This had to have been the weirdest, most anti-climatic Halloween that we have ever had. For real. The entire day was off.

Caitlyn didn't make it to school again which worried me but she did seem a tiny bit better than she had the day before. We carved our pumpkins in the afternoon but everyone was so tired, it was quiet. Gary didn't even want to carve his and Cait finally guilted him into it. Our Hocus Pocus DVD must have a scratch on it or something else was weird since it had no sound and then was skipping all around which meant we couldn't even watch it. We watched a couple of episodes of Stranger Things (OMG!! So good!). At least that was set on Halloween but still- it wasn't *our* movie. We had all of 4 groups of kids come to the house. That made Gary happy that he didn't go crazy this year for no one to even see the display. However, one group of kids wanted to know where the band was (that was what Gary had made last year) and I heard that parents asking what was there this year. That was bittersweet for me that he didn't do anything but at least was remembered as having put cool stuff up in the past.

All I can say is if this mood/vibe lasts and makes Christmas be a bummer too, I am gonna get :mmph:

And at the end of the day to hear about the attack in NYC made it very sad too.

Today I am off to clean for my friend and then do paperwork. I have gobs of bills and paperwork to deal with. Blergh. Oh and the good part-- snuggle puppies! :pupkiss:

Enjoy the day, my friends!

Good afternoon Felis! When I was a kid many many years ago, Halloween wasn't like it is now. We wore costumes with plastic masks that made your face sweat and itch, we went to a few houses in the neighborhood and that was about it. Now it is such a huge and commercialized deal. But my family has always loved spooky things so we don't mind too much. However, just about everything that we make is all from recycled or dollar store stuff. A couple of years ago, I made these awesome apothecary jars from old medicine containers. Some paint, hot glue and they look old and creepy. Same with my floating candles- painted toilet paper tubes.
yum, I love pumpkin soup!
Did you take any pictures of your pumpkins lit up? I never got around to putting candles in ours. :(
Thanks for the good thoughts for Cait. She was regretting that she even told then that she had a history of an ulcer since they seemed to automatically assume that is what this was. Sorry that your Drs are difficult to deal with too.

Nancy- how neat to try all of these foods. Where my parents live, it is so culturally diverse that there are tons of Korean markets, but there is *nothing* like that up here in the mountains. Hope that your DH is feeling better today.

Trudy- I cannot imagine how much that cost to buy candy for that many trick or treaters. I bought 5 bags and grumbled about wasting $15 of grocery money on them. We do have lots left over so at least Gary and the kids will be happy.
Is MIL doing better? My dad has Meniere's Disease and gets really really bad vertigo too but it doesn't sound the same as what happened to your MIL. I hope that she is ok.
That is so cool about the origins of your town's name. My hometown is Parsippany and is named after the Parsippannong Tribe that lived there first. I love history. :)

Jean- My family has all of their ballots mailed in too. We have a Gov's race and Chris Christie's Lt Gov is running and polling decently far behind Phil Murphy. Murphy was not my first choice (or 3rd or 5th LOL) in the primary but so much better IMO than anyone associated with Christie. (apologies to anyone who likes Christie, but with an 18% approval rating in NJ-- that probably isn't too many ha!!)
I love Mail-In Ballots. The gift for your DH's cousin will be very appreciated.
How was last night's game??

xoxo!!

good morning - So sad to think of the tragedy in NYC. You feel sort of safe in a bike path and then to have the truck just barrel down that path so so sad. Not sure why but we really did not have many kids. I have so much candy left over it is sad. We had only 3 set of trick or treaters. I really thought that there would be more. My neighbors kids were really cute he was a storm trooper. It was a pretty calm day my DH rested and is off to work today. Me I got Luther out for his walk and back and did some scrapping. My pork chops with potatoes and kale salad. It was a basic recipe but they added a special seasoning for the pork chops and then a salsa verde so it was fun. Today I am going out to dinner with my girlfriends so I am not cooking. It will be fun. And then tonight talk about sports - game 7 of the World Series and then at 10pm my Devils play the Canucks in Vancouver. So a late night. I will be taking a nap.

Chris so sorry that your Halloween was so different this year. I am going to have to start watching Stranger Things. My son really likes it. I have seen some of the young stars on talk shows and they sure make the show seem interesting. Hope today goes well.

Felis hope you had a nice end of the month and a great start to this month! Nothing like a new month.

Trudy that is scary about your MIL and how the doctors do not seem to take into account her past history. Hope it is only vertigo. Hope your day goes well and you have a fun hike! I saw my weather for the up coming winter and it is warmer and wetter and your area is colder and wetter. I hope for snow not rain in my area.

Rae how is the new monitor working out. Do you use both? You are so busy! Hope you got a lot done to add to invoice.

Jean wow I was so happy to see that we get a game 7. And I like to vote in person. I am still looking at who to vote for. I don't like it when I don't really know the candidates that well.

Have a great day all!

Good morning ladies. I was very busy yesterday with work so not online much and I was a bit bummed out b/c I got my cholesterol results and they were a bit higher than six months ago so now it is really high. The doctor called right away to make an appt and wants to get me on medication right away. I'm so conflicted about it. I have read a lot about the side effects and don't want to take it but I also don't want a stroke or heart attack either. D is pissed at me b/c he says I should do as the doctor says and take the medication. There is a lot of info online about it but not by an reputable doctors that I can use as an argument for my doctor and D. I'm not happy about this and don't know what to do. So I stayed mostly offline yesterday, working, and trying to research online as much as I could.

So I'm not very chatty right now. I'm trying to come to come to a decision on what to do and have put my appt off until next Thurs so I have more time to think about this. Having familial high cholesterol runs in my family so its no surprise that my arteries are clogging up. My mom's arteriosclerosis was very bad and she almost died before having surgery (she hadn't gone to a doctor on 20 yrs so didn't know she had it), then she was on meds, had 2 heart attacks, then had open heart surgery and died 5 yrs later of organ failure from the medications. So, if I'm a bit quiet for a few days, you know why.

Taz was a quivering unhappy mess last night. We had about 150 screaming laughing kids which was so much fun but not for Taz. He sat at the top of the stairs looking out, ears flat and shaking. Then when the fireworks started he laid down behind Ds chair and just shook for about 2 hrs, then crawled under the bed and hid. He had me up, scratching and whining at the door 3 times last night, every time fireworks/firecrackers went off in the schoolyard behind us. I can't believe the police didn't come shut them down in the middle of the night (the last time was about 3:30).

We're having trouble with my new monitor working with my old monitor so this wkend it is going back to the store and we're getting something else.

On top of everything else, I'm crazy busy with work right now. If I continue to have trouble with keeping up with the increased workload I am sad to say I may have to give up my CT spot here. I don't want to but I just don't seem to have much time to comment, make pages or keep on top of my challenges. Ugh.

Chris - so sorry to hear Cait is in pain. Hope things improve quick. I guess it is a blessing that G didn't do a big display and then hardly no one comes to see it, that would be frustrating. Sorry your movie didn't work out. Ours didn't either. Jen came after work to help give out candy and it was almost non-stop from 5:30 until 8:30 so we didn't get to watch our movie either (Logan).

I hope everyone is doing well, I need to get going, got to hop in the shower, take Taz to daycare and get home b/c the Brick will be calling soon to confirm their appt to come today to see D's chair.

So have a good day, everyone and hopefully I'll get a chance to pop back in later.

Morning ladies... A pretty quiet Halloween night here last night, but then I figured it probably would be. We only had 36 kids show up at the door so a ton of candy left over. I have no desire to eat any of it, so told DH to keep some for himself and take the rest to work. Off to my hike today as it may be the last of the sunny morning we see for a bit. Looking forward to catching up with all the great people on the hike!

Chris - It was a very strange Halloween for everyone! Especially horrible that there was the attack in NYC! When will it ever end?? Hope that Cait is feeling better today and also hope that your Gary gets out of his funk and gets his creative mojo working again! Good luck with your paper work and bills not a fun job for sure!

Nancy - That is sad the your numbers were also down for Halloween night, my grandson and granddaughter were also Star Wars characters I will do a page I am sure of the photo that they sent to me and it will be my October calendar page also. Mason would not put on his costume and have a picture taken, so not sure how his Halloween night was yet. Hunter was a Dragon, so cute!! Yes we are expecting a cooler wetter winter this year, hopefully all the snow will be on the mountains and not down here, I would rather have the rain, you don't have to shovel that! :becky:

Rae - Oh dear, such a worry for you my friend! Something that you are really going to have to sit and think about for sure! However if there is a history of high cholesterol in your family perhaps you should be on the meds. But then the side effects!! Oh dear maybe there is some other solution to get your numbers down that does not affect your diet, something herbal?? I feel so bad for you!! Now to hear that you might consider giving up your CT here at the O?? perhaps you could just get someone else to take over your challenges for a couple of months? Let me know if you need some help! Try to not stress too much about all of this (easy for me to say) LOL. We are all here for you!

Jean - What a nice idea for me to sit and paint the scene from my window, I really should do that because I know that I will not live here for the rest of my life, eventually this place will be to much for DH and I to care for and it would be nice to have a nice painting to remember it by. You had a busy day the other day getting all of your chores done and off the list. Hope that you are enjoying a beautiful quiet day today!

Ok I better get my lunch packed and fill my water supply for my backpack. I hope you all have a nice afternoon/evening!

This morning DH went to get all weather floor mats installed in the new car. These are better than the old ones as they come up around the edges. Now all the snow I track in won't be getting out of them. Bird club meeting tonight but I don't want to go as World Series game 7 will be the very last baseball game of the season. We'll see.

Chris, so sorry your Halloween was not up to par at all. Still, Gary has a reason to be glad he didn't make that huge investment in decorating. Hope Cait is better and the paperwork is OK.

Nancy, hope the dinner out is early enough not to miss any of the game. And then hockey too! Sounds great.

Rae, so sorry you have such worries now. Maybe Trudy has a good idea of alternative treatment? You are good at research, so I know by next week you will at least be well informed. It would be such a shame to have to drop from CT here. Hope something works out.

Trudy, I hope you do paint the view. It would be a treasure. Seems curious that so many had few kids coming last night. We don't do the candy thing, but it even seemed quieter on our street although there were still kids being brought by car which I've always thought was weird/awful as our neighborhood has small lots so no long distances to walk.

Felis, hope the month started well for you.

Happy November to everyone.

Hello ladies,
today we fetes the Day of the National Revival Leaders, when we remember for all these noble men which are work hard to keep our culture till we was under slavery. In many museum and library is have special programs. But actually I chose to stay at home. We catch good sale at the online book store, so this will be great for Christmas gifts.
It was cold but sunny day, but we couldn't expect other from the becoming winter, so all is fine. Even the afternoon was very good and we had for fun with the dogs.
Yesterday I fell on the stairs, they are only few stairs, so I just hit my butt and shoulder, it was more embarrassing than painful. I don't know what happened, did stairs was wet or because of my shoes, no idea. But today I wake up with muscle pain at whole my body, nothing serious but very uncomfortable. Looks like my brain give wrong signals to the body. So I preferred to stay at home and play with my children, then to go on the celebrations. And now will go early to the bed for some refreshing sleep.
Beside of that, all other was perfect beginning of the month.

Chris, hope Caitlyn will feels better after take a break! Your upcycle decoration sounds so cool! Yes, I take a photos of our pumpkins lit up and I plan to scrap them these days till people still are on Halloween mode, but I'm very busy till the end of the week so will see! Sorry, that your night wasn't so festive as should be!

Rae, how bad about your health condition! Looks like you are in a difficult situation, but I'm sure you'll take the best decision weigh all the arguments! Sorry for your mom!

Trudy, I can imagine how hard is to be away from your kids at these funny moments, but the good of the modern world is that you can immediately to see online what they do. I'm curious to see your October calendar page with their costumes! What a interesting and proper for Halloween, story about the lake name. So pretty place and with contradictory and intrigued story. I agree that a walking trail around it will be wonderful, especially to can go circle around it on dog walk.

Jean, I saw your pretty weekly page, but I'm still not find time to read it, sorry, I'll fix that soon! I'm sure your cousin is liked it very much the card and the booklet! I hope the baseball game worthwhile to miss the Bird club meeting! Have a fun!

Nancy, I wasn't hear for NY, before you and Chris, to comment it here. It's makes me very sad too! Crazy world! I think that this is one of the reasons for the quiet Halloween, looks like Trudy said, parents are prefer to keep the child at home and not so many to be on the street yesterday. Hope that your husband is feeling better! Looks like you'll have busy but fun evening with all these games!

Have a fun evening, my dears! And Good night, for me !
