HellllllO O-zies! Happy weekend to everyone.

It is cold, cold, cold, just 55* here right now. It isn't supposed to get over the upper 60*s today.
I thought yesterday was going to be warmer and I wore shorts to my mom's. I was shivering so much she brought out her bathrobe for me to wear.
It was so good yet so strange to be at her house. It was the first time I had been there since all of this had started and the farthest I had been from my home too. It felt semi-normal. She made us breakfast, bagels and eggs but we ate outside. My brother popped in for a couple of minutes. I hadb't seen him since Feb. But it felt weird not walking in and giving everyone hugs and kisses. My family is very huggy.

I had a wonderful time chatting with Scott. I missed having one-on-one time with him. He makes me laugh so much, we had some silly convos and some serious ones but through it all, my heart just bursts with how much I love him.

Looks like everything will be on for the get together tomorrow. Today I am going to work in the backyard and Gary and I will set the gazebo up. I am making deviled eggs so cooking the eggs will be on my to-do list too. Other than that, it should be quiet day. I read an article on how the pandemic and the rest of the chaos in the US are affecting people's mental health and one of the biggest recommendations is to maintain a routine as it lessens anxiety. That is going to be a big thing that I am going to work on. I need to work in some exercise and hobbies/relaxation every day too.

I am open to any suggestions that you have too.

Gratitudes:
-my mom and dad looked good and they didn't bicker ;)
-seeing my brother
-the relatationships my kids have with all of the g-parents

hugs!!!

Jean- you would never guess that Scott was 24 based on his antics, would you? :D
Enjoy all of your meetings and may the techno-gods be ever in your favor! hahaha!!!!! Do you have football to watch tomorrow? I hope that you are able to relax all day.
Any progress on your DH's sisters DNA question?

Miss all of you! Hope you are hanging in!

The wildfires burning in Oregon, California and Washington State (just 265 miles away) is sending smoke our way. The air quality here is under advisory. I cannot see across the river it is so thick. That makes dog walking for me a bit iffy as I have a condition that makes it difficult. The weather forecast indicates no rain until next week which will clear the air to some extent.

I cannot imagine what it must be like for those unfortunate souls who have evacuated and lost their homes. Entire communities have been wiped out and tens of thousands have had to flee with 500 000 on notice to evacuate.
Trudy, are you getting the smoke on the island?

Chris, nothing relaxes better than a good book to get the mind immersed in something other than reality. My hubby often takes a long relaxing bath when his anxiety rears its head.

Good day - sorry i have been so absent - I got caught up in a Roswell TV and the book series. I did not even go outside today. Shameful. But darn it was chilly only 58 when I got up. Though it was nice sleeping. I am enjoying my sports the TdF and hockey. I am finding so many new songs based on the Roswell TV show. Kay the show says its filmed in Sante Fe and Albuquerque. I think I would find where they are shooting just to watch one day. Not much else going on.

Chris yes it was sad yesterday thinking it has been 19 years. I feel like it just happened yesterday. Glad you had a nice visit with your parents and that Scott would mow their lawn. My DH is still happy to do ours. Hope today went well. No rain just needed to dress warmly. I guess it is fall. My DH says room are not yet set up for online teaching so he is using my iPAD. Students are showing up and wearing masks. Hope all is going well for Cait.

Jean glad the online genealogy is going well. Laughing about your DH doing his lawn. Glad he is getting his exercise. I heard geese this morning. I guess fall really is coming. Glad you are still getting birds at your feeder.

Cheryl that is terrible you are getting smoke. And it is scary to see the photos from the Bay area of California. Hope you can walk your dog safely.

Waving to all

C'mon sunshine, we need you! It is very cloudy ATM but it isn't supposed to rain. *fingers crossed for a little bit of blue sky*
Did everyone have a nice day yesterday? I did. I was able to get all of the eggs ready for this afternoon and I played with the dogs and rats. There wasn't too much yard work that needed to get done in the back but I "tidied" it up a bit. I figure I didn't have to scrub and dust and mop inside so did a bit of that outside ;)
Today I will have to set up the chairs and table for the food. I asked the family to bring a simple snack or dessert but I have a feeling that everyone will bring more than one thing. Oh, and drinks I need to put some water/cans of soda in the fridge too.

I figured out one of the things I am going to do to maintain a routine. Caitlyn was telling me how she knows that this semester is going to be different and difficult for her. She thrives on the class discussions and can feel it being different and has less of a "flow" to it. She asked if I would help her - maybe do some of the readings and have some discussions together. One of her required readings is the New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander which is one that I had wanted to read for along time. I was able to get the e-book from my library and started that last night. I also signed up for an online self-paced course, a sociology course on racial constructs and social inequalities. It is similar to one that she is taking, based on the synopsis. I might not understand it all on my own but will give me a foundation for our discussions. I am actually pretty excited to do this.
She told Scott about it all and he said that it gave him chills that I was willing to do this for her. Duh! Of course I would, I would do the same for him too. Maybe I can get him to take me on a hike soon. before it gets too cold for me.

Other than the get-together (I don't want to call it a party, that makes it seem more official which makes me anxious), I need to start my food shopping and then I need to start my coursework. I can't let Caitlyn get too far ahead haha!!!

Gratitudes:
-being able to do stuff for my kids and that know they appreciate it
-not losing my s*** when I was cooking dinner last night. I had fried up a ton of onions for perogies but then I could only find one bag in the freezer. I was quick on my feet, only cursed a couple of times, and boiled up some pasta to make onion and garlic pasta.
-seeing my family today!!!!

hugs to all of you!

Kythe- I am sorry that the fires are affecting you too. I saw Trudy posted a photo on FB of the air all smoky. I am hoping that you get some rain soon to clear it up. The photos coming out from the west coast are truly dystopian. It is the only word I can think of to describe it and I am heartbroken for the people who have to leave their homes- at the same time as dealing with a pandemic. :(
I used to love to take baths but I haven't very often since we moved here. Our hot water is heated from the oil burner and it runs out quickly. But I do like to read! I need to givemyself permission to put my feet up and do that more. I always stuck in the mindset that I have to be busy 24/7.
Give Joey some belly rubs!

Nancy- it is really cold! The dogs now have to be snuggled under the blankets with us at night. I am happy that you are enjoying the TV show and books so much!
19 years - it still feels like yesterday in some ways.Tonight it my parents' town's memorial service and this year will be the first that my dad doesn't go.
I hope that DH's classes continue to go well!

Better get some breakfast and start my day. xoxo

Wow... what a PITA... Windows 10 updated on my computer this AM. Took almost 2 and half hours for that get downloaded and installed... then 4 minutes for the initial login to work/open the computer. Then took 4 tries to get on-line and now I am having to re-enter all my passwords to the forum, etc!!! GRRRRR!! Hope it didn't affect any of my scraping software like it did the last time it did an update.

The only good things was I did get my laundry sorted and a couple of loads in. Also had breakfast and did a bit of cleaning while I was waiting for it to be installed.

Yesterday afternoon, both DD#1 and DD#3 came over for a visit. It was nice to catch up on the news of what is going on with their families. I had the house opened up but had to close it due to all the smoke in air - it was causing our allergies to act up. Thank goodness a cool front pushed in last night and the smoke haze is gone! My heart goes out to all who are dealing with the fires and smoke in the west.

Finally managed to get an appointment with the MVD to renew my drivers licence. Been trying to get one for a week and finally was able to catch it when they opened up a new day... it is for Nov 9th and my handicap placards expire on Nov 17th!!! The licence expire on Dec 3. The MVD nearby is closed so had to make it for one a few miles away. It is a new office so I need to drive pass to make sure I know where it is.

I remembered this morning as I was filling my week pill box that I needed to request a refill on the BP meds. Made the call to the automated refill system and will be ready for pickup on Wed.

Thinking of all of you and hope you have a good week.

Yesterday morning's program hopping sounded crazy but it came off pretty easily I think. The virtual conference went really well and there is so much still to do with it and four later dates for live Q&A. They really worked to make as much as possible of the in-person experience still part of the process. I'm really glad I did it but have soooo many recorded lectures to see. Today I've got it easy for dinner with a nice fall-sounding pot roast in the crockpot. It's the first Sunday of football all day though it isn't starting too well for the Browns, but we can still hope.

Chris, your book and class to coordinate with Cait is going to be a wonderful time for both of you. Having a fellow student is probably just what she needs and it will be something positive for you too (at least in part - subject matter maybe less so at times). I'm surprised Scott thought it was anything out of the ordinary for you to undertake. Maybe he should read the book and join the discussion. And getting him to take you out on a hike sounds good too. I still think he needs to have some kind of personal nature project to do. So, lots more to think about than cleaning and groceries. The get-together will be super just because you'll all get together! Was nice to hear your parents were looking good and not bickering when you were there.

Kythe, hope you are OK with the poor air quality outside. Sure hope you get some weather to keep the smoke down and everywhere to help putting out those fires.

Nancy, how nice to get so into the TV show and books. And lots of sports too. Right now there are lots of different ones happening. Good luck to your DH with the online classes. The room setup is so critical and good IT.

Kay, wow, that Windows update sounds weird. I didn't think it should take that long nor take out so many of your settings. Nice having two DD visit. Hope you get all the errands done easily and the air clears.

Wishing all a good week.

good day - the TdF was awesome this morning. It seems strange but this is one of the best races I have seen. There are 3 races with in the Tour and each of them is affecting the other two each day. Usually that does not happen and so each day is fun and something new happens. The hockey game is on this afternoon so I have not watched football yet but there will be one on tonight. Got in a good walk between the TdF and hockey. It is nice sleeping with the temps in the upper 50s and with the windows open. So grateful that we have not had any smoke. But so so sad to see the complete devastation. Talked to my sister and she got a new kitten, a 5 month old male, she named mittens. She had lost her two cats this year and found she really did not like coming home to an empty home. She says he is a snuggler and a purrer. So happy for her.

Chris hope today goes well. Thought is was yesterday sorry. I think you and Cait will have fun talking about the reading and having great discussions. A hike with Scott will be awesome. A nice fall day with leaves falling. Gorgeous photo opt.

Kay how nice to have two daughters visit. Sorry though that the smoke got so bad! I like that my prescriptions are for 90 days. Makes having to make that call less often.

Jean so glad the classes online worked and now you have more to listen to in your own time. Hope the Browns come back for you. They have been losing for too long! Your dinner sounds yummy!

Question:
What do you consider to be ephemera? I am not sure what the difference is between ephemera and elements. The dictionary says it is 'something short lived' like an insect. Is that how it is seen in the digi world?
