Oscraps

Daily Ooo's Weekend edition November 24 & 25

LaurieW

lOve the O!
Happy weekend to everyone- I am hoping to get more scrapping in this weekend and putting Christmas up and out! Trying (not successfully) to stay away from all the good bargains.

What are you doing? Chris- hope your jammie day revived you. LindaS- hope things have passed!

Laurie you are up early! And very brave re: Christmas. I am still in denial that it is one month away. I am planning on staying in denial as long as possible :)

I did have a pj day yesterday. I was also able to get two more pages scrapped for my mom's heritage album. 12 down, 8 more to go. eep.
I hope to get at least 3-4 more done today. I have to get this done so I can move on to the next projects. No pressure or nuthin' right?? :/

I am also sorry for screwing up yesterday's OO's thread. I could not figure out how to un-merge the threads once I realized I merged the wrong ones. I wish everything in life had a Ctrl-Z option hahahah!!!

love to all!!!

up since 4:30, but i am SMOKIN'! i got all my Christmas CDs done and designed covers and jewel case plates for them. now i'm just cutting things out and pasting on the CD labels. WOOT!! i actually got 6 1/2+ hours of sleep, so i'm good.

IT IS SNOWING! that's a bummer. just a few days ago it was 60 here. well, guess that's Winter in The Great NorthEast.... gonna drive to DD's spartment and Hubby's going to help her assemble an Ikea Christmas gift from us. that always involved a LOT of swearing. after that, it's FOOTBALL games on tv/radio. Penn State's last game of the season and our Notre Dame it trying to stay undefeated. i am absolutely going to watch that game. while my son was there and for years afterwards, Notre Dame football was SAAAAAD!! hopefuly they don't blow it today.

OK. off to get showered and dressed. have and excellent weekend, O-zies!

Good morning all. Off to make eggs for my darling and demanding daughter for breakfast. Back soon.

Ok...everyone has been fed. Yesterday was a slow day once we got over the start in the ER. Brian hasn't passed the kidney stone yet but he is feeling much better. The pain mess helped him get a good night of sleep.

I was able to talk Syd into taking a nap with me on the sofa and we slept for two hours. At 10 last night, we were all back in bed and slept like a baby.

I am planning on a nice easy day again today. Hoping to talk the kids into dressing up so that I can get some pictures. I need to get my Christmas cards out. Must admit that I love the way the calendar is working this year...plenty of time between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I am supposed to bake 10 dozen cookies for the homeless shelter on December 3 so I thought that I would go ahead and get that done this weekend as well as a head start on my Christmas baking.

Phylis, you are a crazy woman. Finishing all of that so early this morning. Hope you have a fun day with your daughter.

Chris, aren't pj days the best? Glad that you enjoyed it.

Laurie, sounds like this weekend will be a great finish to your vacation week.

Feels like this day have been wasted. It's almost 6 pm, and I still haven't watched a single minute of Dr. Quinn today LOL

Laundry and scrapping is what I've been doing.

Hi ladies!! I came to post yesterday but I got so confused I ran away!! :hurt:

I was sooooooooooooooo wiped out that I took a three hour nap yesterday afternoon...it was just me and Cameran here and he said I looked so tired he didn't want to wake me up....he just sat here on the sofa with me and played on the Kindle the whole time!! SUCH A GOOD BOY!!!

I have to tell ya girls!!! THANKSGIVING WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did all that work for two straight days and I didn't mind doing it all this time and we invited Traci and her new boyfriend and things went soooooooooooooooooo well!! It is the first family holiday we have had in years without any drama at all...........my whole family was so happy together and had such a good time. So as you can imagine I was in NANA HEAVEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Traci has been doing so well that I let her take the kids for 5 hours yesterday....that's the first time I have let her take them. She took them fishing (the weather was gorgeous here yesterday) and then back to her place for dinner, she brought them back here and gave them their baths and into their pjs....after she left we watched a movie and then Jaiden went to bed while the boys played until 11 and then we went to bed (Mike stayed at his friends in the country so he didn't burn so much gas driving back and forth...which he has done all hunting season about three nights a week). Kids slept til 9 this morning....I slept until 8..............LIFE IS GOOD!!!!!!!!!!! I have not been able to say that in a long time!!!!!!!!! ♥ hope I am not jinxing anything!!

Traci took them again today for a while...they are loving spending time with her...it's doing them all some good...me too....Cameran is getting plenty of Nana time...even though he wants to go with them...he misses his "tay-tay".....he loves her very much!! I told him that would come later. I guess he will go home tonight...maybe...I don't know...he loves being here....

So I am cleaning now (well I am suppose to be..HAHA!!)...but when I finish I promised C-man I would play battleship with him...then I want to scrap at least ONE PAGE THIS MONTH!! I actually have to scrap one...for my challenge for December!!

But I need to inventory what I have gotten for Christmas gifts so far...I have very little money to spend...so I need to stretch it far....I did order 150 prints from Winkflash yesterday..they had a fb special of 6cent prints on 4x6 and I am putting all the good photos of the kids from 2012 in an album for my Mom and Dad for Christmas...so that was $14 and about $10 for and album...not too bad... Sharon doesn't want anything...she said a coupon book with LOTS OF BABYSITTING COUPONS FOR THE WHOLE YEAR...haha...poor Savannah...she gets shafted by everyone...no one will keep her overnight (she doesn't sleep well)...and with Jesse and Jaiden here it's hard for me...

Okay...I need to run..............be back later today!!

Linda, so very, very glad to hear about your good Thanksgiving! ((hugs)) of happiness!

And, Eva, if you have been scrapping...it can't have been a wasted day!

Nana, YAAAAY!!! all of what you wrote sounds lovely. especially the sleeping part and the family all loving to be together part!

Linda, glad to hear your hubby isn't in pain for now. whew.

Eva, hope you got in some Dr. Quinn!

Laurie, are you having wireless troubles?

No, not wireless troubles. We are heading back from Williamsburg. Many hours in the car. I am happy that I bought the tablet. The mountians blocked signal at times. We are in Ohio now!

What a great way to use the drive time Laurie...browsing the gallery. How I would have loved that when we used to take long drives. Haven't done that in awhile!

Happy Sunday my lovelies! Its the last day of the long weekend. I hope to use today's time wisely and get caught up on crap before December hits me like a ton of bricks. You know how that goes, right?

Gary is finally starting to feel more like himself. That herx he had last week was HELLACIOUS!!!! he starts up on his second round of IV doxy today and I have to say I hope it is not as bad this week. It can't be, right???

Other than that, I guess its a another day moving forward. Slowly, slowly......

Hope you all have a fantastic one.

Hi laurie!!! Hope you have a great day today and are all refreshed for work.

Phyllis- your CD's sound awesome!!! Bet it feels great to have them all done!! :high5:
(jealous  )
We had flurries yesterday too, and a few inches predicted for Tuesday. Ugh!!! Looks like no one got the memo-- flurries are only allowed on Christmas Eve- not allowed to stick- and it all has to be gone by Christmas noon time. The Great Faery Has Spoken. LOL

Linda- how is Brian feeling today? hugs to you all. Were you able to get new pics of the kids? If not, you have to use that photo of them before the wedding last week, that was precious!!
I admire you so much for baking cookies for the homeless. i used to bake pies for the nursing home in town when I had time and money. I hate that I haven't been able to keep stuff like that up. I really should recruit Cait and even a couple of her friends to help me do that again.....

Eva- Did you get to Dr Quinn today? Hope so!

nana!!!!!!! I am so so sooooooo HAPPY for you that you had a great T-day and weekend!!!!!!!!!!! My fingers and toes are all crossed that Traci continues on this path and that life continues to be GOOD!!!!!!!

Love to ALL!!!!!

Happy Sunday everyone... Never even made it in here yesterday as MG and I were helping out my brother get ready for the Celebration of Life Service for his Wife. Today is the day of the Service so I am up super early to get some CT work done. Next week is a busy one at work, my friend that I work with is on holiday all week, so I am filling in a bit for her.

Chris - Glad that your MG is feeling a bit better, hopefully this week will show even more improvement for him! Uggh on the :smow: None for us yet, the sun was out all day yesterday and is supposed to be out all day today too!! So nice to not have the :rain: !!

Laurie - Hope you are enjoying your trip!!

LindaS - Glad that you MG is feeling better too! Your day of baking sounds wonderful! Nothing like the smell of goodies baking in the kitchen! Glad that you have the time to get it done!

Nana Linda - Whoo Hooo!! So happy that your Thanksgiving went so well and that Traci seems to be on the right path! Keeping my fingers crossed for you that she continues to do so!! Sending you loving thoughts my U.S.A. Sister!!

Phylis - Guess there are some advantages to getting up at the crack of dawn!! Wow you got lots done!! I am so envious ! I haven't got hardly anything done for Christmas yet. I really gotta get my butt in gear, but life and work keep getting in the way!!

Our store shopping night went very well, hubby spoiled me and bought me a new set of Paderno cookware, big savings!!! Woot! A few other things that we needed and a couple of gifts for the kids. Bought myself a new printer at Staples yesterday and a new outfit to wear for the service and the many Christmas parties that we will be going to this year. So all in all a pretty good weekend. Still so much more to do to get ready for Christmas, but I think I will do the rest of my shopping online this year. Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday, it will be a tearful one for us as we say our final goodbye to SIL

Morning O fam- lovely to sleep in my own bed and cook breakfast in my own home. The scales say- umm 2 pounds up- not bad for the first step on after traveling- lots of water today to wash the salt away and back to my exercise routine. I can do this. Don't tell anyone, but I took tomorrow off for a play day for myself! Today- cleaning, up,putting away and beginning to decorate for Christmas! Scrapping too! Cloudy and depressing to look outside, so I will have to make my own sunshine!!

Oh Laurie...what a wise woman to ease into the "after vacation real life" with a four day week!

Chris, glad that Gary is doing better. Hoping that this week is much easier for him (and you and the kids).

Brian is back to normal but drinking much more water. He is determined to do everything in his power to prevent another kidney stone.

I've got Chex mix in the oven, homemade bread in the oven, chicken cooked and chopped for enchiladas for lunch and homemade ice cream done. Need to get started on cookies but wanted to come in and tell you all good morning!
Trudy, thinking of you today as you go through this service. I'm sure that it will be very difficult for all.

Trudy-- sending hugs~~~

P- I was cleaning out old emails and found these recipes, thought you mightbe interested:

I love googling (a word?) Low Carb recipes for Breakfast!!

This easy, healthy, low carb breakfast pudding can be made with any berries or other addtions as listed. Make it in the microwave in under 5 minutes. For a larger serving, increase the almond meal up to 1/2 cup, add 1 Tablespoon water, and cook a bit longer.
Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup almond meal
  • 2 Tablespoons water
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup blueberries - frozen or otherwise
  • Sweetener and flavoring to taste - see list below
Preparation:

Mix almond meal, egg, and water in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for about 45 seconds. Move the cooked part of the pudding towards the center of the bowl and add blueberries and/or any mix-ins you want. Microwave for about 45-60 more seconds, depending on mix-ins (frozen fruit will need even longer cooking, as it will cool down the pudding). Stir and eat.

Frittatas are wonderful. A frittata is an egg dish made mainly on the stove, easier than omelets, and can be vehicles for almost any veggies, cheeses, or meats you happen to have around. They are served in wedges and are easily transportable - in Italy it's common to take a wedge to work for lunch. I like making large ones with a 12-inch skillet so I have enough for more than one meal.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 20 minutes
Here's How:

  1. Adjust top oven rack - with a skillet (ovenproof!) on it, you want the top of the skillet to be 4-6 inches from the broiler. Turn on broiler.
  2. Put skillet (preferably 12" nonstick) on stove and add about a tablespoon of oil. Add any raw vegetables or meat you want in your frittata and saute them until done, adding any herbs, spices, and salt you desire.
  3. Add any cooked ingredients and heat them through.
  4. Whisk eggs (12 eggs for a thick frittata in a 12" skillet, fewer eggs for a thinner frittata or in a smaller skillet) with salt, pepper, and 3 Tablespoons of water, milk, half and half, or cream. (Half and half is said to produce the best results.) If using cheese, add about half to the eggs (or you can save all of it for the top). Add egg mixture to skillet.
  5. On medium heat, cook eggs for about 2 minutes, scraping the sides and bottom with heat-resistant spatula. When eggs are mostly cooked but still very wet, stop stirring. You want to see cooked egg scattered throughout, but loose egg in between.
  6. Continue cooking on stove for another minute so underside sets.
  7. Sprinkle the rest of the cheese on top. Put skillet under broiler. Watch carefully while top browns. This will take 2-4 minutes
  8. Remove skillet from oven and let sit for about 5 minutes to finish cooking in center.
  9. Cut in wedges and serve.

Tips:

  1. For a step-by-step with pictures, see Linda Larsen, About's Busy Cook Guide's Illustrated Guide to Making a Frittata. The technique is slightly different than mine, but you can get a good idea.
  2. Typical ingredients to go in frittatas are smoked meats such as ham and bacon, and vegetables such as spinach, mushrooms, peppers, and asparagus.
  3. Be sure to use an oven mitt or potholder when removing skillet from oven. Just because it is cool when using on the stove doesn't mean it will stay cool in the oven. For safety, leave the mitt or a dishcloth in place on the handle to remind you not to grab it with a bare hand.
  4. Frittata wedges freeze well. Cool completely before wrapping and freezing.

What You Need:

  • A non-stick oven-proof skillet, preferably 12"
  • Eggs (12 for a thick frittata) and other ingredients
  • Heat resistant spatula, such as silicon
  • Broiler (if no broiler, you can just put it in the oven to cook)

And:

aura's Cooking Tip:Which Oil Should I Use? </od/tips/qt/highheatoil.htm>
Ingredients:
    • 1 cup almond flour
    • 2 eggs
    • 1/4 cup water (for puffier pancakes, you can use sparkling water)
    • 2 T oil
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1 T sweetener
Preparation:
Mix ingredients together and cook as you would other pancakes. I like to use a nonstick pan with a little oil. The only real difference is that they won't "bubble" on top the same way as regular pancakes. Flip them when the underside is brown.

Serve with
sugar-free maple syrup </od/products/gr/sugarfreesyrup.htm>, Easy Three Berry Syrup </od/desserts/r/berrysyrup.htm>, strawberry topping </od/desserts/r/strawberrysauce.htm>, or other low carb topping.

Yield: Six 4-inch pancakes

Nutritional Information: Each pancake has 1 gram effective carbohydrate </od/glossary/g/glosstermecc.htm>, plus 2 grams of fiber, 6 grams of protein, and 155 calories.

Chris, you dear. THANK YOU! i am intrigued by the blueberry recipe especially. i will try it tomorrow! gotta get to my desktop computer and copy and paste the recipes.

Trudy, hope the service went OK. it was bound to be heartbreaking.

i am up at an ungodly hour again. 3:20 a.m. i did get about 7 hours of sleep, though. just in an odd time frame!

hubby and i went to the 80th bd party of one of my two remaining aunts on Sunday. it was fun and sad at the same time. how does that happen?

well, think i'll make a few more Christmas cards this morning. i always end up needing more than i originally make. i have the ones i've already made all filled with Christmas confetti and addressed. gotta get to the post office today.

this really should be posted in the Monday thread, but, of course, it's not there yet. all SANE people are still ASLEEP!!!! :hurt:

Hope that you like them. I never did try them. When the kids were first diagnosed, we all had to go on a low carb diet and that is *hard* to do with a 9 and 11 yo! My brother (who is an excellent cook) sent them to me, so hopefully they will be yummy!
