I rely on templates for composition, I love premade clusters and prefer to decorate with text. But I am a quick study and most of what I know - I don't really know it, it's just expeirence, so I need to experiment a lot. I have also spent countless hours looking at other people's layouts, reading comments and scraplifting like a maniac. So having been invited to join Oscraps as a creative team member is a HUGE honor!

Nobody in my side of the family is an artist or a designer, but my daughter loves art and drawing and is thinking of a career in sequential arts and illustration. Those are NOT my genes...

I just love any kind of crafting! But as far as art goes, no training! I had the typical art classes in school but no "formal" education. I try to do some mixed media by copying ideas on the web, but nothing serious. I've tried to do some art journaling but just don't get it, lol! I used to always do those sketches from magazines and then send them in to hopefully win an art scholarship, LOL! I finally did get invited.....when I was getting ready to get married and had other plans (like babies) on my mind, lol! When the kids were small I would buy those 11x17 sized art books that gave you the sketch and instructions on how to paint and I did lots of those. I took lots of photos of the kids but didn't discover any kind of scrapbooking until they were practically grown and gone. So I did some paper scrapbooking but enjoyed buying the "stuff" more than actually scrapbooking! And I HATE having to fussy-cut anything, lol! I actually used to subscribe to scrapbooking clipart put out by Provo Craft, I think, back in the early 2000's and made digital pages in my Word for Windows program, lol, before I discovered the online world of digi scrapping around 2005! That's when I bought my first laptop and my first version of Photoshop Elements.....#5, I think! I even did some designing back in 2009. I did that for maybe a couple of years, but I was never very good at it. It became a job instead of a hobby for me, so I quit and joined a CT, lol! I'd rather let someone else do the work and let me play with their creation! ;)

I've been drawing since I was old enough to hold a pencil in my chubby little hand. I used to open one of my mother's catalogs or magazines and draw the people, clothes, shoes, etc. In my preteens, paper dolls were the big thing. All my friends bought books of paper dolls but my family was poor so I couldn't afford them and drew my own. The bought ones were usually of chubby little girls with floral dresses. I drew grown-up ladies with evening gowns, fancy hairdos, glitter and glam. I was ashamed of mine since they weren't like the store-bought ones all my friends had. One day a neighborhood friend was over visiting, and she accidentally knocked the box off my dresser where I kept my paper dolls. As she began to pick them up, she started oohing and awwing over them and begged me to make some for her. So, I did. She showed them to all our other friends and suddenly I became the paper doll maker of our community. Wish I'd known enough back then to charge for them!! Later, after I was married in my early twenties, I took up oil painting, a class taught by an incredible artist from Mexico. I started the classes just because my mother-in-law was taking them and I was trying to find something in common with her. The instructor loved my work, told me I could easily sell my paintings for high prices, and carried on about my art way too much in the class. It made my mother-in-law jealous so she quit. I thought her work was very good too. Soon, I developed a sensitivity to the paints and other chemicals involved with oil painting. I tried a few other mediums that didn't involve such strong chemicals but didn't like any of them as well. I then had three miscarriages, so also stopped painting. Later, I bought a camera and began photography. I began painting with film and light, rather than oil and brushes. And, yes, I started with a film camera. It was several years later before I got my first DSLR and was in love!! I now have my first mirrorless camera and love it. I also do a lot of phonology and love processing with various apps on my iPad. Around the time I got my DSLR, I got my first computer and opened a blog, about photography. I couldn't find any graphics I liked for my blog header, etc, so decided to learn to create my own. I then began to create and sell blog graphics. While looking up tutorials for designing graphics, I discovered digital greeting card sites, which led me to digital scrapbook design and I started doodling with that. Somewhere along, I met Julie Mead and she got me started seriously designing and selling my work. For nearly twelve years I designed and sold digi scrap designs. I retired about five years ago, as I really got tired of it all. I now enjoy admiring the incredible designs of others and using them. I honestly had little time to scrap all those years while designing. Now, I'm just having fun!! ♥
