I am so excited, today is going to be a good day! I am taking Caitlyn for her second dose which means in two weeks, the family will all be fully vaccinated. What a relief! The other good news is that it is supposed to be sunny and warm and I am going to start prepping my planters. It is happening!
I was able to get about 90% of my work done yesterday which was honestly unsatisfying. It felt like I was still spinning my wheels. It didn't help that after I got all of the tax papers printed and signed by the kids that Caitlyn got a corrected tax form in the mail and now I have to do it all over again. But hey-- it will save her a few bucks on what she owes.
Since I did a decent job getting the stuff off of my list, I did go outside for a while to clear out another area of the yard. I was digging up a dandelion root and when I pushed the trowel in, I saw some of the dirt moving around on the blade. It wasn't dirt, it was a toad! I put him back where he was and scooped some of the dirt around him. I am so glad that I didn't hurt him.
We have a pileated woodpecker that lives in the woods right behind us. He (I guess she??) was pecking away at a log and I saw a smaller bird hopping around near her. I looked more closely and it looks like she has two babies. They flew off a bit and yep, I could see the white tail feathers underneath, and soon after, the little ones were pecking away at the log. It cracks me up how fast and far they can throw the wood chips after they break them off. OTOH-- I am not sure how happy I am going to be when all of them are pecking away and the windows are open.
@scrap-genie or anyone else, do you know if woodpeckers will stay close to each other after they mature?
I tried to get some video of the birds by hanging out of the bathroom window but I am not sure if they came out at all.
The other "fun" thing I did what prepping milkweed seeds that Scott had harvested for me last year. If you haven't seen them out of the pods, they are surrounded by a soft, silky fluff. That goes airborne. Everywhere. Including getting stuck in your eyelashes. LOL! As I was separating the seeds from the fluff, I was wiping the fluff onto a wet napkin so it would stick to it. It worked a bit but there is still fluff flying around the house today. It reminded me of Catzilla when she would shed, she had that super-soft undercoat that would go up my nose, into my eyes. (I miss her, she was a good cat when she wasn't trying to smother me in my sleep). It will be worth it if I can get the seeds to grow and bring some monarchs to the garden.
So that is about it here- Spring is "springing" and you all know how that makes me feel.
HAGD!!
