I've been drawing since I was old enough to hold a pencil in my chubby little hand. I used to open one of my mother's catalogs or magazines and draw the people, clothes, shoes, etc. In my preteens, paper dolls were the big thing. All my friends bought books of paper dolls but my family was poor so I couldn't afford them and drew my own. The bought ones were usually of chubby little girls with floral dresses. I drew grown-up ladies with evening gowns, fancy hairdos, glitter and glam. I was ashamed of mine since they weren't like the store-bought ones all my friends had. One day a neighborhood friend was over visiting, and she accidentally knocked the box off my dresser where I kept my paper dolls. As she began to pick them up, she started oohing and awwing over them and begged me to make some for her. So, I did. She showed them to all our other friends and suddenly I became the paper doll maker of our community. Wish I'd known enough back then to charge for them!! Later, after I was married in my early twenties, I took up oil painting, a class taught by an incredible artist from Mexico. I started the classes just because my mother-in-law was taking them and I was trying to find something in common with her. The instructor loved my work, told me I could easily sell my paintings for high prices, and carried on about my art way too much in the class. It made my mother-in-law jealous so she quit. I thought her work was very good too. Soon, I developed a sensitivity to the paints and other chemicals involved with oil painting. I tried a few other mediums that didn't involve such strong chemicals but didn't like any of them as well. I then had three miscarriages, so also stopped painting. Later, I bought a camera and began photography. I began painting with film and light, rather than oil and brushes. And, yes, I started with a film camera. It was several years later before I got my first DSLR and was in love!! I now have my first mirrorless camera and love it. I also do a lot of phonology and love processing with various apps on my iPad. Around the time I got my DSLR, I got my first computer and opened a blog, about photography. I couldn't find any graphics I liked for my blog header, etc, so decided to learn to create my own. I then began to create and sell blog graphics. While looking up tutorials for designing graphics, I discovered digital greeting card sites, which led me to digital scrapbook design and I started doodling with that. Somewhere along, I met Julie Mead and she got me started seriously designing and selling my work. For nearly twelve years I designed and sold digi scrap designs. I retired about five years ago, as I really got tired of it all. I now enjoy admiring the incredible designs of others and using them. I honestly had little time to scrap all those years while designing. Now, I'm just having fun!! ♥
