It's my dad's birthday! Too bad that I am aggravated with him at the moment. Damn man has no sense.
(Nope, my autocorrect didn't change the phrase to "men" although it could have and still be accurate. Probably should have LOL!)
Guess what this 83 yo man was doing over the weekend?
Raking leaves. Again.

*head desk*

83 yo man who had a shoulder replaced in the Spring, severe bursitis in his non-replaced hip, and a hernia. Raking leaves. My gawd.

Scott called yesterday to see if I had asked my dad about letting us borrow the leaf blower and I had forgotten. I suggested he bring it here anyway so he wouldn't have it. Gary was clear-minded enough to realize that if my dad didn't have the leaf blower and wanted to work on the leaves he would continue to use the rake. Seriously. Men. *eye roll*

I did a lot of raking in the afternoon myself and it was a gorgeous day to be out there. The sun was quite warm, I worked up a sweat! I got the majority of leaves off of the front and still have a lot of work to do in the back. I am so lucky that all I have to do is rake the leaves into the woods. I pulled out all of the marigolds and saved a bunch of seeds for my dad. I Willplnat them for him in the spring if I am talking to him by then. Of course, I will be. I am aggravated, sure, but I can't stay mad at my parents for very long. I used up that ability in my teen years. :D

I have to put the curtains back up this morning, I washed them all the day I plastic-ed the windows, I never get them back up "right." The ones in my bedroom are the kind that loop over a bar and drape down. YKWIM? Any tips or tricks on how to get that looking even and not sliding all over?
Cleaning this afternoon for my friend. He is still recovering from foot surgery so he'll be home and I will have to clean around him. I always feel bad that I am in his way. He always feels bad that he is in my way, ha.

Other than that, not much else. xoxoxo

@nancyr Check in when you have a chance! I haven't seen you in a while, hope all is well!

@tanteva No. No noooooo.
ugh!! Snow. BLECK!!!!!
Did it melt?
Please tell me it melted.
:D

hehe, thanks for sharing the old LOs! I know my old ones are *very* different in style and technique too. DO you have any programs in Sweden to offset some of the price of adding solar panels? My BFF's DH put panels on their house and they got some deal on them and some of the electricity they generate goes back into the grid to help pay for it. We have too many trees in the way for us to do solar but I wish we could.
My poor eyes were *exhausted* looking for the stitches in the black yarn. Thank goodness that the pattern itself was very "self-correcting." Not sure if that makes sense, but each row was a different stitch so for the most part, you couldn't miscount (other than that one row where I added the extra cluster)
What color is the doily you are working on?

@bcgal00 I hope that your power stayed on the entire day. Although it would have been a decent excuse if you preferred to play with Remi in the mud over working. I read one Nicolas Sparks book a loooong time ago, The Notebook maybe? It was very sad too. Sending good thoughts to your friend's DD.
Poor D!! What a mess, he must have been angry and mortified that they had the police escort him out. (Reminds me when Gary's Dr did the same thing to him  ) Is Service Canada able to help him with the process?

@taxed4ever Are the photos that Heather sent going to be used for your calendars? Can't wait to see pages of the boys in your gallery. Sorry that your Gary makes you be on Ladder Guard Duty too. Laugh away at me!
Your paintings are gorgeous! Good luck!!

@scrap-genie Look at the plant! So exciting to see it change color.
The warm weather made it feel very strange for it to be so dark at dinner. Looks like today might be the last of the warm Nov days, at least for a while.

@Cherylndesigns Your lamp is going to make such a difference, and high fives to your hubs for getting it for you. Sorry that the light is blinding but I guess that is what makes it work. Did it come with extra screen covers? Mine did- it has a "Comfort Lens" that blocks some of the brightness and then a clear cover. I thought I would prefer the clear but it is too bright, gives me a headache.
Hahah!! Sam found friends! Are they all fixed?
I do that to Caitlyn- put my hands on her neck and she gets *mad* and does it back to me.
ITA-- 2 Avas would be a lot to take LOL

hugs!

Good morning, Everyone!
I am bad about not getting over to this thread and checking out what everyone is doing on a daily basis! I usually don't get on the site until later in the day. By that time I'm working on layouts or commenting in the gallery and forget to come over here!

Chris, I know you get aggravated with your dad at times. That generation really hangs on to their independence, no matter what! I have a dear friend that age and you are NOT going to tell her what to do! If you try, she will do what she wants to do anyway! I will probably do the same thing when I (if I ever) get to that age! It is coming sooner and quicker than I want it to, I am afraid! I turned 66 this year so I still have a few years yet before I turn stubborn, LOL!

Speaking of the elderly, lol, yesterday I took my dear friend I mentioned above and another elderly dear friend to a widows' meeting about an hour away (round trip is right at 150 miles!). The pastor's wife who normally fixes their meal was not there so she asked me to be her substitute, along with another lady. Fortunately she had the food there. It was just a matter of "open, dump, burn and eat" preparation for us! But it's all about the "presentation!" So, the tomato soup was put into a beautiful glass bowl and the same for the bread, crackers, salad and dessert. The widows LOVE the little bit of spoiling they get during the meeting! The meeting begins at 11 with a Bible devotion and some singing. Then the meal is ready and they eat and visit with one another. Usually by 1 p.m. everyone has departed being refreshed from the fellowship. Yesterday I had to help clean up and make sure the church building was secured and locked up, so we didn't leave until around 1:30. By the time I get the ladies back home it is around 3 when I get home having begun around 9 when I picked up the ladies from their homes. I enjoy the time spent with them.

Today I plan to spend the day with those same two dear elderly friends. I will take some soup for us to enjoy for lunch and we will spend the day (until around 3) playing Rummikub and Farkle.

Good morning! Work has settled down enough I am able to check in this morning - woot! It's been top secret stuff but going to the board for approval today so I can feel the 'whoosh' of the stress as it is not very busy this morning! It is also a PD day, meaning no students, which means it is a day I can catch up on stuff as there is no sub teachers or sub EAs to dispatch (this is what takes up most of my mornings). It's a holiday tomorrow (Remembrance Day) and also our fall break in our division, so I'm taking Friday off for a 4 day weekend - woot! It is very much needed, I've been feeling like I'm burning the candles at both ends the last couple of weeks. My girls are also off, so we plan to have some fun.

@faerywings I hope your dad does not injure himself - and Happy Birthday to him!! It's nice that you are cleaning for your friend. I got a housecleaner in yesterday for the first time (in this house) - so nice coming home to a clean house! They missed one bathroom (the teenager's in the basement), but the rest looked amazing.

@tanteva I am dreading snow - we usually have had it about a month already, so it's a nice surprise that we haven't had any. There's none in the 2 weeks forecast even, so bizarre. I hope yours melted!!

Morning, gals. Been a busy week already. Monday was a fun day... got together for a brown bag lunch with some friends from our now closed Red Hat chapter. So good to just visit and chat about what is going on with each of us. One of the gals suggested we "dress up" for our Dec lunch and another suggested we do a gift exchange of something we already own... like a white elephant exchange. Sounds like it will be a fun time.
The suggestion of dressing up for Dec lunch had me looking into my closets for what I might wear.... which lead me on a hunt for 3 dressy dresses and I couldn't find them. I finally remembered that when I thought my cousin would move in with me back just before Covid hit, I had to make space for her so I weeded out a bunch of clothes. Guess those dresses were in that bunch. The good news is that I did find a lovely long skirt, top and sparkly jacket that will be perfect. Yesterday I went to the Senior Citizen Center and took back a few books and picked up a few from the library. Waited about 15 minutes until the gal from the county treasurer's office arrived and paid my property taxes for the year. So glad they do this yearly outreach so I didn't have drive 25 miles to the county office. With the mail being so slow, I didn't want to take a chance on mailing it.

Our weather the past week has been warm - up into the low-to-mid 70s - but a cold front came in yesterday so will be lucky if it gets to 63-64 the rest of the week. Yes, it is time to start wearing long sleeves and heavier pants. Chris, hope you were able to get your winter clothes down from the attic. So glad that I no longer have to do the semi-annual switch. Now I couldn't handle hauling those bins I used to use for storage. Not cold enough to start wearing the long johns yet, thank goodness.

Yesterday, I went to use the paper shredder only to discover that it won't work. Since we have it for about 15 years, I wasn't too surprised it quit. I really used it a lot when I was cleaning up the office. Will watch for sales as it that time of year. In the meantime, I have a small plastic basket I will use to hold the things that must be shredded before going into the trash.

@faerywings Love the gloves you made for Cait... they look so nice and warm. But, wow... hats off to you for working with that black yarn.... so hard to see where to put the hook for the stitches. Doesn't matter that Cait bought a pair of fingerless gloves - know she will love the pair you made for her. I am with you about being scared when you had to hold the ladder for Gary ... and he was climbing up to the second story!!! I worried about my DH when I had to hold onto him when he was on a stepstool putting Christmas lights under the eaves!

@taxed4ever Sorry your had ladder guard duty, too. Thanks for showing us your beautiful art work.

@Cherylndesigns Looks like you are getting more of the colder weather than we are having here. Quite a change from Florida. Stay warm, gal.

@tjscraps Great that you are having a bit lighter stress at work now. Nice that you are getting a 4 day weekend by taking a day in addition to the Remembrance Day. Yes, we have Veterans Day here in the US tomorrow.

@tanteva I have been reading some 'older' books... written back in the 80's-90's. The Senior Citizen Center library gets quite a few of the older books as members donate them to the library. I am reading "Beyond Eden" by Catherine Coulter (1992). Also enjoying some books by Anne Hilderman... she is continuing the stories featuring the Native American characters her father, Tony Hilderman, wrote about. Really enjoy those books are they are set in the southwest 4-Corners area near where I live.

Not sure, but think this may turn into a PJ day. I am nice and warm in my fleece ones and no errands to do - so may just take a 'kick-back' day and read the day away.

Morning everyone! I am staying home from hiking today, it isn't raining and in fact it is quite nice out, but brrrrrr, it's COLD!! Only 1 degree Celsius this morning. There is a bunch of fresh snow on the higher mountain tops and the sun shining on them looks so pretty. I am just not in the mood to hike today, its a long drive to get to the hike too. I am sure I will be regretting not going in a couple of hours LOL. I really need to take today to get a few more calendar pages done. I managed to get two done yesterday, I will try to get a couple into the gallery here, but hope that the kids do not see them. Not that they stock me on this site or anything LOL. I also need to find a few more Christmas gifts for the grands today also. Tomorrow DH will be home and I am sure he will be underfoot most of the time so I won't be able to get what I want to do done. We are however both going to finally get started on the fireplace re-do. WooHoo!!! It will be done before Christmas, that makes me happy! Well that is if it turns out the way I envisioned it LOL. Need to get some commenting done here at the O also. It will be a full day of sitting and not getting the exercise I should be getting. I will attempt to go for a walk at some point, just to get out of my chair and get some fresh air. Need to dig out my mitts though so my fingers don't freeze off, darn Raynauds!! I hate when my fingers look like a corpse's fingers, right @faerywings !!
1636560481311.png
Another reason I don't want to hike today as most likely my fingers and toes will look like this the entire hike LOL.

@faerywings - Chris sorry that you are pissed at your Dad!! I know exactly what you are feeling!! FIL is the same way and refuses to call us when he needs help with yardwork etc. There place is such a large piece of property and on the water, so it is a lot of work, too much for an 87 year old who is going blind! Thanks for liking my artwork, I struggled with doing it on such a small surface, but it was fun and hopefully they will be liked at the ArtShow and Sale! Glad you got to be outside and that you got some raking done. If the decks dry up today I will go out with the leaf blower and get them all cleaned up, everything is still so soaking wet. Good luck with getting your curtains up and looking right, I have the same kind in my dining room and always struggle to get them looking good again. Sorry no secret trick to share, just a lot of patience and re-doing . Hope that you manage to stay out of each others way while you clean for your friend today!

@vickyday - How sweet of you to spend so much time with your elderly friends! I bet they are fun to be with and have lots of great stories to tell you!

@tjscraps - Woo Hoo on the four day weekend coming up for you! Will you be going to the Remembrance Day Ceremony in your area?? We will not as its supposed to be extremely rainy and not sure if they are doing much again this year because of Covid. Hope that the snow continues to be a no show for you for a bit longer. I don't miss the prairie winters on little bit! We get snow mostly on the mountain tops around here and usually on a few days of snow that sticks around on the ground in January.

@scrap-genie - Your plant looks amazing!! It will be another great year for your beautiful Poinsettia!!

Kay - Wouldn't you know it ... just when you get rid of something, that's when you need it again! sorry you did not have your lovely fancy dresses to wear, but at least you found a great outfit that you still had! Had a laugh over the paper shredder not working, we had one for many years also, but when Isaac and Sadie were out this summer they had so much fun getting rid of a bunch of papers that had piled up around here. They burned the motor out of it LOL. Who knew a paper shredder could be so much fun?? Now we are also on the look out for one on sale.

Ok I have been on here long enough, need to get my chores done and then into the shower. Have a great Wednesday everyone!

Just a quick hello today: been busy scrapping today + getting ready for work tomorrow. Haven't been working for 2 weeks, it feels like ages ago. Only a short day tomorrow, noon til 6 pm. Good that it won't be a long day, since I feel a bit rusty.

Snow is still here ... it hasn't gotten that warm as they said on the forecast. We'll see. I just hope it either goes away completely or that there will come more snow. If it just melts a little bit & then freezes again ... will not be fun to go to the bus stop tomorrow!

@faerywings The doily is in 2 shades of red, 2 shades of green + gray ... so far ... we'll see how it will end. Right now I don't think I'll add any more colors, but I'll see how it turns out. Oh, and there is some tax reductions you can get if you install "green" energy. Not sure how much though. It's a fairly new thing, I think they just changed it.

@vickyday Used to play Farkle on Facebook when I had that. Googled the rules & printed, but no one's interested in playing it with me. I'm the only one still interested in old school games in this house. LOL

@BrightEyes Don't think I've read any of the authors you mentioned. My favorites from the 90s are Sandra Brown (bought tons of her books), Heather Graham & Iris Johansen. Also read lots of Sidney Sheldon back then. All in all, I read WAAAAY more back in the 90s, before internet stole my life! LOL

Now I have to go and see if I have any decent clothes to wear at work. LOL

Just a quick hello. I had some software issues this morning with work stuff so that threw my work schedule off and of course in the meantime I still had to do all the dog stuff. The rest of my day will be busy with work but that's ok. I'm not working tomorrow and then catch up day on Friday, so the rest of the week is going to be better.

Hope you are all enjoying your day.

Good afternoon all.

I'm really late today. Adrienne came down for coffee, then the woman who cleans for us came - she was by herself today. She said she prefers to clean alone. Last time, she had one helper and before that, 2. I'm always sitting at my laptop working and she started looking at what I was doing. Then I showed her some of the books I've made and her I had just made Ava one for her birthday, I already sent Steph hers and have one on the way for Adrienne, for Christmas. After I showed her mine, she asked me if I ever made them for other people. Anyway, she got all excited and wants me to make at least 2 for her family! I told her to start firing me the pictures and then she said "why don't we barter and for every book, I'll clean you house free?" I had already told her I wouldn't charge her for making the pages - and the finished book (with the larger amount of pages) is about the same price. I told her that totally worked for me! Then she said she wanted Ava to do a photo shoot of her and her daughter and I told her Ava would barter, I was sure! Ava has her "store" in the consignment for practically nothing in exchange for handling their social media and marketing. I love to barter! She showed me some of the pictures on her phone and I was impressed!

So, how was all of your day(s)? LOL Chris @faerywings I don't think the world is ready for 2 Ava's. But wouldn't it be fun to see those two in action? About the cats - Sam is fixed and Ava's grey cat, Harley, is because we both got them from shelters. The black cat, Stormy, isn't and we're pretty sure the other orange tabby isn't. If Stormy gets preggers, we know it won't be by Sam. "Billy Jean the kid ain't my son". BWAHAHA Our "boy" stayed out all night again last night. I stayed up way too late waiting on him to come home, but finally gave up. He flew in the door this morning when Chuck opened it to take Daisy out.

About your dad - eye roll - it won't do any good to tell him to not do things. LOL He sounds like a real character and I hope he has a happy birthday. I had a great aunt who would not stop doing anything. She was almost 80 when she fell off her roof! She was up there cleaning out the eave troughs. She lived to be 102.

Trudy @taxed4ever you have such beautiful hands!!! Your fingers are so long and straight! Don't do anything to break them, ma'am! Breaking one of mine made it go crooked a long time ago. UGH.

Kay @BrightEyes it's getting colder here all the time, but we're supposed to get a little break by the end of the week. I'm NOT looking forward to the real cold and ice!!! I'm always ready to move back to Florida about that time. Relocating to OK seemed like a good idea at the time. BWAHAHA Good luck finding something dressy to wear. Not my favorite thing to do. I don't have much, anyway.

Vicky @vickyday what a sweet picture of you and the elders. That's so nice of you to do that. I'm sure they enjoy playing games with you.

Oh, Kay @BrightEyes I'm still in my pjs. Even with people here, I haven't gotten dressed. I sleep in tights and baggy T-shirts, anyway, so my hubby says nobody knows. I have a joke about taking off my daytime pj's and putting my nighttime ones on. He says they all look the same.

Waving to everybody!

Just a quick note before I head off for work. Finished the book I've been reading this morning, and found a link to the author's web site. Just thought I'd let you know that he says this on the site: "For now the book is only available in Swedish. Hopefully coming in Norwegian and English very soon." So ... if you're interested - keep an eye out.
