Thank goodness we don't celebrate Boxing Day in the US.
*wipes sweat from brow*
I don't think I have one last teeny bit of social behavior left in me. It's all knives all the time. Bwahaha!

How was everyone's holiday? Mine... welp...
It. Was. A. Day. :crying1:

Caitlyn retested as soon as she woke up and----- *drum rolllll* Positive! That started the flurry of texts and phone calls to the family. Scott was fine with coming over. He suspects that the cold he and Sam had a couple of weeks ago was Covid. My ILs said they would come up just to exchange gifts. My parents were planning on coming up to do the same, but my dad fell asleep the second he got to my brother's for breakfast. My mom called me and we agreed it was silly for them to drive all the way up here. Tom's mom and stepfather popped in to see Cait and Tom for 15 minutes which was nice. Caitlyn sat on the stairs covered in blankets and wearing a mask.
Sam came by for a little while to see Gary's parents and left right after. Everyone was in and out of the house by 4 pm. It was so weird since usually I am trying to kick people out by 7-7.30. ;)

I made the mistake of calling my mom to check in with them and see how my dad was feeling. What I thought would be a 5 minute "love you" kind of call... Pfft. Not even close :(

No major plans here other than tidying up. I need to talk to my mom this morning. I might have to go down to her house to pick up some of the leftover food she and my dad can't eat that she was going to bring here. Gift exchange? No clue.

Meanwhile, Sam and her family are having a truly difficult day which keeps my silly complaints in perspective. I cannot imagine how they deal with Daniel's birthday without him and have it her birthday on the same day.
If you can send good thoughts to them, I know they need every bit they can get. :brokenheart:

I hope everyone had a lovely day with their family and friends!
:hug4:

Tell me about your favorite gifts!
My kids always get me the most thoughtful gifts. Caitlyn got me a Bee House!! And Scott got me a hummingbird feeder with a camera.♥ I needed a new feeder but didn't want to ask for one with the camera because they were expensive. I was jumping up and down when I opened it. LOL! The funniest part is an hour later I got a text from my BFF-- it was a photo of a feeder/camera. I snapped a picture of mine and sent it to her. We are gonna figure out how to share our videos with each other :D

Time for personals!

@vickyday How is Mark feeling, any better?

@scrap-genie The Merlin App has been a big help. And I have been reading and googling a lot of info. Little by little I am getting some info and IDing done. It's been so much fun!

@AK_Tracy You have any spoons left today or are you also all knives?
I hope you are feeling fine!
called DD#3 to tell her and she suggested that she would come down one day and we would spend the day watching all 3 of the Fantastic Beasts DVD... while munching on Popcorn and candy!!! :D Sounds like a fun way to spend the day.
oooooh!! Can I come???? I'll bring popcorn! :popcorn1:

@Cherylndesigns (((((((hugs)))))) I hope that being with your family all day got you through last night.
IKWYM about the group chats! I was in ones for the bridal shower and the bachelorette party with Caitlyn's girls and hoooo boy! Ding ding ding --my phone notifications never stopped!
Yeah, the cousins' gifts are always amazing. The craziest part is that some of them only see each other a couple of times a year. Like Juliet's boyfriend- we only see him on Christmas Eve. Dyl lives in DC so we saw him at the wedding and Christmas. But the kids are so close and really get each each other. Tom and Dylan spent an hour discussing geeky stuff - don't ask, it might have been Star Wars or Doom. I have no idea other than it was some words I knew but didn't have a clue other than that. LOL

Merry Christmas to all, here. Thanks for all your kindnesses and making me feel welcome.
Wishing you all a happy day and hope everyone feels well again soon!

We are thrilled that you are here! Hope you had a wonderful time with the family and have loads of new photos to scrap.

Speaking of which-- I think I took a total of 5 pictures and 4 are blurry. Did you have better luck?

Morning, all. Had one of those crazy nights when I woke up off and on several times. Finally gave up at 6 AM and got up. Had to wait for the coffee to be made before I stumbled in to get on the computer.... <sigh> The body is here but think the brain is still wanting to be back asleep in bed.

Had a nice surprise yesterday afternoon... my Grandson#1 (DD#1's son) stopped by for a visit. He is going to come over on Saturday to trim the shrubs, take out a dead one, and clean up the leaves and the yard. Need to get it done before the rain/snow weather hits. We had some snow on the Sandia Mountain just outside of town but none down here in the valley.

Oh..I love Belle's library... Yes, I love seeing bookcases filled with books. I did have a good day. I am now re-reading Book 2 in The World of The Others.

Mark is in the congestion stage and feeling pretty rough. His daughter is supposed to come over today but he is going to let her know about the germs floating around over here... even though I wiped things down with Lysol yesterday, the germies are still working!

Kay, I always imagine the fun, laughter...and even the tears...we would share if we were able to get all of us together!

Prayers for Sam and her family. Remind me about Daniel and who he was....a brother?...a twin???
Daniel is her younger brother who was killed in a car accident a few years ago. It's a double slam to have Christmas and then their birthdays the day after for her and her family.
This year was a huge step forward for her- last year we weren't "allowed" to acknowledge her birthday. This year we can but not with gifts or anything like that. We'll celebrate her at some time in the future when she wants us to.

As long as I am feeling sappy-- Scott had me so close to tears last night. He said he was too when it happened.
Sara (Sam's sister with the two kids) gave Scott a t-shirt that said "Funcle." When Sara was engaged, Daniel was always bugging her to have kids because he couldn't wait to be the fun uncle. She found this T-shirt on Amazon and put it on her Wish List. And there is sat for 3+ years.
She gave it to Scott and said that he earned it. Knowing how close that family is, there is no way that Sara bought that for Scott knowing it was initially intended for Dan, without clearing it with everyone.
here I am, getting all choked up again.

Thanks for the good thoughts and prayers for them. They are such an amazing family- one I am glad to be part of, even happier that Scott found his way to Sam ♥

Good morning,
Happy day after Christmas.
It didn't feel like Christmas to me without the family around and sickness reigning all around. Mark is congested this morning. His daughter is supposed to be here today but he's going to let her know about the germs floating around so she may not come. I'm glad he doesn't have to go to work until the 6th!
Don't know what I'm going to do today. I need to pick up a few things from the store but don't want to get dressed to do it. However, Mark just said he needs to pick up his Ozempic from the pharmacy so I will go to the grocery while he picks that up.
Hope you all have a great day as things are winding down to the end of the year!

Morning all,

I woke up early this morning (about 7) and cat napped until 8, then laid there and listened to music and finally gave up about 9. Well, I made it through the first Christmas. I did better than I thought I would. Last night after I got home, I got a little melancholy, so I started scrapping for my January AJ challenge. Scrap therapy - you know that's what it is for me. Got my page mostly done. I had a super busy day and that helped. I was pretty tired when I got home but keyed up.

I also worked on my blog post for Friday. I HAVE to keep my mind busy - LOL. It's the last Cheery-O Favorites for the year and I have it almost ready to go into "scheduled" so it will automatically post. I have a lot to do because we go to Vegas in 2 days! I'm looking so forward to a total change of pace and spending time with Susie! I'm trying to pare down what I want to take - we'll be there for 4 days, but it's chilly at night, so I need to take a heavy jacket. I always drive myself crazy when I have to fly - trying to plan everything. I keep hearing Chuck's voice in my ear "Don't forget any prescriptions - if you forget anything else, we can buy it there." :giggle4::giggle4:

My favorite gift? I'd have to say the Muk Luk slipper boots that Alyssa gave me. They're like walking on sponges. I love slippers and live in them and these are so cute and comfy. She loved my gift, too - I got her a huge, hooded blanket because she's always cold. It will be perfect for watching TV in the evening.

Chris, @faerywings I will be keeping Sam and her family in my heart. Sorry Cait tested positive for covid. What perfect timing. NOT. At least you didn't have to chase people out this year. How fun to get a hummingbird feeder with a camera and your BFF too. You'll enjoy that so much. I gave Chuck's feeders to Ava because I didn't have the heart to keep them, and she wanted them. He went out every day and fed those birds and talked to them.

Vicky @vickyday glad you're feeling better, but Mark isn't :( Hopefully, he'll get over his soon.

Hugs to ALL and XOXO

What???? Oh man, I've taken well over 100 photos between Tuesday and Wednesday and I kept it to a minimum.
Had one of those crazy nights when I woke up off and on several times. Finally gave up at 6 AM and got up. Had to wait for the coffee to be made before I stumbled in to get on the computer.... <sigh> The body is here but think the brain is still wanting to be back asleep in bed.
I'm sorry Kay, thats the worst. When youre tired and the body says nope, get up were done. Its miserable.

**wiping tears off face*** Oh Chris. This is so magical and special and oh man. You know Scott will be emotional when he wears it. What a special gift.
It didn't feel like Christmas to me without the family around and sickness reigning all around. Mark is congested this morning
Yes, its hard when you dont celebrate at the "right time" and sickness gets you. I hope you both recover and feel better soon. The sick germs sure do like your house this year.

Chris I have to laugh, best gift was a cleaver! So yep, I'm down to knives knives knives but mines is sharp enough to take body parts off :floorlaugh: Hubs said you asked for it but please be very careful not to take off a finger.:floorlaugh::floorlaugh::floorlaugh:

We only have one extra person in our house Christmas Day so it was pretty chill. Christmas Eve was a blast. We all had shirts with different sayings from Christmas Vacation and so much food. It was wonderful. Christmas Day, was great. We opened presents ate a big breakfast and then I sat on my couch and read a book. I need to read 3 more to finish 100 books in 2024. Well, down. to 2 1/2 now. I dont think I need to worry too much about reaching the goal. The books in the series are 265 pages, so about 700 pages or less to go. :giggle4: I didn't even shower or dress yesterday, just read my book and snacked. It was awesome.

Have a wonderful day!!!

Good afternoon ladies. Xmas Eve and morning were quiet and lovely. Jen and I were still feeling poorly and couldn't eat much so it wasn't the normal pig-out with all the appies and desserts, we both had a very light breakfast. We both felt much better by the afternoon and were looking forward to Xmas dinner with the pre-cooked smoked turkey. It was wrapped in foil when I picked it up and stored in the fridge overnight. On Xmas day I popped it into the oven, left the tinfoil cover over it and cooked at low temp to heat it up. After 2 hrs I pulled it out, took the foil off and discovered it wasn't cooked!!! They had given me a 20 lb uncooked smoked turkey. So everything went into the fridge for dinner tonight and the turkey went back into the oven to cook til properly done, took til about 9:30 past night. D carved the turkey and then we packaged it up for the fridge. We taste tested the crockpot sausage dressing and all agree that it is awesome. Will definitely always do that, so easy and tasty. We made sandwiches today with the smoked turkey and it is the best I've ever had. Can't wait to have dinner tonight with mashed potatoes/gravy, dressing and turkey.

We really enjoyed Carry On and Red One and Dear Santa was okay. Watched Elf (for the millionth time) before heading off to bed around 10.

I got out first thing this morning for boxing day shopping and found everything on my list - jean blazer, casual blazer, short cut shacket, long outdoor vest, comfy zip up fleecy jacket and wide leg sweat pants.

Tonight my car goes in for remote starter installation (overnight and we can pick it up in the morning).

I'm not quite recovered from being sick, still a bit tired. An afternoon nap sounds good.

I just re-read this thread... and it is obvious my brain was working at less than half!!! @faerywings I totally missed that Cait tested positive for Covid! So sorry. Sorry your dad is not feeling good either. The Covid numbers here are rising faster than the national average and they are encouraging people to mask up again no matter where you are going and some are doing so. Wonder if they will go back to glass shields again??? I wear a mask and think it is time for me to go back to carrying and using disinfectant gel.

@Cherylndesigns I was thinking about you yesterday and understand what a hard day it was for you. For some reason, this holiday season has been harder for me to get through, too. Don't think it will improve for me until after mid-January. I am not sure if I am up doing my "Year in Review" LO (usually do it New Year's Eve)... nor my Jan 8th Letter to Bill. Will see how I feel when those days arrive.

I did manage to get over to the bank, grocery store and took books back to the library (didn't find any books I wanted to read in the new books section and was worn out by then). Everywhere was crowded.. parking lots full and places packed with people. I need a nap.

I forgot to mention this.... I had heard that Bird Flu virus is hitting the chicken and egg places. At the grocery store today - there was only 5 cartons of eggs in the 10 feet of frigerated space that is usually full!!!

Kay @BrightEyes I guess every Christmas from now on is going to be difficult. Sorry you had an extra hard time this year. I worked on a layout last night after getting home from Adrienne's. I'd love to adopt your tradition of writing a letter to Chuck every year. Fortunately, I'll be gone over the New Year's and won't be home until the evening of January 1st, so maybe, when I do get home, it won't be so bad. I can write the letter before I go or after I get home. I was afraid to attempt it last night because I didn't want to start crying. I was thinking of you, too. It's never going to get easier. :(
