Hey there, O-zies!
Is everyone recovering from the holiday? Is your house clean yet?
My answer: 1. Somewhat. 2. Oh hellllll no!!!

I spent most of my day cleaning up stuff but the more I cleaned up the dog toys, the more stuffing seemed to explode everywhere. They got spoiled and every toy they got has been ripped or de-squeaked on some level. I saw a video on Twitter this morning of a zookeeper trying to clean up after a baby panda broke his toy-- at times I felt like that with Whisky :D

Today is going to be more of the same, I need to finish my food shopping order. Fold more laundry. If I can find my floor, I am going to vacuum. Big plans, eh? :D

HAGD!!

@LSlycord I sure hope that it is warmer for you soon. We are going to warn up into the 40s, maybe over 50 by Friday which will make it easier to take down the lights on the house.
How neat to find some new links in your family tree, I am sure the photos were appreciated!
I think I am going to take down the tree this weekend. I don't think I have it in me to do it in the next couple of days- but then I might get a bug in my head and have to do it "right now!!"
ooooh, how lovely to be planning another family vacation!! ♥

@BrightEyes Look at you, all gorgeous and golden in the avatar!
It has been nice (not the best word but the only one I can come up with) to see how far Scott has come in the past year. He and Sam seem to be really good for each other. Yesterday was her and Daniel's birthday- he should have been 21- and he was by her side the entire time.
Have a fun time watching all of the B-way shows-- do you sing and dance along too?

@tanteva *high five* on completing all of the challenges! Good luck getting to see a Dr for your ear, I hope that it isn't too painful today

@vickyday What a lovely thing that Ilene celebrates the holiday with your family. My BFF is family like that and it means so much to all of us. Yeah, I don't envy the mom having to explain budgets and finances to little kids on a toy-buying spree! LOL!
Shame on your kitchen fairies for bailing on you. Mine did too! boo!
Mark seems like he is very easy to please, let him work outside and have food for him to eat and he is happy :D
Oh wow, I crochet instead of knit because I can't coordinate two needles, just looking at what you have rigged up there is making me cross-eyed

@bcgal00 I bet that going shopping was a good distraction for Jen, I cannot imagine how hard and exhausting it has to be for her. You're a great mom and friend to her ♥

@Cherylndesigns Your Christmas dinner(s) sound wonderful and relaxing - and delish! I wish I had a Nancy's Pie here *g*
I hope that you aren't too tired today

@BrightEyes I love that you make your meals into a true presentation. I have to admit that when it's just me and Gary, we sit in front of the TV most nights. Not the best habit to get into. I admire you so much for making that effort, it's beautiful.
And look at that guac! Mmmmmmmmmm!!

Vicky- can you eat cilantro? Maybe that is what leaves the aftertaste? Maybe make some without it?

Good morning friends. Yesterday was productive! So exciting! Got both trees down and put away. I wish I had counted but definitely have 100+ ornaments to wrap in tissue before they get put away. Each ornament is different...most have NOEL on them. A few are from special vacations (Paris, Hawaii, Mexico) and a few are from the kids (I used to buy them ornaments, they have made some, and we have one for each of them when we were waiting for them to come home). Because they are all different, I have so many memories for each one. Some are dated...the earliest one that is dated is 1988.

But we got it done. Everyone "helped"...well, kind of helped. Some more than others.:rolleyes:Christmas TreeThen, since we had some of the boxes out anyway, I decided to dig into one of the boxes. I shredded and purged a bunch of old stuff. I was just about to get rid of some sheet music. It is pretty sentimental for me. Mom would play the piano and I would stand and sing. The songs were old like "Yes, We Have No Bananas" and "Barney Google" and I still remember the lyrics. But also in the pile, I found some sheet music that my grandmother had. She had written her name on it and it was her maiden name. I looked at the published date and realized that she probably bought it when she was still a teenager...I'm sure younger than Syd. And, now it is in a paper stack that I can't seem to throw away. UGH...

I also need to call Social Security. I filed on November 2 and they still haven't reviewed it. I guess that I need to make an appointment to go to one of the offices...I understand that sometimes gets them in gear. Mine is completely straight forward...just filing against my own record...no spouse on my claim...good grief, how long can it take? They need better computer systems or more people or both!

LOL for that panda! I'm sure he's Discord's spirit animal.

Been to the dr. The inflammation is healed. Problem is I have fluid behind the eardrum, and the pressure from that is what's causing the pain. She prescribed me some nose spray with cortison to take 1 time per day. Also, she taught me a thing I should do, 100 times every day she said. LOL Just pinch my nose, fill my lungs, and "blow" out through the nose. (Ie though I'm blocking it with my fingers) This will even the pressure in my ear, and will eventually fix it. But it can take weeks. Yay! If it's not ok in 6 weeks, I need to get back.

I've probably had this "brewing" in my ear since I had the cold (omicron?) back in spring. Note to self: go to the dr if you feel a bit bad, don't wait til it hurts so much you can't cope.

Dr & dentist is in the same building & share waiting room, so after the dr, I went over to the dentist, and changed my appointment. I was supposed to fix 2 teeth tomorrow (nothing major), but I felt no, I don't want to deal with that now. First fix the ears. Got a new appointment on Jan 23.

@vickyday Yes to the thing about cilantro Chris mentioned. It's a genetic thing, some people just can't eat it. They say it tastes like soap almost. Luckily I don't have that gene. I got "blessed" with the genes that give you lactose intolerance, and the gene that make you be able to smell asparagus in your wee. LOL

Morning, all. I feel like a 'fresh new me' since I changed my avatar.... Of course, the 'real me' still has the aches and pains in real life. But I do smile when I see my avatar as it brings back such wonderful memories of Bill and I together at the ball. I was wearing a beautiful gold lame formal that I had made... it made me feel so elegant. Ah, what a night... dancing together in a ball room overlooking the San Diego harbor. It was the stuff that dreams are made of.... <<< sigh >>> ... such beautiful memories. And that is the note I want to end this year on and begin the New Year.

Chris, I don't usually dress up the table like that but do it on special occasions to give my spirits a lift. BTW, my kitchen table is against the half-wall to the family room and I can see the TV while sitting there. << wink >> A lot of days I use the book stand on the table so I can read while eating. I have a problem with cilantro so don't use it in any of the Mexican meals I made.
ETA: It is not cilantro... it is chipotle I have problems with!!!

@LSlycord - good for you that you got the trees down and all those ornaments wrapped and put away. Oh what memories they must have for you. Several years ago, I decided to change the theme of the Christmas tree. When the kids were small, I had a lot of small Santas, elves, and reindeer on the tree - so I divided them up and gave them to the kids to have as memories for their own tree. Hope you hear from Social Security soon...

@tanteva Glad you went to the doctor about the pain in the ear still. My DH had fluid behind his eardrum once and it was painful. Hope the exercise the doctor prescribed works quickly.

@vickyday Yes, I was working on the new siggy when you posted yesterday so the old one was still up. I like that both avatar and siggy use the same photo... and are looking forward to a new year. Am hoping and praying that 2023 will see an end to Covid and the need to be so careful when out and about. So sorry that your DH's family is not close. But glad that he has you and your love for him.

I did do a bit of pick-up in the house then changed sheets on the bed. So nice to crawl into a freshly made bed last night. I even got the sheets washed/dried and back into the linen closet. DD#3 called and we had a nice long chat. She is off work this week and will be coming down for a visit. Her son maybe interested in my SUV so may come down to take a look at it. I am going to prevail on him to take it to carwash when he test drives it. :p

Coffee cup is empty again. HAGD

LOL...@faerywings, I love that baby panda. I couldn't stop watching him. And yes, Scott and Sam having each other has been a real gift for both of them!

@BrightEyes that avatar...oh my goodness!!! Stunning! And the musicals are fabulous. My favorite is Sound of Music...my very first musical that I went to at the movie theater with my mom. We had such a good time together...seeing so many musicals through the years. I miss her. Des Moines Civic Center brought in lots of shows and we saw Cats and Phantom together. The last show that we saw together was South Pacific...I got it for her for Mother's Day. She wasn't well but she pushed through and we got to see it.

@tanteva I hope that you were able to get back into the doctor for your ear and I hope that they can figure out what is wrong!

@vickyday I can't even begin to imagine working on something as complex and tiny as those little socks. They are precious for sure.

So, while I've been typing this...and going through boxes...I see that @BrightEyes and @tanteva have both been in here. So I'm going to post this and then come back for more.

Good morning ladies. Slept until 8:30. I haven't done that in years. I think my brain and body finally relaxed and needed to recharge. Last night we had leftovers and watched the Knives Out movie. It was good (but not great). Kind of overkill for the characters behavior but it was interesting enough to hold our attention and we all lazed around for the evening.

Yesterday shopping was fun. The mall was not very busy. For Jen and I, for women's retail, we like maybe 6 stores so we were able to shop quickly and get out. We both got great deals on boots and slippers and I got sweaters and pajamas.

I wore my pink tweed coat but next time I go out I'll wear one of my new short tweed jackets I got from J and D (they gave me 4, two lighter patterns and two darker red tones). i love everything i got this year. Regardless of our sad funky mood, we somehow managed to pick out really great gifts for each other.

Today I'm taking the dogs to the dog park, it's warmed up to low 40's so they can go have a really good play time. We actually have rain today which is weird since we get almost none here.

Today will be a quiet day, No email from the store so no camera yet. Two of the lenses are ready but there is one more lens coming and the camera so hopefully within the next few days so I can get out for a photo walk with a friend and try it out. I sold almost all my gear except for a few lenses and the p950 camera. That was unexpected, I thought it would take weeks or maybe months to sell. I have a few people interested in the p950 when they get the money so it may sell in the next few weeks.

@faerywings Awesome pics of the kids on FB this morning :)

@BrightEyes What a wonderful memory the avatar brings to you.

@LSlycord How special to have the sheet music. I have nothing of my grandmothers but I have a box of my mom's stuff so not sure what is in there. That reminds me that I should go through it one of these days.

I'm getting coffee, checking the forum and then might do some scrapping or reading, not sure what yet. HAGD everyone.

Good afternoon, all.

It's a balmy 41 degrees right now and will be back up in the 60's by Thursday. That's good news because we have a New Year's Eve party Saturday night. I haven't told you girls about it yet. The nicest restaurant in town is only open for a Roaring 20's NYE party. We've all become good friends with the owner, so we're really looking forward to it. He's been keeping us on the inside track - they're transforming the whole restaurant into a "Speak Easy". We been shopping for the party before Christmas and when we went to that Route 66 light show, Ava bought part of her outfit in a thrift store there. Adrienne got the coolest Gatsby Girl outfit, complete with the long gloves, dress with fringe on the bottom and big feather headpiece. Ava's been finding different pieces in thrift shops - her dress is SO cute - she says she won't be able to eat much this week so it will fit, though. LOL You should have seen us in Adrienne's closet last night trying on her stuff. Ava had been parading around in some of her stilettos and Rog was just sitting at the bar eating and, laughing at us. Ava found a wig from Halloween and put it on him, then found an old hat and put that on top of the wig. He's a good sport and the pictures she took will probably end up on FB. It was just the 4 of us there last night. Chuck didn't feel like going, so we were in rare form.

My outfit is arriving by 9 PM tonight. I'm praying that it fits. The first one was just a "smidge" too small, and the pants were really too small. I did a quick return for the next size up. It's a woman's tuxedo. I kept the white shirt, and I got a bowtie and a cool feather hair clip. Adrienne had a small glitzy purse, so I'm all set if the suit fits. If everything fits but the pants, I do have a really nice pair of black pants that I can substitute. So, only the jacket and vest need to fit. I'm going as Julie Andrews in "Victor/Victoria" - the movie from WWII where she played a woman playing a man. One of my faves. I refuse to slick my hair back, though. Roger is going to be a gangster - Adrienne even found him black and white wing tip shoes. We've been having so much fun with this.

That's the latest from the Ranch Shenanigans.

I'm back for some personals.

Chris @faerywings I was cracking up at that video - so true - with kids, dogs, etc. I can just see all the stuffing laying around your house. WHY do they always go straight for the squeakers??? Our big dogs used to destroy any toy in record time just to get to those. Daisy is 50 pounds and she's half lab and half poodle, but for some reason, doesn't tear her toys up right away. She will occasionally tear one up, but it's not something that she's obsessed with like our other big dogs were. She's so funny - she "lines hers up" - there will be 4 or 5 toys all in a row. I think they're her babies, maybe.

Linda @LSlycord good for you for getting both your trees down. That's SO cool that you have all of that sheet music. That's a real treasure - especially with your memories of singing while your mom played piano. My dad used to sing those same songs - I remember them well. He loved all of those funny songs. There was one artist that he loved and his name is escaping me right now but he sang all of those funny songs.

Eva @tanteva I have the same asparagus gene that you do. ICK - that smell - makes me almost never want to eat it and I love it. I don't think cilantro bothers me. I grow it for Adrienne, she loves it. I give her fresh cilantro all the time during growing season.

Kay @BrightEyes I can just see your elegant dress - boy were they the "thing" - gold lame'- I had forgotten all about that. They were so smooth and sexy. Did you make it or did you have it made? I'll bet it fit you like a glove. Ava's NYE dress is kind of lame' it's black and a bit stretchy. Your post really took me back to all of those dreamy nights dancing and romancing. LOVED your post. Thanks for the "moment". Could you see the water from where you were dancing???

Rae @bcgal00 I'm so happy that you and Jen got out to shop yesterday and that you got your mind off the sadness for a while. Nothing like a little retail therapy, that's for sure. It works every time for me. Sounds like you found lots of bargains.

Vicky @vickyday is Mark back to work on the cabin or did he have to go back to his job? I never know who's off for how long between Christmas and New Year's anymore.

Hope everybody is having a good Tuesday - I have to keep reminding myself of what day it is. I'll be confused for the rest of this week. Should be ok next week, with NYD being on a Sunday, but I can't promise anything.

XOXO

Just had to pop back in to say I have found 'tech solutions' to a few computer/printer problems I have been having lately. It dawned on this morning to check if there is a SD card reader I could buy.... YES!!! It is very reasonable and will plug into a USB port on DH's computer (the SD slot on his is not working). That will save me having to mess around using my old computer to read the camera card. Will pick it up the next time I am down near Best Buy! And... ta da.... I plugged the USB cord into the printer then into DH's computer - changed the printer default on just his computer from wire-fi network to printer series - and IT WORKS! Wow... so glad to have both of those resolved.

@Cherylndesigns - Yes, I made my dress... in fact, I made most of my clothes for years - including a faux fur coat and several of DH's Navy uniforms. And the dress did fit - almost like a glove - and had the most marvelous slinky feeling as I moved around. And - yes, we could look out the windows from the ballroom and see the bay waters - oh, so romantic!!! Several of the Navy Balls we attended were held in places by San Diego bay. But the most romantic place was in Cairo, Egypt at the Hilton International beside the Nile River. Felt like we were living in a movie!

Here is our photo from the ball:

OHMYGOODNESS Kay!!!! @BrightEyes you literally just gave me goosebumps describing the balls you attended and that photograph - WOW!!! I'm still a hopeless romantic and I can just "feel" those beautiful balls with the water views. My mom used to make all of our clothes and she made my dad's dress suits. I've never known anybody else who made their husband's clothes. That's amazing and I SO remember the feel of lame'.

You'll appreciate this weird story - we used to go to the fabric store and pick out patterns (Mom used to use two or three different patterns to get the look we wanted). Anyway, I'll never forget this particular formal - it was shades of fuscia ,not a long dress, but the formal short length. . It had a beautiful sash and was made out of satin.

I'll be a monkey's uncle - I got to the dance and another girl had one on that was almost identical to mine. We just looked at each other in shock! Both our moms had made our formals. What are the odds??? Truth be told, we both probably picked out the same dress from Seventeen Magazine. That was a very weird event, though. I'd LOVE to see pictures from that ball in Cairo if you ever come across them. I'm sure that was fabulous!! My grandson, Braden, is in the United Arab Emeritus right now and was in Dubai and will be back there in a day or so. He sent us a video of him riding a camel. When you mentioned Egypt, it made me think of where Braden is right now.

Anyway, your dress is fabulous, and your husband was SO handsome!! What a beautiful couple you made. I'm sure you turned a lot of heads. Thanks for sharing that picture!!

I do eat cilantro. I just thought it was the avocado that was leaving the aftertaste! I will try that the next time I make some! Thanks for the tip!
The circular needles I got from Amazon today look like they will be too big for the socks I am making! Even if you start the socks on circular needles they need to be divided onto 3 needles about half way through the sock so you can keep track of all of the slip stitches and knitting 2 stitches together in particular spots.

Good Morning (it is 12:05 a.m. on Wednesday, LOL!)
I had a long day today. Started out with Ilene and Carolyn. Picked them up and went to brunch. Our usual restaurant was closed until tomorrow for the holidays. So we went to another similar restaurant. After brunch (I ate lunch and they ate breakfast) we went back to Ilene's and played Rummikub until 3. Then I had to leave. So I took Carolyn back home and went to a church member's home to sit with her while her girls went to a funeral. (She is in her 90's and her husband was the pastor of our church before he retired and my first husband became the pastor. Her husband died about 5 years after we came.) It ended up that she was going to the funeral, too, since it was a family member who passed. So I was there until her daughter came to pick her up around 6:15. Then I came home.

Mark worked in the woods all day. The temps warmed up into the low 40's so I'm sure he was quite comfortable! Here's a picture of the cabin as it looks right now:

The wood you see stacked on the trailer behind the cabin on the left is wood that Mark has milled himself! He is having so much fun with the mill! He didn't have to saw any wood today and he is not going to saw any more until he needs to which will be soon, I am sure!

I didn't get as much work done on the socks as I wanted to today. I thought I would be knitting while I sat with Mrs. Parks, but she was in a talkative mood! So we talked!

And that was my day!
