It is a somber day here in the US. It's hard to believe that it has been 20 years. I haven't been in NYC in a few years but it still seems weird to not see the Towers as part of the skyline. The weather here seems a lot like it was that morning, that clear blue sky.

How was your day yesterday? I was able to get myself all unpacked, laundry all done and put away. I got lots of hugs from Caitlyn, I missed her too. The good news is that the swelling in Livvie's eye is going down a lot. The way it looked the day I left I swore it was going to rupture. [queasy face] My mom called to thank me for a nice time together and to let me know that she was absolutely fine health-wise. I was a little concerned on Wed. We did a *lot* for two old ladies. We went out for b-fast, then the pool, then the beach, then a fancy dinner. She climbed into bed around 9. I woke up a few hours later to go to the bathroom and it looked like she hadn't moved an inch. I tiptoe over to her and am leaning really close to her face to see if she is ok. I must have woken her cuz she sits up and yells, I'm awake! hahahaha!!!
oops

I need to do some yard work today and some housework. I think Monday if the weather is ok I will steam clean. Or maybe I will flip-flop today and Monday. Wake/funeral service/repast is tomorrow and I know it is going to be utter hell. We were watching a TV show last night where a car flipped over. That about gave me a panic attack which made my mind go in directions I wished it hadn't.

On a happy note, the sun is shining. *will not complain how cold it is, will not complain how cold it is, will not...*

Wishing all of you a fun and wonderful weekend!

@tanteva How are you feeling today? sending you some veggie soup and tea, unless you would prefer more chocolate instead. That is a very silly question ;)
I think we are one of the few people that never watched Dowton Abbey and no desire to either. What do you think so far?

Thanks for the good thoughts, Kay. I am not looking forward to tomorrow. I cannot imagine how Sam and her family are feeling and I hope to god, I never do.
Look at your bookcases - they look great! I recognized the Star Wars cases right off the bat. Are the green/red/blue ones Lord of the Rings? They look familiar. Good thing you listened to me about not hurting yourself. (Good to know someone does bwuahaha!!)
Oh no, is SIL#3 any better, he must have really taken a bad spill. Hope he is out of the hospital by the time you read this. hugs coming to you and the fam!

@taxed4ever How does your hair look? Amazing, I'd put money on that!
That is one reason why Gary is dreading that the dishwasher will need to get replaced/repaired-- the pipes down to the basement are covered up and will be impossible to get to easily. The neighbors you asked for help aren't the ones with the irrigation leak, are they? Glad that you had someone to help. Hot water is a necessity. Ask Eva! :D

@Cherylndesigns Thanks so much for the good thoughts- It is a very "heavy" weekend. :(
I didn't know that ferns could be annuals too- I guess they are so plentiful with the woods here it wouldn't occur to me otherwise. It is good to know new things every day.
Is Chuck ok after his fall? My goodness, we need to get you all in some bubblewrap suits.
I feel you with the long hair dilemma. That is the only thing I don't like about the shore is that my hair is even frizzier than normal with the salty breeze. It can be an ordeal to wash mine too once it gets all tangled. Hope that the game was a lot of fun!

@tanteva thanks for letting me know about Nancy's activity here. Whew!
I got all body parts crossed for you, the trip will be wonderful!!!!

Tried to watch the ceremony from NY on TV, but I got so annoyed by the people in the studio that just couldn't shut the F up. Why even bother to broadcast the ceremony if you are going to talk all the time??? Those of us who bother to turn on the TV probably do so to actually watch the ceremony, not to listen to journalists talking about what we are seeing. I just had had enough when she told us that we had just seen Bruce Springsteen. Seriously?! Those who doesn't recognize the man, the guitar and the voice, probably haven't heard the name either. So, I turned of the TV. I wanted to watch and take a moment to remember, not to get annoyed.

It's a bit weird that they are broadcasting this on Swedish television, but I guess that's a testimony to just how much 9/11 effected the whole world. At least the rest of us - just not that b**ch on TV LOL

I feel better today, but I guess I'm not 100%, cuz I seem a bit grumpy.

Crawling back under my rock, will return when I'm back to my happy-go-lucky self.

Hi all. Sad day here all around. Chris @faerywings it's going to get even worse for you. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts.

Eva @tanteva that's the "mouthy media" - the talking heads. I don't know what network you're watching, but I watch Fox. It's on all day and is so sad. I just can't believe it's been 20 years.

LOL Chris @faerywings we all need bubble wrap suits. Great idea. He's much better, mostly just sore. That's interesting about the ferns, isn't it? I told Chuck that maybe we should try getting these in the ground and see what happens.

I'm going to get off here and again, Chris, thinking of you, your family and your friends and their families. How terribly, terribly tragic. :(

Hello, girls! I'm back (or at least I hope so)! Today was the last of our summer weekend adventures and In just a month it's happened more than in the whole previous year!!! We was on the beach, on the one century little steam railway trace celebration (I'm not sure did I translate this correctly), on Harry Potter merch sale and the big book sale yesterday.
I wasn't able to find the book I was looking for, but got really good deal on other book from my distant future list. My sister choose few books, but my shelf with unread books is so crowded that I don't see reason to hoarder more. I really want to get back to reading, because it's not cool at all to be that chick who is finished just one book per year! No ma'am.

What do you do to inspire yourself reading?
But please don't say Goodreads or Storygraph, both site frustrated me a lot, as it looks like people there are more what I call 'sports reader': a person which goal is to count titles, but don't make any quality analyze on what is read. This isn't my cup of tea.

I'm so sorry that I'm not read what happens with you till I was away and will have to catch it up into the next days! My apologies!
I saw Trudy's post about your time with the kids, sooo sweet! And Nancy @nancyr how is Shadow? I saw a post when he was lost weight and you was worried. I hope everything is all right and the summer hot was the problem!

Chris I'm so happy to read that you was pleasant on your vacation with your mom!!! At least at daytime :p, so you.

Eva, are you feeling better now?

I'm sorry, I don't want to sound disrespectful to US pain, of course the whole world pray for their souls, never forget!

@Cherylndesigns I was watching our national tv. I don't have any other channels than those who are free and Netflix.

@felis I get inspired to read at work. Working at a library is great! But, it is hard to take time to read. I think tv, computers and internet has in a way "destroyed" our brains. The brain gets used to quick/fast stimula, and gets stressed when we try to do "slow" things. I believe we need to decide what we want to do and then really make ourselves do it. It takes practise to change habits.

hi there, dear Ooos! [group hug smilie]
How is your weekend going so far? I hope it is fabulous and that you will have time today to relax a bit. Trudy's Gary- I am talkin' to you LOL

I was busy yesterday, I decided to steam clean instead and the yard work will be done on Monday. The Sept Bash is in two weeks and I haven't thought much about it other than OMG- it is coming up fast. At least the carpets look good. Until one of the dogs decides to throw up on it.
I am going to sign off here and get in the shower.

dreading today

Not so much for me, but I know it is going to be horrible for my kids and their friends. I can't take their pain away. How I wish I could.

The sun is shining and I am grateful for that

@tanteva I hate watching the news on TV. I prefer to read online. TV anchors. Blech. They allllll talk way too much about totally inane things
Crawling back under my rock, will return when I'm back to my happy-go-lucky self.
OK, I'll wait........

still waiting.................

:D

@Cherylndesigns thanks for your good thoughts. Glad that Chuck is doing ok.

@felis Hi!! So happy that your summer ended on such a fantastic note.
I use Goodreads but mostly only to keep track of the books I want to read. I would pull that up when I would browse through the library.

So true.

Have been working in the office - an hour or so at a time - and resting the back in between. And, yes - Chris, I can hear your Mama Voice telling me not to do some things. :D You have been the angel on my shoulder as I work. On Friday, I cleaned off and sorted through stuff in and on a rolling wooden end table/box between the computer desk and hide-a-bed, Decided it had to go as it took up too much space and meant that the hide-a-bed was pushed down too close the other door into the hall. Only had about a foot to squeeze between it and the corner of the closet to get to that door. Yesterday afternoon, I called my helpful neighbor and he came over and pushed the hide-a-bed 2' closer to the desk and then moved that wooden box out to the garage for me. When DD#1 and hubby come, I will have him load it into my SUV so I can take to a donation center.
The before photo shows the wooden end-table with shredder in front of it and before I finished sorting stuff out.

This is the after photo once I finished.

After I cleaned the desk and moved the monitors around.

Think I have changed my mind about getting rid of the corner desk. I figured out there is enough space to put 'my' monitor and computer on/under the desk along with DH's computer/monitor. Since the shifting of desks is not going to happen in the foreseeable future, this will be a way to go ahead and move into the office. I can always change my mind later on. ;)
Glad to see this project coming to an end.

I called the local library and they were delighted to have DH's golf books to add to their inventory. So glad that they will be available for other golfers to check out. It was a bittersweet moment when I dropped them off Saturday morning.

#3 Son-in-law out of the hospital but has an appointment on Monday to get scheduled for back surgery. He fractured another vertebra in this last fall - has had several fractured in earlier falls. The doctor wanted him to go to a nursing/rehab center but all the beds there are full due to needing hospital beds for the upsurge in Covid-Delta patients. They put him on a waiting list for it and hoping there will be a bed soon. DD#3 has her hands full with trying to work full time but take care of him, too. Both adult sons live with them but are both working full-time, too.

Yes, Chris... the green, red, and blue DVDs are the Fellowship of the Ring series. Sharp eyes you have. I know that today will be a sad and hard day for your kids - and for you as you help them through this time.

Cheryl, glad that Chuck is doing okay after his fall. Didn't realize that some ferns are annuals. The ones Mother and I had must have been perennials, Are you suffering with the heat like we are??? Getting into the high 90's all next week! Will be glad to see some cooler fall weather get here.

Eva, I don't watch much TV... usually just catch the local news/weather. That leaves lots of time for reading books. Yes, I am an old-fashion reader - want a paper book in hand. Though have found myself falling asleep when reading lately. LOL

Today is going to be a "do nothing" day... think I deserve it after the busy week I have put in. CYL

I'm sure your husband love the idea that people who love golf get to enjoy his books. I'm sure he's nodding his approval on the other side. Unless he's busy playing golf, that is. :)

Hi everyone! I've been busy, not chitchatting online as much these days, more focused on home life, my CT duties and work duties and spending time with family and dogs. I may not be around much but I do think of you all. I saw Trudy's GSO...that is awesome!

I'm heading out for a 2 hr hike with the dogs soon and then over to a dog park. Hope you are enjoying your wkend. BFN

OMG, Chris, this is so sad! Sincere condolence! I was seeing Leah to talk some sad things on IG, but this is really really shocking and sad! Another reminder that life will not wait for anybody, and we shouldn't waste time.

Eva , I know exactly for what you are talking about the TV/YouTube watching -behaviors that trigger dopamine addiction. Ironically these dopamine detox videos are very popular.
I'm always told that librarian is dream profession! But then when you have almost unlimited choice of books, aren't this makes you feels overwhelmed?

Kay, the new arrangement looks very light and bright. Great job done!

Rae, I hope you mean that you are focused on good stuff at your home life!

Hello my lovelies.

Chris, I don't know what to say except I'm thinking about all of you.

Kay @BrightEyes your office looks fantastic! What a difference - you must feel so happy about everything you got accomplished. Yes, it's been close to 90 during the days, but is getting cooler in the evenings. So glad your SIL is out of the hospital. Chuck is doing well.

I hate to tell you all, but I fell 2 nights ago - missed my desk chair - fell under my desk on the wood floor. It was about midnight so I had to fend for myself. WHAT'S UP WITH EVERYBODY FALLING???? Anyway, I've babied my right arm ever since so today Adrienne insisted on taking me to urgent care. My clavicle is broken! The dr said I must be one tough cookie to have lived with the pain for 3 days. I told her yes and that I was stubborn, too. I have to call the only ortho in town tomorrow and we'll go from there. I'm in a restraint halter thing which actually helped the pain tremendously and she put my arm in a sling. It's my right arm. I'm hoping they won't have to cast it.

The hits just keep on coming, don't they??? Hugs to all. I need to go rest my shoulder.

@felis Well, I do borrow lots of books. Almost everytime I work I tend to have 1 or 2 books with me home. But Urban, who as worked at the library for years, got a whole new view on books. As he has to go through the books at the library all the time, to see which to keep & which to sell, he's so used to it, he's lost all his sentimental view on books. We have both been book hoardera, but now he's talking about how we should get rid of some of our books. I'm not there yet LOL

@Cherylndesigns Oh no! Sending healing thoughts. Hope you feel better and that you will get to meet the ortho ASAP
