hey O-zies!!! It is 7.15 am but is so darn dark and dreary that it feels much earlier in the morning. As it is, the days are getting much shorter and all of the stores have Autumn/Back to School stuff. Did I tell you that Cait when shopping and came home with two new spooky dessert plates? She scours the stores this time of year because she uses spooky stuff year-round. That reminds me that I am going to need to look for her birthday present soon, if I wait until September, the Halloween things are picked over.
Mentally, I am not prepared for any of that, I try to hold on to every last minute of summer that I can. heh.

Yesterday was nowhere near as hot as they were forecasting. It was humid but not hot. It is supposed to be the same today with heat warnings, but unless the sun comes out, I don't think it will be bad again. I worked up a sweat scrubbing the cabinets in and out, climbing up and down the ladder. Today I am cleaning for my friend so I am probably going to be feeling the same.
Other than the kitchen, I don't think I got much of anything else done. I made tomato and mozz salad for diner last night and I think I used too much garlic. That is a first! I mean, that is unheard of in my family. If a recipe calls for 2 cloves, we all automatically double it. I don't even know how many cloves I used but the tomatoes had a bite to them.

Yup, I am off to clean this morning and finish all of the things that I didn't do yesterday.

Have a wonderful day!!

@tanteva How in the world did you all not break an ankle wearing clogs in the winter?
Those clogs are really cute!! Are they painted?

@bcgal00 I gave Cait that hug from you and she is sending one back to you, the dogs, and to Bailey :)
hope you got everything done that you needed to do.
How is your back holding up?

@Cherylndesigns OMG, that Ava is tooooo much!!! I bet that she and Cait would hit it off and come up with some kooky stuff. It is probably a good thing that they live on opposites sides of the country
Sleep Mode is my BFF and Phone Setting and I hate when I do that same thing. But at least you got to see your very cool grandson! Good thoughts on the new school year, I hope that it is as close to normal as it can be.

Swedes have skillz - no snow stops us from being fashionable LOL

Yes the clogs are handpainted at the "factory" where they make Dala Horses. I say factory within "s because the Dala Horses are pretty much hand made.

Morning, gals. Moving slow today - it will be a recovery day. Had so much fun yesterday at our Farewell lunch for the RH chapter. One of the member's son came and took photos of the group. He was so good - didn't mind taking photos with our cameras in addition to his 35mm camera. Then the gals presented Dottie and I (Co-Queens of our chapter) with a gift cards and coffee mugs with photos of some of our gatherings. We shared lots of laughter, memories of past events, and just had a wonderful time as we ate lunch. It was a delightful way to close out 17 years as a chapter. One gal stayed to help me move a few things back in place and gather up the decorations. Still have a few things to put back but will rest the back today and do it later this week. Tomorrow I should go to base to pick-up Rx and buy groceries at the commissary if the back allows.

The good news is that we can see the mountain today - although it is still hazy from smoke... not as bad as it has been, thank goodness. It got to 100* yesterday and humidity was high but no rain.

Chris, you are smart to get Halloween stuff for Cait right now while it is stocked up at the store.

Had to LOL over those wearing clogs. I never had a pair. I tried a pair on and managed to kick them right off my foot when I tried to walk in them. Oh, my goodness, Eva, I would have broke my ankle if I tried to walk in the snow wearing clogs.

Off to get dressed then onto the recliner with the massaging unit. CYL

Good afternoon! Not winning the battle with a sinus headache today, AT ALL! May need to take some more meds and hit the bed again for a while!

@faerywings Chris, I agree with you.....you can never have too much garlic! Well, apparently you can, but I haven't had.....yet! I cook just about EVERYTHING with garlic of some form.....minced (pre-minced) or grated (in the spice section) or fresh. From the veggies I roast in the oven to the meat I bake, too! And, don't forget the peppers and onions!

It has been hot and muggy here, too! Last week was beautiful with low humidity, but this week has been yucky again!

@BrightEyes Kay, I pray your backache is much better after resting it today! They make you hurt all over! Hopefully the massaging will help tremendously!

@tanteva Eve, the Martens I could wear! Clogs, not so much! I am a clutz when it comes to walking in much more than tennis shoes or flip flops, LOL! I'll have to go back and check out the picture of you in the clogs. I bought these shoes for my wedding, only because I knew I was going to have them on for a very short time and knew I would kick them off as soon as possible! I haven't worn them since!

Off to take some more meds! Have a great afternoon!

Yes, it was worth being waked up early to see his sweet face on the first day of school. Yes, I'll bet Ava and Cait would be instant BFF's! Ava is up for just about anything at any time! I can't believe the things she does. Did I tell you she got her River Dive Certificate? I might have. They went AT NIGHT!! She said you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. They only had one light and a couple of the women freaked and had to go back up - she said it was terribly claustraphobic! She got a job in the Dive Shop and hated it - she said it was her shortest job yet. She made it through the first day and that was it. We were laughing about it at dinner last week and Roger was really giving her a hard time. I told them I could beat that - my first job - as a receptionist for a doctor - never even made it a day. I panicked when he told me I had to wear a nurse's uniform with those nurse hats nd those ugly white nurse shoes. Hey, I was like 18, very shallow. ROTFLMBO Roger declared me the winner. He agreed that it wouldn't have been a good look for me. When I applied for the receptionist job, I had NO idea about the uniform.

I have to go pick Alyssa up after she gets off work today. She wants to get some driving miles in for her driver's license that's coming up in December. I don't think she has very many miles logged, so I told her she'd better giddyup. She called me last night at 9 PM - Chuck and I were all snuggled in watching Netflix. She wanted me to go night driving with her. LOL I told her I'd take her today. Funny part, I can't see very well at night - I don't even drive anymore at night. I reminded her of that and she said "Oh, that's ok Cici, I can see". Kids! I told her that wasn't the point. She's driving on MY license and I'm responsible for her. Chuck said, "WHAT????" Never a dull moment.

I'm going to run - well, walk and get myself together before Lyss calls me. Again, I don't even know what time that will be.

Waving to all.

Today was a big day for me. The senior center genealogy group met at the center, in person. We last met there 17 months ago. Since it's been all Zoom. The core six of us all came but none of the occasionals. I did have a Zoom session up if anyone wanted to come remotely, but none did that. It was wonderful. Though not required, we all masked and sat somewhat distanced. But we could pass things around to share.

Last month I commented during my week-long class (on Zoom) but haven't been too connected since somehow. Eva @tanteva said to let her know if I had any Swedish ancestors. Not so far as I know, but one DNA testing company claims I have 9% Swedish ethnicity while another company analyzing the same data doesn't agree. Would be nice if it was true.

I've been amazed by the boot, clog and shoe thread. Cowboy boots look so alien to where I live, but I remember as a child being so jealous of another little girl who had cowgirl boots. I had other parts of the gear, but boots were too pricey. I did like shoes a bit at one time, but doubt I could walk in anything fancy today.

Felis @felis I enjoy seeing your crochet projects and hearing about the online class. Sorry the work schedule is cutting into your fun time.

Chris @faerywings I love the LO of the Christmas in July. You and Gary looked wonderful. With her before school starts anxiety, it is once again clear Cait is your DD.

Seem to have run out of steam (though it's a bit steamy here, especially after two hours of AC at the senior center).
Waving HI to all.

Those percentages are to be taken with a grain of salt. They're basically based on their own tests & what people have stated that their heritage is. But they do give a hint.

Where have you done your test? We did ours at FamilyTreeDNA (+ I uploaded my data to MyHeritage when it was free a while back). I think it's fun to check it out. I'm mainly Scandinavian, but also a chunk of Finnish & Eastern Europe. I have tracked most of my lineage down to 1700s, and even further back in time in some lines.

Coolest thing is that, though DNA, I finally found out who my great grandfather was. My grandfather never knew who hos father was, but a couple of years ago, mine and my uncle's DNA solved the puzzle.
