Baking Day 2021 is a wrap! 12 dozen Walnut Cups (Nut Tassies) and 12 dozen Walnut Balls (Russian Tea Cakes). And we didn't break any. weeellllll........ we broke a few but that was on purpose. You can only eat the broken cookies before Christmas. Funny how only four cookies, one for each of us broke. ;)

Scott ended driving down to a county testing site, which took him an hour online to get swabbed. Cait and I ordered at-home tests from the state, we should get them today and then have to log into Zoom to do the test with a lab tech guiding us. But the county is having a drive-through site open today and they are doing rapid tests as well as PCR. It might be a good idea to do that instead, we will know for sure before the family is all together in 2 days (gulps)
I was supposed to clean for my friend but we decided it wasn't worth taking any chances since he is off to see family this weekend and his mom is in her 90s. I am picking up groceries this morning and wow, I am so glad that I have that spot.

If I don't; go to the testing site today, I might end up just puttering around here, who knows, maybe some scrapping will be possible?
Have a fab day!!!

I had to take a quick break.
As I was typing about my day, I decided it would be smart to grab an online shopping spot for next week. If cases are going to be as bad as they were the last few days (NJ had almost 7,000 new cases yesterday alone), it is going to get very difficult to get spots soon.

Anyway-- *puts on a happy face*
:D:D:D:D

@LSlycord The Snoopy made me smile! IKWYM about needing a schedule so you know days and times. WTG Shaun!
And WTG to you for being organized last year!
What did you decide to do with your day?

@Susan - s3js Thank you so much for the baking soda suggestion. I hadn't heard of using that for dust mites. Our dryer does get really hot, she can maybe run everything through a second time. I really appreciate your suggestions. She takes Zyrtec every day and was taking Allegra at night. She had had issues with her immune systems being out of wack since she was treated for Late Stage Lyme. It never worked itself out.

@scrap-genie yay!!! You know that the Solstice makes me happy, I am going to be looking out my windows to see the longer days. :) How awesome that they were able to do a holiday H&S, that had to put everyone in a holiday spirit.
Thank you so much for your confidence in me. It is quite a pattern this time of year. I have the baskets all done, only one more gift to buy (Moscato for Leah and thankfully, liquor stores are the one plentiful thing in my town LOL), cookies all done, and just a few gifts left to wrap. It really will all come together as long as no one in the family tests positive in the next few days :D
Bwuahhaah!!! Sorry about getting you into the gnome crafting. He is really cute!! What did you use for his nose? I made mine with Sculpy but yours is so shiny.

@mom2triplets04 I have a bad attention span with tv shows too, and I can't remember names. Add in non-traditional names like in Witcher and Wheel of Time (we are enjoying that one as well) and I have a hard time keeping everyone straight.
I love your OLW for 2022. Your 2021 book list will be a big help as you navigate that.
I hope you get to read some fiction. I read a lot of nonfiction this year. The last one I finished was a beautifully written book about slavery and how we view "slave spaces" (for lack of a better word). I am also reading a really lighthearted look at strongmen throughout modern history. Aren't I fun? hahaha!!
How old are your triplets?

@Cherylndesigns Is Ava getting some of the feral cats fixed? There is (used to be? Hopefully still is) a program in NJ where you could get feral cats fixed and released at a very low cost. The catch is how to trap the feral babies.
Did you ever get the motivation to do something? I'd put money that you did.

@tanteva glad that you are feeling lots better. It really is weird how all of us had different combos of vax and boosters (aside from me and Gary we are Moderna x3) and everyone had totally different reactions to each and every shot.
It seems like your holiday prep is coming along well. I bet you are so excited to eat and knit for days.

@LSlycord My allergies are like that, they didn't register when I had testing done years ago but I can always tell when grasses and molds are high. That must have been hard for Shaun getting the side-eye every time he coughed.

@mom2triplets04 IIRC huskies do mature much slower and are "mouthers."
The dog that we have that used to be, (Whisky) she was a street dog before we rescued her so her biting was mostly resource guarding and territorial issues with one of our other dogs. One of the things that was suggested to us,-- give her a toy or bone instead, didn't work, she would go from calm to attack in seconds.
Vit C can help strengthen the blood vessels and iron deficiency can also be a sign from bruising.

Good morning. I have a day ahead...I need to go out with the masses and deal with people. LOL Honestly, I didn't used to be like this. When I went to finish wrapping the gifts yesterday, I realized that the delivery guys had really messed up one of the laptops. Not only was the outer box broken, but when I really investigated I found that the cord (the big plastic part that is part of the cord) was damaged. I seriously don't know how you can do that. So, I'm off to Costco to return that...which feels like a terrible ordeal. So, as long as I'm out, I'm going to head to the jewelers. And make a stop at the Fed Ex store. I will be super cranky pants for sure!!

Yesterday was a good day however. I made my grandma's potato salad and an orange jello salad that uses real whipping cream and orange sherbet and bananas and mandarin oranges. We just had cheeseburgers but the kids were thrilled to have a couple of favorite side dishes...things that take a little longer so I don't often make them for supper.

It was soooo cold this morning. I think it was 46 but felt like 37. I wrapped up in a blanket to sit on the lanai...and we had the gas fireplace going. Trying to increase my water intake so I'm cutting back on coffee. Oh my. We will see how that works today. LOL

@faerywings I had never heard of people having actual allergies but not testing positive for anything. They are pretty sure that dust mites are one of Shaun's allergies but he does a pretty good job of frequently washing his bedding and we have an air purifier for his bedroom so that helps.

@mom2triplets04 hopefully a dog park will help. And just getting through the puppy stage will help too. You are definitely a better woman than I am to not mind the dog hair. It looks like tumbleweed rolling across the floor.

Ok, I'll check in later. I'm off to get ready for my day and dealing with people. I'm going to try to take the approach of being super kind. Because a lot of people need super kind right now. Wish me luck!

I took a PJ day yesterday... and didn't do alot. I slept late then just played around on the computer for awhile then read for quite awhile. Looks like I need to take a day of not doing much after a day of running errands. I still need to go to the city library to pick up my 'on hold' book and return the other library book. I may even try to stop by the used book/dvd store. Haven't been there for almost a month. Really enjoyed the enchiladas and guac lunch yesterday... so glad it turns out the serving sizes I made out of the large container of enchilada sauce is enough for 2 meals. Decided that I would have Turkey and trimmings for both Christmas Eve and Christmas day. Oooops... just realized I need to get 2 pumpkin pie slices out of the freezer.

Chris, so glad to hear the baking day went so well. Had to LOL over how just 4 cookies got broke so you could each have one! Good idea to get tested before the family gets together this weekend. Yes, seems like the number of Covid cases are sky-rocketing everywhere. Did you get snow yet?? Saw on the weather channel that it might hit around there. We are having cold front after cold front going through but no snow in the valley yet.

Linda, yes... that is cold for FL! Glad you have the firepit and can wrap up in a blanket too so you can sit out on the lani. The winds are blowing too much here for me to sit out on the patio. Wow, that salad sound delicious... and so very rich. No wonder the kids like it as a side dish.

Cheryl, hoping the weather is better in your area. I was talking to DD#2 who lives near Branson and she said they had been having quite a few thunder/lightening storms but not very much rain - just lots of wind with them. Think you are only about 80 miles apart so was wondering if you were having the same weather.

Off to get my shower now that the house is warm enough. CYL

I'm really tired today. Mainly my own fault for sitting up & watch TV til 2am. Took the bus in to Mora today, in time for Urban to finish his work day. Then we've been grocery shopping. Can't wait to see what I've forgotten to buy ... you know, you ALWAYS forget something. LOL

Now I have to go and start cooking dinner, and I really should be preparing our cheat balls. I have tons of dishes to prepare tomorrow, and then I do the last stuff on the day of Christmas Eve.

Found this article on Swedish Christmas traditions, if you are interested. Thought it might be great for you, @faerywings , now that you are claiming you are Swedish LOL

If you want to see what Swedish Christmas really is like - check and see if you can find this movie
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0201265/ It's on Netflix here in Sweden. Not suitable for children :)

@fairywings - wow that's a lot of cookies. I made only one batch of cookies and my daughter made chocolate chip. Of course, they are almost all gone. only 2 chocolate chip left and a handful of my crack cookies. OK what is an online shopping spot? I live in NJ. I'm starting to panic since my kids have gone to school and they may catch something. I am at home. We all had our shots but my hubby doesn't want us to get the booster. We did have our flu shots too. I'm currently reading Coffee Self-talk. My triplets are 17 years old. Teens and driving. They are currently using my car and of course, the issue of sharing is coming up again. Today they were fighting over who was getting the car. Luckily 2 of them work at target and one works at an ice cream shop. They all go to the same school so they have to alternate who drives. All 3 have licenses yet only 2 are driiving every day. My one is afraid to drive even though she has her license. I keep telling her that she needs to practice driving because she appied to Rutgers and if approved she will have to drive there.

@LSlycord - just got off the phone with the puppy daycare for Myla. She will start JAN 5. Wish us luck. I'm hoping she gets along with the other dogs and is worn out from play. We has a trial run that day to see if she can play with other puppies. I already warned them that she is a biter. Hope it all works out as I'm losing. hope that this will improve. Again she got my wrist this morning and I have a bruise there now. Right now she is sleeping finally.

@tanteva - what is cheat balls?

@BrightEyes - oh to have a PJ day would be awesome. Nope not here. This dog wakes up at 7 am. maybe once I get her into puppy play I will be able to take a nap and or get errands done while she's at the camp. It's from 10 to 3. I sure hope she gets approved to give me a bit of a break. I know people do it because they work but I feel trapped and constantly with this dog. It would be nice to be able to get back into my craft room. Right now I'm stuck in kitchen and going outside every hour or so. She's exhausting. Feel like I have the triplets again but worse since I get bitten all day long.

You all were talking about allergies. Before Covid I was taking vertec every day. Now, since I'm home I haven't (knock on wood). I also had my flu shot. I only go out to food shop or doctor visits or walk the dog.

Good morning ladies. I'm heading out for groceries. Wish me luck. I expect the store to be busy and picked over but hopefully I get the most important things. Jen is coming over mid day for a doggie playdate with Bella. Then I'll get some wrapping done and might get some cookies made. Looks like tomorrow morning I'll be able to head to the bird sanctuary for a few hours. Might get some drizzle but doesn't look like lots of rain in the morning.

@faerywings Fingers crossed you all test negative and stay healthy.

I'd better get out of here. Have a good day everyone.

@LSlycord Yeah. One tornado was to the east of us about three miles and Mayfiled, which took the most vicious of the hits is about 18 miles west of us. We moved to western Kentucky from Oklahoma where tornadoes are frequent occurrences. But we didn't expect them in the winter here. Heck, even the rest of the year they aren't common here. There are lots of folks offering a hand up in Mayfield. The outpouring always amazes me. It's that frontier mentality that shaped this nation - neighbors helping neighbors always!
I'm glad we managed a weekend with oiut them. Two in a row was enough. The power was only off for 12 hours with the first, but the internet has only just stablized. At least I hope so. It was out for awhile yesterday. Boo!

I am so sorry that you went through that. I'm from Iowa so we have had our share of tornadoes but they were never like what you just had and we had basements. Iowa did have a derecho in 2020 that did a massive amount of damage but again nothing like what happened to Kentucky. I hope the internet stays on for you. That would be awful. So grateful that you are ok however.

@mom2triplets04 Laura, I sure hope that the doggy day camp helps. It is not fun to need to hide from the dog.

@BrightEyes love PJ days.

@bcgal00 I am making my list for Christmas dinner now then off to the grocery store.

@tanteva I love the way the Swedish prepare for Santa.

And, the Costco run was easy! They had a special door to go in for returns. I was first in line. They credited the money back to my account. Of course, I now have no laptop for Sydney to unwrap. I guess hers will be a mocked up photo of a laptop. LOL
