It's the WEEKEND! :dancingbfly:
Even better... the dishwasher is coming today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is 7 stops away. I love the Track Your Delivery feature from Home Depot. Can't wait. It hasn't been *terrible* having to wash the dishes by hand and everyone has chipped in but still. One week is plenty of that. *nods*

How was everyone's day? I had a pretty good one. I cleaned in here, then did a lot of deadheading and cutting back some of the flowers. The lilies of the valley were surprisingly long-lasting this year. Not the flowers, they are long gone, but usually by now the leaves are brown and withered. I *might* get a second bloom on the coneflowers. I hope so. I still haven't researched how and when to move my milkweed, that thing is still growing!

Sidenote: I just reread yesterday's post and I called my impatiens "inpatients." LOL! Although it was probably my spellcheck that fixed it. Either way, it's funny :p

No big plans today other than staring out the window for the delivery truck. I am gonna have to clean my nose prints off the glass along the dogs'. hehe I guess I should start off by running the laundry and packing for PA. I am totally going to overpack again. Always. It's going to be really cold at night but hot(ish) during the day. Plus I need yard work/painting clothes as well as a bathing suit if we hit the beach and something to wear if my parents take me out to dinner like they typically want to do.

Signing off...... xoxo

Good morning ladies. I'm up and working on my first challenge for September...the Heritage Challenge by our very own @BrightEyes. I so love her example and then Sylvia's work for this challenge is amazing as well. Yesterday went pretty much as planned so nothing exciting. We will head to Gainesville in about an hour. Yesterday was Syd's Gotcha Day. It's been 18 years. And celebrating at the Chinese Buffet sounds just right. I'm so glad that Shaun is willing to drive 90 minutes each way to celebrate with us. He was making sure last night that he didn't eat too much so that he could really enjoy the buffet.

This morning at the feeder we have had cardinals, titmice, wrens and something that I didn't recognize. Merlin tells me that it is a brown headed nuthatch...guess I need to go read about him in my bird book. I hear the bluebirds but I don't see them. I'm thinking about adding a bluebird house to the backyard this fall.

Ok...back to my layout. I'll be back later this afternoon with personals.

@LSlycord Have a wonderful day with the family today!!! And seriously how awesome is it that it's Syd's Gotcha Day!!!??? I saw your post and pic on FB and those cheeks on her, just love them! ♥ I am so dang happy for you all!
I am going to PA tomorrow and will be back on Tuesday (barring any strange health incidents like last time). Thanks for being proud of how I am handling Scott moving out. I am trying my best but it's easier seeing how happy he is. He commented to me this morning that tomorrow is the 2-year anniversary of Sam's brother's passing. He recalled that he said to Leah when they got the call how everything was going to change. And hoo boy it did. Some for the much, much worse for Sam and her family. Some for the better for the two of them.

@BrightEyes I'd say that your family has led some fascinating lives and how incredible it must be to read it in a book! That's really cool. I get a kick out of reading books that have settings with places I am familiar with so I cannot imagine how it feels to read something that you have real memories and real family connections to. I bet you were drooling over that family tree. LOL!

@taxed4ever Trudy's back!! dance3 It's so good to see you here! I can't wait to see your photos and hear about the things you did with the family. The house must be so quiet after they left. :(
When do the kids go back to school or did they already? My town heads back on Wed.
Happy birthday to your brother and here's to a long weekend :drinks2:

@bcgal00 Are the chukars the birds that look a little scraggly in the pictures you posted? I've never heard of them before. That's neat that you got to see them.
[OH! Good news, Scott saw a bear this morning!! They were walking from my neighbor's yard into the woods behind us.]
So a bedroom community is like the suburbs? I am guessing that Calgary as a city is pretty self-contained compared to the sprawling mess of city/suburbs we have in NJ. So once you are outside of the city proper, there isn't much there? Or am I off-base? Either way, it sounds like the best of both worlds, remote but close enough.

@Cherylndesigns So so soooo glad that Marley is holding her own. I hope that she continues to improve and they can figure out what is wrong.
Do your dogs get the Lyme vaccine? Mine do and they take the oral tick meds. It's $$ but worth it. Although there is a part of me that gets so aggravated that dogs can get the Lyme vax but humans can't. I'll be one of the first on line if it is ever available to people.

@vickyday If your hummers stay around through September, mine will probably be gone earlier. I'll stick with the impatiens then if they only have a few more weeks.
Isn't it the best that you married a handyman/mechanic? I love that Gary can do a lot of stuff around the house (whether he does it is a whole 'nother story Bwuahaha!).
Poor Carolyn, how long does she think she will be in the rehab center? That's sweet of you and Ilene to visit. She must miss having with you two. I hope that you will be able to get your friends together for a BBQ this weekend. Mark puts so much effort into the cabin it will be fun for him to see everyone enjoy it.

Yikes, I am running late!

HUGS!

Yes, I'm pretty sure our hummers stay through most of September, at least.
I hear you about getting the handy man to do stuff around the house! Mine would much rather be outside in the woods or at the saw mill than working on stuff in the house! So, I don't push it unless it just can't wait any longer or something breaks!
Carolyn is supposed to be in the rehab facility for a couple of weeks. The family mainly has her there to give their backs a break. They all had to visit the chiropractor for their backs after lifting her about for the last couple of weeks! I sure hope it does her some good! She did enjoy our visit yesterday and told us how much she has missed spending time with us. This facility allows visitors 24/7 and there is an empty bed in her room. Her son was napping on it yesterday while we were there.

Good Morning!
Another beautiful day here! The Weiner roast is set for 5 with our friends from church.
I'm sitting on a heating pad as we speak. Woke up with a terrible lower back ache this morning. I've had a low grade ache off and on for a couple of weeks. I think next week I am going to schedule a doc appt. Just to be safe. The only thing about sitting with a heating pad is it makes me hot even on the lowest setting! I'm going to have to leave it for a few minutes after I finish typing this.
Other than the cook out with friends tonight, I will have to go to the grocery store. Tomorrow is church and other than that I will probably do some more knitting on the baby blanket this weekend and maybe tackle some laundry tomorrow afternoon.
Have a great weekend!

Good morning. No news on Marley yet. They will let me know the minute they hear from the vet. Roger and Braden came down last night and Roger is really worried about her. He's perplexed that they haven't figured out what's wrong with her yet. We're all impatient, as you can understand.

Chris @faerywings I didn't know they had Lyme's Disease vax for animals, but that's the first thing I thought of when they said it could be a tick bite. They all have flea and tick collars on and we change them on schedule, plus they get the oral meds. We rub it on the cat, on the back of his neck, where it's hard for him to get to. I've never been a fan of putting a collar on an outdoor cat - even a break-away collar. I've always had a fear of them hanging themselves. We check him for ticks every morning and check Daisy too.

Have a good time (if you can) with your parents and let them take you out to eat.

Hugs to everybody and maybe I can get back in here - I'll definitely bring you any updates on Marley as soon as I get any. Thank you ALL for your love and doggie prayers for Marley.

Morning ladies... everyone is up and busy already this morning. That's the trouble with being on the West Coast, we seem to be so far behind with everything LOL. It's a lovely sunny day, but it is a bit smokey out there, hope that blows away soon! We have been so lucky this summer to not have very many smokey days, with all the fires to the east or North of us, so many have lost their homes, its so sad! We are off to the grocery store this morning and like all weekends we are busy with running errands. My Gary wants to get the swimming pool all put away, it has been taken down but is under the deck and waiting for us to clean the liner and dry it before storing for the winter. The kids and adults all had fun in the pool this year, it was so hot and dry for the whole month, so it was a good purchase! We will be going to my brothers this afternoon to celebrate his birthday and enjoy some good conversation and good food with friends and family. Other than that not much happening around here. I did manage to get the parcel in the mail to Heather, it weighed almost 20lbs, so it cost a fortune to mail, but oh well it will be good for her to get her things and lots of groceries were packed in the box too. Things that DH and I do not eat anymore and stuff that the kids like to have.

@faerywings - Sounds like you will be an empty nester soon, it will take some getting used to that's for sure! You are lucky that your kids will not be too far away from you though!! You are so lucky that way! As for the hummingbirds... ours stick around all year, at least the Anna's do, the Rufous only come for a few weeks in the spring/summer, but the Anna's stay for the winter. It's a pain to have to change out the feeder so often because of freezing, but the birds sure appreciate it! Hooray for the new dishwasher!!! Yup a week of hand washing dishes is a week too long! Had to laugh at your nose print on the window, waiting for the delivery truck. I still have windows with the kids hand prints on them and it makes me sad to have to clean them off. It's the last of the cleaning and I keep putting it off. :sad1:. Have a great time with your parents and enjoy going out for dinner too!!

@LSlycord - Hmmm not sure what the Gotcha Day is?? Sounds like you will have a great time with your family and enjoy the Chinese Buffet!! You are getting lots of birds coming to your feeder, how wonderful! Yes a bluebird house would be a great addition to your backyard!

@vickyday - Sure hope that the heating pad helps your back pain!! Perhaps you need to go to the chiropractor also along with the others?? Enjoy the Weiner roast today, hope the weather is great for it!

@Cherylndesigns - Anxiously waiting to hear how Marley is doing! Hoping for good news for everyone!

Ok I am off to get some brunch and get busy with the day, have a good one! I hope the sun is shining for all of you today! :bye2:

Oh, wow... been a busy morning already!! Forgot how busy it keeps me when I am hosting a challenge. Plus the start of a new month and new challenges that stir my creative juices. Haven't been able to scrap much for the past several months and the challenges make me want to dive straight in and do them all!!! I know better - but seems like the mind keeps churring away at what I would want to do for them...

I have been chatting on FB with the author of Cousin Bonnie's book this morning. She was delighted to hear from me and wants me to fill her in on our side of the Carman family. Thank goodness for the internet that allows family members to connect with each other. I need to take time to scan in a lot of the family photos and clean them up so they are clear. I really need to get them done ASAP and send them to the cousins. Cousin George is in the last stages of Cancer and I know he would love to have them. Just wished I could do more typing/editing.

@faerywings I can just see you with your nose pressed to the window waiting for the dishwasher to arrive!!! Good luck on getting ready for the PA trip with the folks.

@taxed4ever :bowdown2: Welcome back... you have been missed!!!

@vickyday so sorry your back has been giving you fits! Hope the heating pad helps some. The doctor told me to only use the heat for 20-30 minutes then stay off of it for about an hour.

Sorry... have a call coming in I have to take.

Good morning ladies. I was a lot throughout the night so ended up watch a movie, Manchester By The Sea, an older film, 2016, that I had never seen. It is a drama, very slow, about a grief stricken family trying to carry on. It had won awards but I knew it wasn't the kind of movie D would like. When I came across it around 3:00 a.m. on Netflix I figured that was a good one to watch, not needing my full attention, I could close my eyes and just listen. I ended up watching the whole thing and then fell asleep for a few hours. The stress about not selling the house yet and knowing we might be stuck here until spring/summer and having to maybe drop the price again is stressing me out. There's nothing I can do except go thru the process and hope it works out but I'm worried that if we don't sell now its going to be even harder in the spring. I have my fingers crossed for the open house tomorrow, that someone is interested.

Today I'll putter, tidying up, getting the house ready for tomorrow. I've got sugar free cheesecake pudding being delivered today so I'll make up a batch of pumpkin/cheesecake pudding for snacking. I'll get the dogs out to the dog park in a bit before it warms up.

@faerywings I know what you mean about the city being self contained. Yes, Calgary is like that. You have the rural area once you are out of city limits and then after a 25-40 min drive you get to one of the 5 small surrounding towns (Cochrane, Airdrie, Chestermere and Okotoks). Yes, you are handling S's moving out very well. You are talking about it, not keeping it internal and sharing your thoughts, which all helps to cope with the upcoming change. Becoming an empty nester is a big life change. I grew to love having the house kid-free but then Jen came home and I loved having her back so I guess either way it's an adjustment but it's all good if you maintain a close relationship.

@vickyday Hope the back gets better. Heat and rest is good, I know. I'm often in the same boat.

@Cherylndesigns I am so sad about Marley. I really hope there is good news soon.

@taxed4ever Enjoy your busy wkend.

I'm getting coffee and hopping in the shower soon. It seems weird to have just woken up not too long ago and it is 10 a.m. already. I can't remember the last time I slept past 9.

Gotta go, HAGD everyone.

@Cherylndesigns I love that Braden is home. I'm sure that is helping everyone's spirits with Marley being sick. I'm guessing that the fact that we haven't heard anything from you is that no news is good news.

@vickyday I hope that the wiener roast was fun. It sounds like fun to me...some of my favorite memories are of bonfires with hot dogs and s'mores. I'm also so sorry to hear how bad Carolyn is doing. I'm sure she was thrilled with having the time with the two of you.

@taxed4ever I'm so happy to see you back here. "Gotcha Day" is the anniversary of the day that they put Sydney in our arms the first time. It sounds like August was a fabulous time filled with new memories with your kids and grandkids.

@bcgal00 I'm so sorry that you are having sleepless nights over the house. I understand...that's how I felt a year ago. We are in a totally different place this time this year...I am hoping for the same for you!

@BrightEyes love your challenge this month. So glad that you are back to running a challenge.

No, we don't know anything yet, Linda. She's still very sick and on IV. They called today, but still don't know anything. Marley's hanging in there and it's SO good to have Braden home for the long weekend. He's popped in a few times today. Our holiday weekend isn't going to be much fun, from the sound of things. Ava's bd is Monday and we had two days of fun planned. I'm sure we'll still get together, but there a pall hanging over the compound. :(

Hey everyone! It is Sunday, correct? The last couple of days I have been pretty disoriented, more than usual. Gary never has any idea of the day but even Caitlyn was complaining about it yesterday. It doesn't help that I am heading to PA on a *Sunday* -- I can't think of any time I did that before.
The dishwasher is here and installed, took Gary most of the afternoon to make sure it was just right. That was extremely exciting. :)
The weather changed in PA to pretty hot during the day (close to 90*) and 60s overnight. I am not sure what my parents will be able to do. Hopefully, the humidity won't be awful for them. And yup, I overpacked- I have clothes for every possibility other than a blizzard :rotfl:
I am stressing for Scott- he lost his wallet and retraced all of his steps-- all over the county- and still can't find it. That is going to be such a PITB. Some of the stuff he might be able to download, like his health insurance card, but his Driver's License is the worst to lose.:eek2:

Not much else happening since my parents will be here in a few hours. Behave while I am away!
Love and hugs xoxo

Cheryl- I am going to try to check in on my phone to see how Marley is doing. Big hugs to you all :hug3:

@LSlycord I hope that you had the best day with the family. Enjoy the birds too. I am bringing my binoculars and hope to have some time to see some birds there.

@vickyday I read an article that you should leave your feeders up at least 2 weeks after the last hummingbird sighting. It will help any birds as they migrate to get some nourishment on their way.
Sending good thoughts to Carolyn and her family. I am sure you have a nice time at the Weiner Roast. Hope that your back is better today too.

@Cherylndesigns The fact that Marley is still fighting is a good sign. It has to be. I am glad that your family is together and supportive.

@taxed4ever I hope you and your Gary got some time to enjoy the weather and maybe a glass of wine on your deck at the end of the day. You are such a good mom and I know Heather -- and the boys-- will be thrilled to have the box of food.
I don't know if you heard the update on Cait's house? That deal fell through which was really too bad. The house was adorable but the other lawyer was
Keep the handprints as long as you can stand the grimy window. It will be nice to see it and remember the fun you all had. (at least in my warped view. I refused to vacuum one section of my rug for weeks because there was one of Merlin's grey whiskers on the floor.)

@BrightEyes You always have so much mojo running, I don't know how you do it. I miss the days when I could scrap a LO in one sitting. It takes me forever to do just 1. Pace yourself though, OK? :)
What a fantastic project that you are working on with Bonnie and the Carmens.

@bcgal00 I am so sorry that you are having such a tough time with the housing and medical stuff. Of course, you are stressed. It's been a really hard few years for you and the family. Sending you lots of good thoughts and strength :sparkles1:
It's great (not the best word but YKWIM?) that you are recognizing the process and are working through it. Good luck with the Open House today!!
Thanks for the support for me coming to terms with Scott leaving. I mean, it has to be at some point LOL. At least I know he will be happy.

I am torn between getting in the shower and enjoying the peace and quiet here. It's gonna be another three days before I get that again. Please send my parents No Bickering Vibes! :floorlaugh:

Good morning ladies! It's nice out this morning...83 degrees and heading to 86. Of course the humidity makes it feel like 93 already. The ceiling fan and the lanai keeps it fairly good in here. It was nice to see Syd yesterday...fun to have the kids both with us for lunch...I think that those occasions are going to be fewer and fewer. It made me a little bit sad as we left. Then I came home and took a two hour nap which was nice. Except as I was waking up I thought that I haven't called Mom today...I need to call her. Mom has been gone 12 years.

Big news though! When we moved, I somehow lost my mouse. I had two extra mice but the usb that was in my laptop didn't work with either mouse. I kept thinking that I would find it. But Friday, I decided that 3 months was long enough to wait...and I had Amazon deliver one to my door last night. So I'm not using the mouse that is on the laptop anymore! WooHoo!

@Cherylndesigns I am still sitting here thinking all good thoughts about Marley. It definitely will put a pall over the weekend. Glad that you all have each other. Hope maybe some pool time for the weekend.

@faerywings I hope that PA is fun and that your parents do not bicker. I know...hoping for a lot. And I sure hope that Scott can find his wallet...that someone finds it and gets in touch with him. That will be such a PITB to go get things replaced.

I'll be around later today. Going to get another challenge done for the month and use some of these goodies. Hope everyone has a good day.

What a beautiful morning... blue skies and white clouds with a light breeze blowing. Yes, the house is open - but only for a short while. Temps going back up into the mid-90's this afternoon. I am up and dressed - in shorts and a tee - but plan on staying inside today. I did get a bunch of photos scanned in the computer. The challenge will be to date them and where/what/who. Had to LOL as one photo I could date was due to an outfit I had made in Corpus Christi and figured out it was at a cousin's 50th anniversary. I really need to mark the info on the back of the photos.

Yes, it does feel good to be hosting a challenge again. So glad I was able to tell another family story in that LO for the challenge. Karen Schultz really got me started on family memories with her "My Story" collections. And I see several other designers are also doing some similar type of collections. Just dawned on me that I should be printing out the LOs and putting them into a Family Album like I did for Bill's LOs.

@faerywings So glad the dishwasher has arrived and all is good. Had to :floorlaugh: over Gary making sure it was good!! So sorry to hear that Scott lost his wallet somewhere. What a PITA to replace all that was lost.

@LSlycord Sorry you lost your 'good' mouse during the move. Yes, 3 months is long enough so glad you got a new one. Glad you got to have a good all the family visit with Syd. Yes, as the kids grow up and move on your house becomes a place they 'visit'. It is sad in a way but happy that you raised them to be strong so they can do it.

@Cherylndesigns Been sending healing thoughts for Marley.

@taxed4ever So glad that your 'month off' did you lots of good. But so glad to see you back chatting with us again.

Time to get busy - need to do some cleaning: :sweeping2::vacuuming::takingouttrash: And I might even get out some fall decorations.

Good morning girls. Still nothing to report on Marley. Alyssa and her gf and on their way to Tulsa right now and hopefully, we'll get an update. Adrienne and Roger are planning to go tonight. They still don't know what's wrong with her, but Chris @faerywings they're running a seven day tick panel now (why now???? Why didn't they do that in the first place???) Thank you for the info on that and the Lyme's vax for animals. Man, how I wish for Gary's sake they had that for humans. We're all going to look into that because we worry constantly about ticks. We've picked some off our pets even though they have flea/tick collars on and get oral meds.

The other possibility is that there's a rare disease that dogs only get in Oklahoma (a vetinarian friend in Florida, dug up that in his research) so they're checking her for that. I had a St. Francis of Assisi medal overnighted.

Thank you ALL for your Doggie Prayers and good wishes for Marley. I keep saying this, but maybe today we'll find something out.

XOXO

Good Afternoon everyone! DH and I have been bottling a red wine :wine4: this morning and listening to some oldies. It is a cloudy cooler day, so a good day to get the house cleaning :housekeeping:and laundry done. :laundry:. I have been having some trouble with my right arm, it keeps falling asleep on me, mostly at night while I sleep, but it also happens during the day. I really notice it when I am on the computer also and perhaps I have carpal tunnel or something or a pinched nerve? I need to make an appointment with my doctor and maybe go get some massage therapy and a more ergonomic mouse to use. Right now I use a track pad on my iMac, but it seems to be bothering me when I type also. :sad2:. Not sure if I will get much scrapping done if this continues to bother me, but I'm gonna try!! Anyway not much happening around here today and I am feeling pretty lazy LOL. Still adjusting to life being much more quiet around here I guess. We did have a very enjoyable time with my brother and his wife for his birthday. I even got in the river for a swim, so nice, it was pretty warm outside, so it was very refreshing!

@faerywings - So sorry to hear that the deal on the house fell through for Cait!! That really sucks! Hopefully something else will come up soon! Yes the handprints are still on the window, but maybe today they will get cleaned up. I will see how I feel when I go to clean the windows. I hope your parents behave during your visit and that you have lovely weather! Hooray on the dishwasher being installed!! It's the little things right?!! Sure hope Scott locates his wallet!!

@LSlycord - Wow warm and humid for you! Love that you woke up thinking you needed to call your Mom. I bet she came and had a little visit with you while you were sleeping. Have fun using all of your goodies for the challenges!

@BrightEyes - So nice to hear that you are enjoying hosting a challenge again! You had a long absence from it! We are all happy you are back at it again! Love that taking out the garbage emoji!!

@Cherylndesigns- Sorry that you have had no further info about Marley! Still hoping for good news for all of you!

@bcgal00 - Sure hope your open house went well! It must be so stressful for all of you! But then again it must be so stressful to think that you might be facing wild fires where you are every summer on top of not having good health care! Sending you good vibes that your house sells quickly!

Ok off to clean the bathrooms ( I hate that job). Have a great day everyone!

Yes, it is bittersweet.....you want them to grow and become independent.....but it is a downer that they don't need you like they used to! BUT, they will ALWAYS need you! And being a close-knit family always is a plus!

Sounds like it could be carpal tunnel acting up! Hopefully the doctor will be able to figure it out for you and help you!

Good Afternoon!
We had a great time with our friends last night. It was great to be visiting and eating at the fire pits again! They stayed about 4 1/2 hours. Long enough for us to get to see Starlink as it passed over us last night.

The baby blanket is coming along. Here's my progress as of today:

I still have quite a ways to go. But I still have plenty of time.

I think I will try to get another challenge done today and more knitting. Mark is off tomorrow for Labor Day. He's not feeling great today so I'm glad he has an extra day to rest.

Have a great afternoon!

Well, my "got up and go" just got up and went" and the body is rebelling now!

Trudy... glad you liked the carry out the trash smiley. When I walked into the kitchen this morning there was an odor in the air. It was also in the hallway just off the kitchen and near the laundry room. So I gathered up all the trash and hauled it out to the trash bin then sprayed an air freshener all around those areas. Decided to change decorations in the living room, dining room and on kitchen/family room half-wall. Dusting, cleaning, put some of the decorations away. Hung the fall wreath on the inside of the front door and changed the dining table centerpiece... plus several other decorations. Ran out of steam before I could get the vacuuming done and entry and kitchen floor mopped. Decided to fix a sandwich but when I walked into the pantry the foul odor was in there!!! YIKES!! :banghead: Turned out to be a bad white potato in a bin. Dumped it into a plastic bag and set the bin soaking with cleanser. Looked in another bin with a full bag of potatoes and discovered several more potatoes going soft and mushy!!! Got them all into the plastic bag and walked them out to the trash bin. Then re-sprayed odor freshener.

So I am going to sit down in the recliner with the fan blowing on me and rest :fan: No more work today and might not be up to doing any tomorrow.
