Happy Thanksgiving to all of my American friends and a huge "I am grateful for you" to everyone.

Grateful: :coffee1:
It's probably the only thing that will get me through the day. I was even more tired by dinnertime last night than I was the day before. But I am on track to have the family here around 4. Gary will help me get the folding table and chairs set up. He has been stressing over the seating. I have 8 people at one table. 4-5 can sit at the folding table, and 3-4 can sit at the pub table. Plus TV trays on the sofa. My guess is the two kids are going to be on laps. In the grand scheme of things, we are all very laid back, not standing on ceremony type of people. Sit on the floor in your PJs if that is what makes you happy. As long as the floor is clean and the food is plentiful, not much else matters to me. It always amuses me how Gary and I stress over different things. His brain is much more logistical-- seating and parking spots. Mine is wired for nurturing and hospitality.

I never got around to getting the stuff organized in my office so that's a first-up task. Both stuffings are ready to go in the oven around noon, fake turkey as soon as they are out. Mashed potatoes will be the PITB task, but I think I am going to cook them in the Instant Pot. Gary wanted me to make regular mashed potatoes as well as the vegan batch I had planned for, but I told him Heck no.
Actually, he said he was fine with vegan potatoes; he'll just load his up with a ton of butter. I can't make the potatoes with salt either, so my parents can eat them. He's going to have to add a ton of salt too.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful day, whatever you do!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Good morning,
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in the US!
Rolls are rising, green beans have been cooking in a crock pot since yesterday afternoon. Potatoes are chopped and in the crock pot, pies are in the fridge. That leaves the turkey, mac n cheese, gravy and rolls to cook. I will be starting the turkey prep in a few minutes. Lunch is "scheduled" for 1:00.
Have a great time with your family and friends and be thankful!

Your life is like mine......on repeat just about every day! But I can still find little things to be thankful for. And I know you can, too. You just don't record them! But they are in your heart! :heartpumppink:
That is such a sweet and thoughtful reminder. They are in my heart!
:thinking2: I simply cannot for the life of me figure out why Mark doesn't want you claiming on things.... :p
You are brave to go to Walmart the day before a holiday! Was it bananas in there?

I wish each and every single one of you a most blessed day tomorrow and a very Happy Thanksgiving (if you celebrate)! And I pray you get to spend lots of time with your family and or friends!
Back at you and yours! ♥

Good morning ladies. I am committed to getting this post made this morning. It is soooo cold here. And the winds gusted at times up to 60 mph in the night. The "feels like temperature" is 14 degrees.
Are you ready to move back to FL yet?
24 lbs of butter is a *lot* of baking. Sounds delish!!
It was a great program and all of the kids did so well. I have a picture of our two turkeys that I'll get in here later today.
*chants* Pic-tures! Pic-Tures!
It's sunny and forecast to get up to at least 70° today. Then down to 21°tomorrow night. Really? Does that even make sense?
No way!! We got up to 59*. Gary opened some of the windows, which I closed as soon as the sun went behind the trees. But it was lovely while it lasted.
My friend has been telling me that I'm supposed to clean the filter in my dishwasher.
No way!! I Googled "Bosch Dishwasher Filter Cleaning" this morning. There was an error code on it when I got up. I had wiped around the filter last week but I didn't know you could take it out. I had to laugh that David disassembled parts of yours only to find out your model doesn't have a filter!
I thought creases down the center of the table was how tablecloths were supposed to look :floorlaugh:
I did too!! I had to use a tablecloth for my Dad's b-day breakfast a couple of weeks ago and my mom offered to take it home to iron. My rule was smooth it out with your hands, throw stuff over it, and no one will notice. Should have known my mom would notice. heheh
Good Morning!
Hold onto you hats. I got quote crazy!!! :floorlaugh: :floorlaugh: Coffee must be strong this morning!!!!
:windy1:

This sounds ............ like a nightmare. And it explains the shake we had yesterday. Wasn't an earthquake but I felt something off in the universe. Now I know it was you ironing the tablecloths!!! I'm with you 100000%, dont iron and dont tablecloth. My MIL is a tablecloth person and always has the table covered. She changes the pattern every month. I dont get it. But I think its generational.
:rotfl:
My mom always complains that she doesn't have a big enough linen closet. It is filled with tableclothes, different colors and patterns and seasons. And it's sooooo silly!
I am going to try one more technique I heard about. It was done for waterfall photos but you can do it with anything. Take a Live Photo. Then you click the "long exposure" button at the top of the photo. Suppose to create a magical misty feel. Gonna try and see what happens. Worse case, delete.
LMK if that works, maybe I can play around with the settings before it snows and I can get a decent shot.

Hugs to everyone!!

Good morning. I woke up at 3:30 and remembered that my ground pork was in the freezer. So I got up to take it out. And then I decided to get started on a few items. Got the eggs boiled and peeled for the deviled eggs. Got the ham balls formed. Got the sweet potato casserole in the oven. And even spent a little bit of time here getting ready for the big celebration.

We are supposed to get at least 4 inches of snow starting tomorrow afternoon. The backyard is fenced but to get to it, you need to go out to the deck and then go down 10 stairs. I've been worried about the dogs (and Brian and I) will handle those stairs when we get bunches of snow. Well, I've been looking at Heat Trak mats and they had a 25% off sale for Black Friday. They arrived yesterday and Brian got them on the stairs. They are pretty expensive but if it prevents a fall, it is worth it. The kids are having a fit but I explained that when you get old, you start worrying about things. And I don't want to worry about the back steps and falling. We will see tomorrow how it turns out!

Back to cooking. But I want each of you to know that I will be thankful for you today as I count my Thanksgiving blessings.

It seems so quiet since we're not doing Thanksgiving here. I can't remember the last time that happened. Even during covid I made it up pretty big just for the two of us -- I needed it that year, for sure. I considered doing laundry but that just seemed too much anti-holiday. It was so nice sitting on the deck yesterday afternoon to read in the sun, nice and warm. By evening the wind was howling. We're just east of the Blue Ridge and when fronts pass through we get something called downslope wind, and it can be a doozy.

We're going out for an early Thanksgiving dinner (lunch?) and if it's not too windy and cold maybe we'll get in a bike ride this afternoon. Otherwise, not much planned for the day. Everyone in the family will expect phone calls, so we'll work those in at some point.

green beans have been cooking in a crock pot since yesterday afternoon.
I have got to know about green beans that you cook for over 12 hours!

My mom always complains that she doesn't have a big enough linen closet. It is filled with tableclothes, different colors and patterns and seasons.
My daughter and son-in-law are using his grandmother's dining room table, and after, idk, 70 years?, of wiping down the wood veneer top it's a mass of long splinters. So tablecloths are a safety necessity. And don't ask me why two perfectly capable, middle aged adults, with ample resources, don't just buy a new table. Keeping my mouth shut.

I explained that when you get old, you start worrying about things.
Ain't it the truth! I'm aways picking things up off the floor, adjusting mats and rugs, making sure to be next to the stair rail, closing cabinets. I'm manic about not leaving the door of the dishwasher open if I'm not standing right beside it. We feel like young 70-somethings and I'd like to keep it that way. There's a mat at the door of our church that is always getting folded up, I guess it gets caught on the corner of the door or something. I've asked them to move it but, nope. But who notices stuff like that when you're 30 or 40?
